HAPPY MONDAY!!!! Hope you have all had a great start to the week. Have you tested any of the meal kit services before, what did you think? Insta and tiktok: gracebooth97 email: grackleyoutube@outlook.com
I can’t believe hello fresh only offered $9 off another purchase to make up for not sending complete kits!!! That’s such bad customer service. They literally failed their one job by forgetting the main part of the meal, not to mention the missing meal. Jeesh!
yeah, that’s unacceptable. that’s them just making more money, since you’re buying more stuff to get the “discount”. not them making up for their mistake
@@ArtGeek19 They might be revealing their product cost. A full meal plus two portions of meat costs them $9 so that’s the credit they’ll give you 🤷♀️ Quite good profit if so.
I only tried hello fresh once. I got pissed because they didn't deliver it on time, ended up sitting with the courier for 24hrs before it arrived at my house and everything was no longer cold. Never again.
I fully agree with your final remark, more boxes should cater to singles and not use umpteen utensils and pots/pans. It's lovely not to have to spend the time going out grocery shopping, but if you then lose that time on the cleanup...
I think there's a huge gap in the market for a meal box aimed at people who live on their own and focuses on one pot meals, I'm surprised there isn't one focused on that yet
that’s what i’m doing lol pasta or soup or a sandwich the 7th night and i do 2 meals a day. breakfast i do weetabix, yogurt and berries, so this cuts my grocery bill in half. very economical for 1 person to be honest 😊
I did Hello Fresh for a year and they were CONSTANTLY forgetting to send stuff or sending the wrong thing like sending beef instead of pork. It was so annoying that we ended up canceling.
I have tried Hello Fresh multiple times and they alway mess up. If you kick off enough you will get a refund. But like you said, it’s not the point! 🙈 Influencers always advertise them and it really pee’s me off. They must pay well !! Thank you for this video Grace 🙌🏻✨
GRACE THE MEAT IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX UNDER THE CARDBOARD of the HelloFresh! , they separate the meat from the fresh with additional layer of cardboard and another frozen pack at the very bottom of the box.
seems unlikely she'd manage to locate the meat for one of the three meals, and somehow miss the meat for the other two, specially as meal number three was completely missing from the box. on the horses-to-zebras scale here, I think the horses is hellofresh didn't send the meat and zebras is grace found one third of the meat and left the pork in the box.
Absolutely LOVE Mindful Chef 💗💗💗 We have three meals every week and I can honestly say we’ve never been disappointed. They’re fresh, good quality , perfect portions ,easy to follow, really tasty and you have meals you’d never normally bother to make ,subsequently , midweek meals are turned into a special culinary feast! ⭐️
I used to love Gusto but deleted the app because I was trying to curb my spending. Watching this made me take a look, logged in and got a box at 60% off. 4 meals for 4 for £22 very welcome in this current climate. We'll worth logging in if you haven't used them in a while!
Having done both HF and Gousto, we WAY preferred Gousto! We’ve stopped getting it every week now, but we still make some of the recipes as part of our regular meal rotations. Definitely great to do to shake up what you’re eating
Hello fresh- having worked there before I know a lot of regular issues that occur- So the kits get made by us- using the pre packaged items, and some times randomly you’ll get an extra spice packet, or be missing one- but because not every kit is checked continuously it’s hard to spot them. When all the kits are made, you move to another conveyor line- which is where you put a insulation bag in the box, 2 ice packs, all the meat/cold items like yoghurt, 2 more ice packs and seal it. Then on top would be all the meal packs. Then at the end, recipe cards get put in and then it gets weighed- it’s supposed to weigh between two numbers, if it’s under or over it gets pulled off to be checked. But if it’s between 6kg and 6.6kg and then it weighs 6.1kg, it could be missing a lot. The food isn’t great quality; a lot will be dropped and then picked up and put back in again, and such things like that. It’s not worth the risk in my opinion!
I regularly get HelloFresh and have learnt to go through all the bags as soon as I receive them and check off all the ingredients. It’s amazing how often I’m missing something, or the quality is horrendous of certain items. Yes it’s easy to report but also just so annoying. Here in Australia they come with the veggies and most things in paper bags but all the chilled items are separate in a big freezer bag so I go through and match everything up, but found that if I store all the veggies in a plastic bag in the crisper of my fridge they last longer than just in the paper bags in the main fridge part.
I used to work at hello fresh. The pay is crap, the working conditions are horrible, treated badly by the company and you get hours taken away if you refuse to use a gone off item. Almost all the veggies were at least a month out of date and we werent even allowed to not give customers rotting veggies. The reason you didn't get a recipe is probably because the staff refused to do it, I would refuse to work after 8 hours with no breaks but it's all okay "because it's fine, the customer won't notice".
