We have a local Amish store that carries dried soup greens(Peppers, Onions, Carrots, Potatoes, and Cabbage). Excellent to add to your ramen to boost nutritional value. Also a bit of freeze-dried beef, is an good addition.

i do that too. i add some dehydrated cabbage and carrots, soy sauce and chicken or shrimp respectively. two pkgs noodles 1 flavor packet. makes two good meals.

Agreed. I add all kinds of stuff to ramen. Peppers, carrots, corn, meat chunks, etc. Tomato juice is good. A few tablespoons of quick barley will stretch it.

Throw the peanuts in with the Ramen, they will freshen up with the hot water. I do that with older cashews, works great

You know I usually comment when I don't like one of your videos. I'm not even done with this video and I had to come in to tell you how freaking awesome it was 👍👍👍 you should really tune the metadata for this video, I think it could be a very popular one. Great job and thanks for sharing.

I have had that happen with the seal on some of mine and it happens when I put in noodles or something that has open spaces in it and I think it is because all the air isn't taken out of those spaces.

I had made several of my own after watching your original video and got them out and tested some as well! I had not put peanuts in mine but some jif single serve peanut butter packets. they were still good so im hoping they don't go rancid. thanks for another great video

Good vid, you can do a LOT with a vacuum sealer and just grocery store foods. Glad you passed on the stale nuts!
@vohawk

When you have stale carbs, you can often bake them and make them edible again. Not every time or everything, but many items will work out. Best try it out with whatever stale items you have and decide for yourself.
@Emeraldwitch30

My daughter complained that her chips/crackers always get stale before they eat them. (The kids tend not to clip the bags back tight 🙄) I told her that I often "baked" chips and crackers at a low temperature in the oven when they were at school so that it took the moisture out and they were crispy again. She had 3 separate bags of corn chips that were stale, so we cranked up the oven and toast them about 10. Maybe 15 minutes. Let them cool and put in a big zipper bag. They were just as nice as when they were first opened. Grandkiddos were impressed and thought grammy was a genius lol

If the peanuts taste stale just throw them in with the Ramen at the end of the cooking time and it should knock off that stale flavor

Those emergency water packets probably stay "safe" but they get a bit of a flavor from the packaging after a while.

@@debbiekerr3989 Foodsaver is the best of the sizes like this. Perfect for one or two people. For a larger family, I'd buy a commercial one. I've had and killed 2 Foodsavers but I love it. The bagging is not cheap but often I reuse them..don't wait. I also bought the caps to vacuum jars, too. Well worth the costs

I gave up on the food saver and the like vacuum bags. I've had very bad luck with the seal failing. Many of my sealed bags failed to hold a vacuum. I have switched over to using heavy mylar bags with O2 absorbers. I've only had one bag fail. Write out on the outside of the bag what is inside and the date sealed.

I hate to ask if you’ve said it in another video, but what bags do you seal the food in specifically? Is it a peel-and-stick situation or do you use a tool to seal them?
@Pretzelogic
@Pretzelogic 4 года назад
Why no oxygen absorber? I know they are closed containers but it might help getting all of the air out of the foodsaver bag. Maybe a few pinholes if you are going to keep them in the containers. I would be more concerned about the plastic leaching into the food so I would take what I could out of the original containers. 🌻
@Iridium242
@Iridium242 4 года назад
I never really worried about an oxy absorber, as all the food is sealed, might help keep the package sealed tight but the others I have made back then are just as tight as the day I packed them, that's sort of why I chose this one, it wasn't as tightly packed as the others :) As for leeching, I would not worry too much about it, as for the most part, you would need to heat the plastic for it to leech.

How old was the ramen? I've wondered how long they stay good considering that they are fried and may have oil in them(?). If they don't get rancid that's good news. Oil going rancid is why nuts don't last long.
