I think a version of Claude Monet's water lilies would be a good idea with these (and totally your style). I would recommend watching a tutorial on the OG painting and then replicating the design. Replicating others works is encouraged in the art community because it helps you find techniques and styles that you like. Love the video. Can't wait to see more!

It is always very tempting when painting to use as many colours as possible in one motif :) My tip is to limit the colourpalette early on, this will make the colours pop more and not turn muddy. By this i mean sticking to basic colour theory, such as complementary combinations, and keeping value and chroma in mind (especially value, because colours disappear the less light is has to reflect on). A good strategy will be putting the darkest colour/shade in the motif the very last, always maintaing the light. Oil paint is very thick so being concious with strokework is key, my last tip is to actually switch from a long nail-art brush to a shorter tiny paintbrush, this will give you more control when it comes to details! Looking forward to seeing future experiments :)

@mellinsomnia1
@mellinsomnia1 Год назад
@@sarahlawson1695 it could be because of the products (brand) you were using. I for example have always had allergies to Madam Glam polishes and all products. Hated that cause they are good quality. After that, I realized I was allergic to IBD primer. Changed it and everything is fine. It really can only be that you bumped into the ones that don't work for you. My advice is to test them. Literally just dab a bit of the product around your nail. Just a little drop and clean it immediately. Wait 48 hours and see if there's a reaction. When doing nails, do everything you can not to touch the skin in any way with the product. Also, if you were using acrylic, try using gel.

The thing with oils is because they take longer to dry than other paints you can work your colours into each other on the canvas, leading to soft transitions between light and shadow. I havent used these specific gels obviously but having used oil paints and regular nail gel I'd guess the draw of these would be that you could get your soft, shaded design down and then cure that layer and go in with vibrant highlights on top. Honestly I think once you get the hang of these you'll be doing amazing things with them 💙

I was thinking the same thing, however oil paints are almost always watered down with a medium, to create those effects. I wounder if you thined it out with alcohol, would it be less of a imposto effect and the beautiful blends that oils are known for?

There's no way I can afford this set, but as an oil painter I hope I can give you some tips. In oil painting we always follow the fat over lean rule, which means we always start with thinner consistency paint and work our way to the thicker textured paint. With oil we thin it down with mineral spirits or an oil medium. My understanding is these paints are just oil textured gel polish and not actual oil paint, so I don't see why you can't use a little bit of alcohol to think the consistency for lower layers, or maybe use some alcohol with a clean brush to selectively blend. Hopes this helps! This gave me all sorts of ideas of using my artist paints for nail art 🤔

I’m a painter and although I’ve only used oil paints a handful of times I will say they are a pain in the ass to work with. They definitely take some getting used to and the technique is very important. For me, it seemed to work better when I layered a bunch (that’s why you always see so much texture in oil paintings). I think it would be very difficult to get the paintings to look “right” on a nail because there is so little surface area and the layering could really distort the shape of the nail and it could easily end up looking really globbed on. Not sure I’d pay that much 💵 for this product but Regardless, I think you did a good job for your first experiment with these! I know you weren’t impressed with your raspberries 🍓 but I really liked that one, and the filigree was bomb! Good job!

A good approach to using these would be to capitalize on their translucency and do an underpainting with colour glazes: Start by working out your details, darks and lights in a black&white painting, and set it. Next glaze colours over top where desired so the underpainting’s depth and details show through. You can get some incredible luminosity with oils. Many make the mistake of trying to use them like acrylics by layering up to create intensity, which is where the muddiness takes over. For a warmer effect, try an underpainting in sepia tones.
@aprilosborne398
@aprilosborne398 Год назад
I think the strawberries looked unfinished because they needed a highlight (light pink or cream/white) on the left sides of them and then shading on the right sides with a deep red/black. I think that would have made them look more realistic and tied the "painting" together :) I think adding texture to the background was a good call also.

Here is a tip for you that maybe it will help you more with blending is to use a palette knife when mixing to help blend the colors so it won't be so grainy versus using a brush. Sometimes with professional paints it needs a bit more blending to become a smooth texture rather than chunky.
@cosmic_adrian

This truly was trust the process cause I was even skeptical after you finished but it wasn’t until the b roll of your set already on and outside that you see the texture or maybe it dried down to a more muted color but they came out so dope for a test run! I think the combo of matte and brush strokes really amped them even if design is more simple. 👏👏👏👏

There's an old MoMA series here on youtube called "How to paint like", where they give a tutorial on a painting. I'd specially suggest the Willem de Kooning and Yayoi Kusama videos 🥰

What a cool set! Thanks for giving such a detailed look at these! If anyone wants try this kind of thing, you might give gel stamping polish a try as less of an investment! I own a few basic colors of stamping gel polish that came in these squeezable tubes and they work great for painting designs and ombres cause the texture is thicker and color is more opaque (I actually think they perform better as gel paints rather than gel stamping polish lol)

I think u did excellent for ur first time painting. Oil paints can be tricky tho. Here's some tips to help u improve... 1. Try going from dark to light. You do highlights last in a painting 2. Do the background first before add details to the foreground 3. U usually have a lot of drying time for oil paints, so don't rush 4. Texture is normal. Use thin layers first then add more paint as u go. 5. References are a must to study how colors interact with each others. 6. Mixing complementary colors helps with a more "realistic" approach. Hope these tips help