If you ask them for a full refund, they should give you it! I had a lot of issues with them and requested money back to my bank account every time :) you’re entitled to a full refund!
Great video - I have only used Gousto and really enjoyed it. After 30 years of trying to think of what to cook for dinner, suddenly I was inspired again. I found it high quality, reliable, environmentally packaged, easy to follow, love that you get the recipe cards so you can make again - there wasn't anything I didn't like tbh. In fact I think I'll start again with Gousto - I could do with some more inspo!
My family and I used to have Hello Fresh but the meals are quite similar so it just felt as if you were eating the same thing over and over again even though they are supposed to be different recipes. We have also gotten the wrong ingredients or key ingredients that where missing so we couldn’t actually make the meal at all.
I really love using sidekick from sorted (and their RU-vid too)! It’s not a meal kit but it’s so easy to plan your week and go to the shops just once or maybe twice a week. Also I noticed it saves soo much money 😵💫 I’m curious what your thoughts are on it Grace!!
My husband and I use sidekick and it is our favorite thing to pick the meal pack for the week. Then I set up a pick up order from the grocery store and we’re set. We spend so little on food now it’s insane
Out of hello fresh and gousto, I prefer gousto. I found the portion sizes and the flavours much better, and like yourself, always have missing items from a hello fresh box. The meat quality is always good with both boxes but I would pick gousto time and time again.
Thanks useful feedback as not tried Gousto but found the portion sizes on Hello Fresh most of the time (75% of meals) to be on the small size for a adult male
Completely off topic but can't help but keep noticing and getting distracted by your engagement ring!!! 💍❤️ CONGRATULATIONS once again!!! Great video idea and very helpful and interesting as also see loads of these advertised especially in January, when people are often looking for a change of lifestyle. Good to see what they're actually like and if they're worth it! First chance I've had to say Happy New Year to you Grackle!!!!🎉✨❤️
Just had a video idea... bake with me... you're always baking and i think a few of us here like to bake too. I think Crumbs and Doilies did a similar thing during lockdown but it would be fun to make cookies or cupcakes or something with Grace's chats in the background 😅
I've had an excellent experience with hello fresh so far, it's currently my 3rd week with them. I have chronic fatigue syndrome, so I like how easy the recipes are, and my family are absolutely loving everything we've had so far!
Really appreciate the honest review as I've been on the fence about Hello Fresh for quite a while. Shan't be using them after that fail! Gusto, im about to head to your website to have a little nosey at 😆 thank you, Grace x
Hi Grace just wanted to say that I discovered your yt channels recently and I dont get how i missed on your videos for that long !!! Love the content that is totally up my street so thx you !! Hello from the south of France !
I used to love Hello Fresh but cancelled after numerous problems. Went through a spate of three boxes where ingredients were missing. Beyond frustrating.
I tried Blue Apron years ago. I loved the variety, the pre-measured ingredients, and freshness of food. I will say, I found the ingredients to be very fresh and organic. A few times I didn't take the time to cook and the vegetables would spoil in my refrigerator. I may look into another meal delivery service.
I'm actually trying it right now for one week since I got a good deal. I got the box today and had no issues. All the ingredients were very fresh and the recipe I made was very tasty, although their recipes aren't that quick to make
I tried the vegan hello fresh box and it was good (got it on a very good deal, was £15 for 3 meals, wouldn't purchase it without the deal). I think ALOT of the vegan meal kits are the same sort of meals. All curry's, pasta dishes or burgers. With the odd rare extra meal thrown in

I use gousto regularly. I'm a single person and get 5 recipes per box which gives me 10 meals each time. Only occasionally have missing ingredients, usually a spice or something. Very rarely a big/important ingredient. The credit back to the account works in my favour as I do order a box every two weeks so the money off helps but I do see if it's a one time purchase why that would be annoying. I'm not convinced though that if there was more people in my household I'd still be getting the box, I do feel that you could probs do each recipe cheaper buy buying from the supermarket for 2 or more people whereas for a single I find it a ton better for waste control as supermarket portions are often too big and don't get used up as quickly. But that's just me :-)
I love gousto. Tried it just before Christmas and was so impressed with them. The meals were lovely and no items were missing. Bonus that it was so cheap as well for the first order
We've had issues with both hello fresh and gousto so now we try to make sure we have a backup meal in the freezer in case things don't arrive. I love cooking, my partner is a bit more hesitant but having the exact quantities for each recipe and the recipe cards really helps him out. Overall I think I like Gousto the best for the variety of recipes you get to pick from.
