I used to drive these in the Australian Army, like first comment, need ballast in the back. Also before all water operations we took off all inspection hatches and drain plugs then greased them up and put them back on. We sealed everything with grease!
I drove the M548 in the Canadian Armed forces, with an empty back you need to add ballast, it keeps the front up. Just for future reference if you try any of the other 113 family add ballast. With the amount of water coming in it looks like you lost a drain plug
I really love how Heavy D gets a phone call at the lake about a recovery and he gets so excited that he starts thinking about everything he needs before they even leave the lake. Can't wait to watch it
I started watching this channel because I met Diesel Dave in Moab rock crawling. Really cool guy. One of the kids that was on my Rock Crawling tour wanted his autograph and he stopped everything and even took a picture with our whole tour.
Back in the 80's , me and my family were camping on the north end of Deer Creek when the National Guard showed up with some type of amphibious vehicle about 3x the size of Heavy D's machine here. They loaded up a bunch of us in the camp ground we were at and then proceeded to head towards the boat ramp and splash! Only, I was about 5 years old. I had no clue what was going on other than I was going to take a ride on the Army vehicle. Imagine my shock when I thought they were about to murder me! Anyways, they took us out for about an hour Stroll and allowed the adults to do dives off the water craft. I totally recommend you do this if you ever get the opportunity.
My guess would be that those would be more used for crossing a river when theirs no bridge or for swamp basically where their isnt a proper road. Don't think its really meant to be a boat
That bilge pump was still finding plenty water to pump when you guys were halfway home. Where is all the water collecting? It might be worth finding out and trying to calm it down a bit. Maybe a job for the new owner.😁
hey D maybe put some air baffles on the front of the tank to compensate for the extra weight and maybe put tanks on the back that you can fill up with water to level it out and then you can drain the water out when you get back on dry land so its not so heavy!! btw love this video!! you always come up with some awsome shows
It was super cool to actually see this in person! We were the people who met you earlier that day with the red MasterCraft. We saw tons of smoke/steam from the other side of the lake and assumed something really bad happened to somebody (assumed it was the tank lol). Glad to find out it was only water in the fuel
That looked like a blast! The water was gorgeous and the tank driving down the ramp in the water was mind-blowing. Never a dull moment! Peace and Love always...
Heavy D the best part of this video was that you guys had a big smile on your face and y'all had a lot of fun and my book that's a lot of good energy and positivity on you guys God bless each and everyone of you thank you for the video watching all the way from Spain peace out
AWESOME! Heavy D, in this next recovery, can you do a segment on snatch blocks, how to use them, and safety? I am about to procure some for personal use should I get stuck in my new (to me) Raptor.
You guys have such great times...looks fun. Never disappointed... You should have a fan day -where one or two fans get to hangout with you for an epic adventure/ recovery... I want to be the first
Man I have so many ideas running through my head of fun things that could be done with that machine! Our freaking military builds some of the most awesome machinery on this planet! Can't wait to see the excavator recovery! Gonna be a good one!
Hi. I remember a guy having an amphibious car at Deer Lake WA. First time I saw him drive it into the Lake I was around 10. Then saw him another time when I was in my 30's. Those things were built tough. Your rig is way cooler!
Heavy D thank you for your great videos. Love watching you guys. Thanks m glad your best friend survive his accident. Prayers are truly answered. Be safe brother from one patriot to another GOD BLESS you and your family. You have made a lot of people happy with your kindness.
Those are designed to have heavy loads in the rear. Like 30+ guys or full of equipment. It’s designed to ride in water at the water line that the front was at. So it rides lower in water actually.
dude on the jet ski was awesome. that thing is a beast. my dads dad was a US Marine who fought on japans soil with his m16. i wouldnt be surprised if he rolled on one of these brand new. love your videos bro
That is so awesome even the part of break down cause so many track veh can’t be towed when they lose power and being able to pull it onto land and even showing how fairly easy it was to also load onto trailer makes ya feel better if u break down and not have to leave it somewhere
I wish I knew this channel was up and running again sooner. I started watching in the beginning and stopped when the videos did. But I'm extremely excited to see you're going again. I'm not able to watch the TV show but absolutely love your RU-vid channel!!!!! I just spent the last few days catching up to present time and can't wait to see more of what's happening. Great job to everyone involved and keep safe!!!!
Dealt with many of these in the Cold War days...ol V53 Detroit...we swapp those packs and hope the one you installed didn't run away ...the ol Super Charger GMC 671 Blower could such down and chew up 3 to 4 inch Army TM manuals and spit them out ...same packs used in the M113 APC'S , Vietnam Era equipment. We had a lot of fun with those ol tracks ...this type chassis was also use for the ADA Chappell 's which shot the surface to air sidewinders .....Never Ever forget the old V53 sound ... cool deal to see the ol Warrior still moving forward ... 👍
Another quality Vlog with Big Boy Toyz, thanks Heavy D!!! Looking forward to the excavator recovery you talked about in the end of the video, can't wait to watch it!!
