I would be interested to know if it would fair as well in the rinse cycle if you ran the load with detergent in the wash as many detergents supposedly neutralize the sanitizing properties of the Lysol, and their would likely be a fair bit of detergent left in the load when the rinse cycle runs

Ugh, I hear you. My cousin is going through the same thing. He said enough already! This is enough to have him house-hunting right now. Apart from the machines being a rip-off in his building, he cannot pause the wash cycles, a true luxury when you have your own w/d set in your home.

I used this during nursing school and when I worked in the ED. I realized I wasn’t even using it properly whoops. I simply added it to the softener cycle or the bleach dispenser and hit start before I hopped in the shower.

I wash all our backpacks after our flight. I was unsure if washing with Lysol really disinfects my clothes and im happy to see the results of your experiment worked. But i wash mine with gentle cycle with cold water. I hope it still disinfects😬

I have used Lysol sanitizer for many years beginning when it was powder. I worked as a nurse for many years and all of my work clothes were always washed with this and it keeps germs at bay.

thank you SO MUCH for doing the /no detergent/regular rinse cycle/ experiment. that was what im most curious about!! now i can comfortably just run my machine without worrying about pausing it! we have a 2-in1 washer that washes and dries your clothes in 1 machine so i don't think i have to worry about my clothes getting bacteria from the dryer. again thank you so much for this video/experiment! Hold Up! Hot water, as in the Towel Cycle, and a strong detergent, reduce bacteria. I would have liked to see the test done on a Cold Water no detergent cycle to test the effectiveness of this Quant type product.

I LOVE the Lysol laundry disinfectant! I use it ALL the time! It does come in unscented too. I added it to my laundry routine after my nose test on laundry was a passing grade. I swear my nose can smell bacteria 😅

I used to recommend this to my customers for washer odor. Or bleach. Washers are disgusting. I can tell a customer that washes whites with bleach as soon as I open the door of the machine lol. It’s amazing to me how few people use bleach.

I wait until the drum is about half filled during the rinse cycle and let it do its rinse thing. I’ve been considering pausing during the rinse cycle for the 16min instead of just running normally.

I nearly bought this recently because it was on sale, yet when I read the directions it was a hard no for me. The first step was to wear gloves, then you had to use two lids full and the lid is not small, on top of that it was not for those who are sensitive and the label stated that you should ask your doctor before using. I am not comfortable washing my clothing with something that I have to wear gloves and other protective gear when handling, and on top of that I can not ensure that I can properly rinse it out of my clothing. When I was originally going to comment here I started to second guess myself as to what I read, as the instructions you were giving were different, and it seemed that everywhere I looked had similar instructions, but I finally found a current label that proven that my memory was indeed correct. I guess they have a pending lawsuit, and/or they realized that they needed to cover their back-ends better, so they updated the instructions. Reading the labels more closely I find that the Lysol Laundry sanitizer is even more scary. It is not even meant for extended use at all.

Hi there! Once in a while I wipe down the inside of my dryer but not often at all! If during my testing I keep seeing after the dryer my cloths have a lot of bacteria I would give it a good sanitizing. Thanks for watching!

I have an HE top load washer, so I use tide pods in the tub with wash beads and put lysol sanitizer in the detergent spot. Should I be putting the lysol sanitizer in the softner spot instead? This channel is awesome!!!

You are a life saver. Not many people on youtube do what you do. A lot of these products make me curious if they actually work. I've already suggested this before but Pine Glo from dollar tree/dollar general dollar isle would be a good product to test. I doubt it works all that well but I'm still curious if it kills 99 percent of germs. It's a dollar at dollar general. A dollar 25 at dollar tree. Another would be homebright disenfectant spray. Yes its aerosol but i I wonder if it still would be a good product to compare to lysol disenfectant spray

You can't use a petri dish to culture parasites. You can only culture unicellular organisms like molds, yeasts and bacteria.

If I must use public washer and dryer, is doing Clorox and Tide wash without laundry enough to clean washer? Then I wipe dryer with straight vinegar. Any good?