I tried Gousto for the first time a few weeks ago, i really did rate it! I got 55% off my first box which was even better but i cant justify the price after that, sadly. The meals were super easy to make, and tasty, and i love that no ingredients are wasted. I have kept the recipe cards for future use, also! I got the 5 recipe, 2 portion, option and one night my boyfriend and I cooked one recipe for our tea and the rest i meal prepped for work or cooked for my tea beforehand. All the recipes were decently sized and easily could have stretched to 3! Would recommend
Can you try already prepared meal services? We have ones like Factor7 here in the US, even some small chef based local ones too. That would be good for those of us who don't have much energy from illnesses or ability with our hands to prep and cook.
Missing ingredients on the Hello Fresh box does happen A LOT. Usually it's just one thing missing, not a whole recipe's worth but their standard thing is to just refund £10 (apparently 9 now), whatever the problem has been. Another issue i found with them was that often the meat would have a 'use by' date that fell within a couple of days. Meaning you obviously can't actually plan your week because you just have to get on and make the thing that's going out of date tomorrow and then time everything else, just hoping you get through it all b4 the dates run out.
Loved this video, super insightful and interested in looking into mindful chef now! I have used both hello fresh and Gousto mostly in order to find new recipes and because both have quite good discounts for around the first month you use it. (I have actually used gousto twice as they have sent me more really good discounts even once I’d used them before). They both served their purpose and still use the recipes from previous boxes, although I think with gousto have recipes that I’m more inclined to reach for, although perhaps I’m just more practised in picking out recipes by now. The issue with recreating recipes from these meal boxes is that sometime they send you quite niche ingredients as they’re sending them to you in small amounts. Although I would say I have found it more difficult with hello fresh recipes than gousto, but always managed in the end! Another thing to add is that I also had an accident with HF in it missed the meat out of a recipe and they gave me credit too which I have yet to use 😅 I’ve actually never had to think with gousto if it’s all there or not! I much prefer the ingredients being sent in fridge/cupboard sections than by meals as I hate using up space in my fridge for things that don’t need to be there. Sorry very lengthy input on my options on HF and Gousto that nobody asked for. Just incase anyone was interested! ❤
Personally, I really love Hello Fresh. I've gotten it 8 times in the past 6 months when I had different deals and discounts and the only bad experience was that I had 1 minor ingredient missing. For me, the more convenient the recipe is made to be - the better it is
I used to agree with you, but for me (someone who likes variety and trying new cuisines) it got boring real fast. Always the same minced meat, often potato wedges, often just diced chicken. It isn't that it's bad, it's just a bit uninspiring and boring to me! That being said i always go back every few months - until I get bored.
I live in Canada and I use Hello Fresh and I love it. I've tried other ones that we have available here, but I always go back to Hello Fresh. My potatoes have never come in plastic, they are always loose in the paper bag.
Also very surprisingly with the plastic when Grace is in England and there’s currently a new law coming into place I think, about one use plastic being banned.
@@tarachristie933 I don't think it would apply to this. Disposable plastic straws and cotton buds were banned a few years ago. The new ban extends this to plates and cutlery (aimed at lunchtime takeaway services). We still have a massive issue with plastic packaging in the UK, especially with services like this. I'm surprised to hear though that the same company uses different types of packaging in different countries though - hopefully their UK arm gets updated soon.
My friends used to have a hello fresh subscription and they told me that quite often some items would just be missing. Also the premade sauces are hit or miss, some taste very articial.
I get EveryPlate, which is ran by the same people who do Hello Fresh, but it’s cheaper and there’s not all the individual packaging. I’ve used it for about a year and I love it! I get it for 2 people, 4 meals a box (there is an option to do more) and it’s $54usd a box. It’s great for someone like me who gets stuck on ideas for meals and doesn’t have a lot of time. I agree though, they do make you use too many dishes lol.
I've bought a Hello Fresh box before and had the exact same problem with lots of missing ingredients. I was so mad because i got home at 9pm and had nothing else to eat because i hadn't done any food shopping.
I’ve used hello fresh twice in Australia and have found it very good. I was missing a sachet of oyster sauce once but other than that I’ve found them great and the recipes are delish!
I used to get hello fresh delivered every week and I actually had lots of problems with it in the end. I don't know if that's the case for other countries but I'm from Luxembourg and we get delivered Hello fresh from Belgium. In the end there were always some ingredients missing, the vegetables were not fresh at all and the portion sizes were way too small like for example we got 200g of chicken for 4 people! That's why we stopped ordering it
I've only tried Hello Fresh but didn't like it very much, not enough variety for me and too much washing up! I might try Gusto now though and see how it compares.