Now that's pretty cool.👍👍👊 What brought me to your channel in the first place was the recovery of the bulldozers and the two excavators. Can't wait to see this one
So cool to see a truck builder actually working their builds. Most others build prissy mall crawlers, you guys build working trucks. Next Utah lake you should visit is Bear Lake. It's over 7 miles wide and over 20 miles long. Plus Logan canyon is a scenic drive and Raspberry days started today.
M548 Cargo carriers were primarily used by the field artillery to carry ammunition. The largest difference in controls between the M113 models and this variant is the steering. All models use independent braking on each set of tracks to make it go left or right. Primary steering is by those two metal rods "laterals" (its not an "A3 model, those have steering wheels and power brakes) What's missing from the M548 are the two upper steering levers for water operation. I drove 113A2 and M577 A2's (among other vehicles)until 1995 when I left Armor for Engineering. Beats walking ! Death before Dismount.
My dad showed me this video because the old guys you chatted with were my dad and my uncle! My dad had no idea who you were but now he says he’s famous for being in your video. 😂 it was really fun to see my dad make you laugh too. The interaction with him was so fun for me to see.
That's one cool video Starting watching when you rescued the excavators in the desert. Didn't know you were diesel people. Just thought you all were a good group of guys doing cool things.👍
M113 Family, and not a troop carrier. We use to call them Track Load Carriers here in Australia to move cargo . . . and Yep . . . as the others have said, there is a process to follow before swimming these things. Checking all your Drain, Inspection and Service Hatches seals are sealing correctly so no water gets in at all. Extra weight added to the cargo area to trim them out so they sit nice and even in the water. If you do it right . . . your bilge pumps don't pump any water, and providing you have flat water . . . they'll swim all day . . . use to be fun operating them.
Loved watching the pickup truck become the VTR !!!!! ....An ol Arny term for Vehicle Track Recovery ....aka Tank Retriever...M578, M88 .....GLAD the ol Warrior roll good ....yall brought a smile and laughs to this Old Soldier ☺
The ol legal team!! cracks me up he’s always worried about the law like he’s the one thats gunna get arrested and get his expensive toys taken away lol
Good showing, watching y’all is better than watching TV keep it up great job love watching y’all’ keep it up have a great day. And well see ya next time see ya by.
I've got to say brother, you are definitely a problem solver. I just watched the video, getting that trash and excavator off the island. I also watched to guys getting that farmers excavator out of the mud hole. You are a genius Heavy D. Oh, congratulations getting that excavator off the island. PEACE ✌
I might comment to much but I wanted to say I actually watch every minute of your videos. They are really entertaining and different than anyone else. I remember years ago when I seen your first 6 door truck build. Well the first one I seen anyway. I thought these guys are amazing. That's something I think all of us truck guys dream of. On a side note the van build would have been epic to see as well.
Diesel dave sitting behind the truck while pulling the tank gave me anxiety.. good thing the chain link didn't break.. dayumn good video as always.. be safe guys and keep doin amazing Stuff
I worked on these in Germany in B Battery 1/75 Field Artillery Unit. They were used for hauling 8 inch artillery shells for our M110 howitzers. Never used them in water tho.
Absolutely love you guys and your constant " pushing the limits " problem solving. Bad@$$ capacities. Truly my enjoyment in the day is watching what ya'll have going next. Keep the adventures going! Sparks Adventures International!
Man An O Ring in a fuel cap brought the beast to it's knees it always the smallest least expected piece that will get you Great recovery. Hangin' for the Next big Dozer recovery you announced.
Thinking on it, the Weasel would have been better to go rescue that stuck school bus. Weasels have lower ground pressure (per sq. inch) than FEET do (this is why they do so well in a swamp/snow). There should be a trim vane on the front (where those hinges are they had their feet on) the bilge pump(s) (there should be a battery powered electric pump) EITHER OF THEM, should be able to nearly empty it, if she was full, in less than five minutes.... P.S. I did notice that ONE of you was smart enough to have/put on a PFD!
Hey Dave, the military has a load schedule for fording their vehicles. That being said, ballast added to the bed at near the scheduled weight will bring the nose up. I heard DD say something about a Gamma Goat. Those I do know about. We tested the fording capabilities when I was in the service. 1 of three the first trip out. Learning curve. 4/4 on the next. You have to load them properly or you will sink it. QUICK. Good luck.
The more and more I bing watch your videos, I’m beginning to think your builds are like the builds at “pimp your ride” “monster garage” if you ever saw one up close, you’d understand
That looked like so much fun mate , And the way you hit the water on the first entry well that just proved my theory, that you guys are crazy. Cheers . :)