Each washing machine has their own directions for how to clean it. My washing machine calls for 1 cup of bleach and then the Basket clean setting.. vinegar doesnt kill very many types of pathogens. Better to wipe dryer with rubbing alcohol 70 percent.

This was so helpful. But could you do this test again with cold water? I have a lot of clothes I can’t wash with warm water that I want to remove bacteria from and I want to know if this stuff actually works in cold water

Why can't it be combined with detergent in detergent dispenser? Is it because of chemical reaction with each other negatively impacts the performance. I'm asking because this would cut out the pre-soak because while it's washing it would get that recommended 15 minutes for Lysol sanitizer.

I am not sure why it cannot be combined.. It says on the label that there are two ways to use it. 1) as a pre-soak and 2) in the rinse cycle. It says on the label "Not intended to be mixed with laundry detergents in the main was compartment." So I tested it in that way. Thanks for watching!

The disinfectant in Lysol laundry sanitizer is a QAC, which is a cationic surfactant so that conflicts with the ionic surfactant used in laundry detergent. So it will have reduced (potentially no) efficacy when it's mixed with detergents.

@@daniellejaimes6658 idk if this is true,but I read once that a criminal cleaning a crime scene washed the clothing and yet police were still able to find evidence. I don't remember if it was blood, semen or DNA, I just remember them saying that washing clothes does little to wash away real soiling. As I write this I think I remember it was a rape case.

What do you recommend to use for washing scrubs? I have a son who will start working in the hospital soon and I'm concerned about him bringing home germs, especially since my youngest and I have medical and immune system issues. I'm do leery, I'm considering washing his scrubs at the laundromat. Also, husband is a mechanic. What's best to wash those clothes in? (Sweat, grease, car oil, fuel, etc.)

For Scrubs the first thing I would suggest is have your son check with the hospital. Some hospitals launder them for you, if not, then ask if they have a particular laundry protocol. If they don't, if it were me, I would use the Lysol laundry sanitizer every time I washed the scrubs. For sweat, grease.. I understand.. my husband spends all his free time fixing our cars.. so when he has filthy clothes this is what I do: I hose them down in my driveway, then with Palmolive and scrub them with a scrubby brush, then hose to rinse the Palmolive and then put in my washing machine with tide pods and either oxi clean or lysol laundry sanitizer on the heaviest cycle I got. This gets tricky in the winter..so I switch gears to Palmolive scrub in my tub before the washing machine. Hope this helps!

So how would this compare to a wash done with water temperature 65°C or higher? It seems that just using adequately hot is more than sufficient to kill bacteria

You can’t wash some clothing in temperatures that high without running into issues such as fading and shrinkage. The laundry sanitizer kills most of bacteria in colder water that otherwise survive and contaminate other clothing.

Hi there! My washing machine towels setting is warm/hot. So my levels are cold, then three levels unlabeled and then hot. So this is the level below hot. Sorry it is probably confusing 🫤. Cold rinse. I will see if I can attach a pic.

@@FieldOfFocus now, i wonder if the warm water killed some of the bacteria. i would like to know if the claim "works in cold water" truly works or it doesnt even matter since the rinse cycle is cold water to begin with? if it isn't too much trouble, can you check if cold wash and cold rinse will have the same results? (as opposed to warm wash/cold rinse?) then maybe you could "pin" your results here in the comment section so everyone would know. if you don't have time for it, its fine, im just a little curious :)

Thanks for doing these tests! I've been using this for a few years now, however, I recently learned that this product contains quaternary ammonium compounds and if you google that you'll find some interesting potential health issues it may possibly cause. Because of this, I plan to switch to Oxiclean Laundry & Home Sanitizor which doesn't use quaternary ammonium; when I google what it uses I don't see any red flags, and it can be added into the wash with the detergent as opposed to a seperate step. Would be great if you did a test just like this on Oxiclean Laundry & Home Sanitizor. With regard to the Lysol Laundry sanitizor, cannot stand the crisp linen scent and find that it lingers unless I do a wash cycle to get it out. 2-3 rinses on my front loader doesn't remove the smell for me. I bought crisp linen by accident; I normally buy the free and clear which doesn't bother me smell-wise.