I’m a big Gousto fan. I cook for one so I always have leftovers which is really nice. I’ve only ever had a few issues with Gousto, but I had to cancel my Hf box as there didn’t deliver the exact ingredients or the box didn’t turn up 😂
Most people I've seen that's had hello fresh its had missing items or even sometimes gone off items so I'd definitely say stick to the others on this list tbh
In Australia hello fresh is my favourite they are so good! I’ve tried a few of the other ones but I always go back to them they use a lot less plastic over here though
I don't like grating either ... if I have a lot to do, especially cheese, I use the Cuisinart. Here in the USA the main meal boxes are Green Chef, Hello Fresh. Blue Apron, and Home Chef - they seem to be the most popular.
I love Mindful chef. I think you really are paying for recipe creation with them as they are all creative wholefoods recipes. The meal sizes are large and the vegan recipes are really original. Gusto tends to be a little more 'classic' in recipe and uses more processed foods.
I used hello freash but found the meal became very similar they did help my son learn to cook but it became harder to pick meals because they were so similar and often had bits missing sometimes just bits sometimes whole meals
With hello fresh we've had a lot of problems with the fresh part of the ingredients. When we got food for 3 days, it almost had to be eaten immediately instead of over the week (what would happen if we had ordered for 5 days?). I have to say that we had broken eggs in our boxes twice, one time we got the next 2 meals for free and the other time we got money in our account for the replaced items.
I have Green Chef because they have vegan recipes. I have had a few issues, but considering that I have had it for almost 3 years and I have had issues on about 5 occasions it's actually pretty good. (I don't know if they sell in England.)
We used Gousto for a year or so, found the recipes interesting, ingredients good quality, and service reliable... we only gave it up due to the price and amount of cardboard boxes/packaging but would recommend if these issues don't put you off.
I live in Belgium, so I don't know how different the service is, because of the country not being the same. But the only box I ever tried was Hello Fresh, for like a good 8 months, and here it seems different. I had no problem with any missing ingredients, very clear communication when they had to send a substitute, amazing packaging with biodegradable (how do you spell the word?!) products and actually fresh ingredients... Maybe it's because Belgium is a small country, so it's easier to achieve? I actually would recommend Hello Fresh for Belgians :)
Out of these I’ve only used Gousto. I have always really enjoyed their recipes and they have an amazing variety of veggie options! However, on a number of occasions I’ve received pretty poor quality ingredients e.g. completely wilted herbs and rotten tomatoes. They always refund me to my account but it makes it a lot less convenient because I need to then go buy those ingredients. I think I will give gousto another try though and hopefully it is better. Oh also you can order less than 4 meals!
I order gousto weekly too and have found recently I have been getting a lot more mouldy vegetables ect. Must be an issue atm. Thought I was unlucky haha
That’s interesting! In Germany I Never had any problem with Hello fresh and it is not that much plastic at all! All veggies are without any packaging and almost everything that needs packaging has in a paper bags (even spices) All in all the whole experience in UK looks very different from Germany
In NZ, we have a few bags. But they are so expensive. I actually now pay for a subscription to a recipe bank. They do a weekly meal plan for you so still get the variety but way cheaper. I know it's not the convenience of delivery but if you really wanted to, could just get groceries delivered haha
@@riverAmazonNZ yea! It's an NZ run website so everything on there is based on NZ available ingredients and measurements. They even add seasonal recipes and sort by budget friendly, time friendly, kid friendly, cuisines and dietary requirements. It's called MenuAid and it's actually reasonable of $4 a week to access all their recipes. It's an awesome alternative if it's within your budget to the food bags
I think you can purchase all these ingredients through online grocery stores, and the recipe can be easily found through the internet. It saves more compared to meal kits, which I don't understand why meal kits are so popular.
We trialed hello fresh but without the coupon too expensive. There are often reps for Hello Fresh in our shopping centers I find them really pushy. I haven't used it again. One pot meals are the best!
In an age where you can get any recipe online and groceries delivered I just couldn't justify this expense. It works out really expensive cos at least if you buy everything yourself you get enough for other meals as well. It's really not that difficult.
hello fresh always lacks good veggie options, every time I've been tempted to try it out there's maybe like 2 options for the week so I've never bothered
I get hello fresh I have 3 meals for two but get 6 meals out of it as I am alone. Also the bag that holds the ice packs contains the meat and other fridge ingredients. I threw mine away the first time
I have had nothing but bad experiences with hello fresh; out of date ingredients, wrong recipes, forgetting the entire box … on the contrary, have loved Gousto!
Tried hello fresh and everything came. But the portion sizes are tiny. And everything is extra unless you want to eat mince meat every time. Having said that it was pretty tasty but we wouldn’t get it again.
