BETTER LIGHT BOX HACK: get a wide picture frame (not a flat one) that's generally big enough for your drawings. Get some small plastic fairy lights (not the Christmas ones but the smaller ones) and put them inside the frame. Grab the battery box and tape it to the back of the frame, and turn it on. Boom, light box 😊

For the altoids hack, would air dry clay work better? Air dry clay and a large round dotting clay tool to make shallow holes. That way you won't have to bake the clay. You can even seal it with midge podge to waterproof it! I think I may try this tomorrow :) I've got tons of empty altoids cans.
@MrsSanguisa

Put clay inside the altoids, make your molds, put it in the freezer unti the clay is hard, pull the clay carefully out, bake it, let it cool down, put it back into the box and clue if nessecary.

I had to make an improvised light box like that once XD I was at a month long art course and for my final assignment I was going to finish digitally but my tablet stopped working. And I didn't have a good way to clean up my sketches without a light box and I ended up grabbing a clear bin that was supposed to be for cereal that I never used, and shoved my bendable lamp into it which somewhat saved the day. Inspired by that I now usually use a clear plastic clipboard and my lamp cause it's just easier than getting out my heavy light box
@ChloeRoseArt

I made a travel watercolor tin, I took a pop out mint pack (Eclipse gum?) popped out all the gum and put my watercolors in there (I use tubes) MAKE SURE YOU LET THEM DRY BEFORE YOU START TO USE THEM! I separated the packs (where the paint is) with a little bit of paper towel. and it all fits so nice! When I go to use the paints, I take them out and use the tin for the water :) Great video, Chloe! Brightened my day! :D

shrek's uncle yes, you're right. I'm a polymer clay artist for 20+ years and you can safely bake most metal, glass, stones, or ceramic objects in the oven along with the clay - since the clay bakes at a pretty low temperature, it's usually fine. I use a miniature convection oven dedicated to clay and bake it outside to avoid breathing fumes.

For the lightbox, I'd rather recommend a clear acrylic makeup drawer. Some of them you can stack, so you can just buy a single drawer, and pop your phone into the drawer to use it. It's stiffer than a plastic organizer box, and you can buy one in a larger size, and because it's clear and not translucent white like an organizer box, it'll work better.

I made the travel tin of watercolors last year and I LOVE IT. It's perfect to use with waterbrushes on a train commute or wherever you happen to be out, and it fits in your purse. I used empty halfpans I got off of Amazon for cheap, and stuck them in with sticky tack. The first one I made rusted out, so the new one I coated the inside with white enamel and it is still perfect. I keep a small sponge I cut down to size in it as well to dab my brush on. I definitely want to make more in some nice vintage tins.

I made a light box similar to that for the kids when they visit. I took Christmas tree lights and glued them to the inside bottom of a small, flat, under the bed clothes box, ya know the ones with a lid. I keep some paper in there and coloring items that would need to use all in one box. The lights I placed all around the edges and up and down the middle of the box and it works great. I even have an extension cord in there just for them to plug into the outlet to light it up. Works like a charm! The box, lights, cord and all items inside was around $20.

I did the traveling watercolor set re-using a little manicure kit box I had and it turns out to be the best craft ever. I thought about using Fimo or air-dry clay, but I couldn't put the box in the oven to dry the fimo and the air-dry clay had two main problems: too heavy and it shrinks when it dries.... so I discovered a foamy dough for kids craft that dries after a day or two and happens to be really light, so it doesn't add any weight to the box... it also keeps that foamy texture, so it's really easy to remove the pans and rearrange the colors.

For the Altoids tin travel art kit, my sister used bottle caps to hold the paint. I thought it turned out pretty cool. Just a tip if you ever made another one. Btw, awesome video!

using the pipe foam and a hanging paper towel holder, mounted on the underside of your wooden art table or easel, do the same thing and hang your brushes upside down and our done. good video thank you

For the light box, I use a shoe box and put one of the glass shelves from the refrigerator on top of it. I use a camping lamp and usually trace on fabric.

For the lightbox hack I prefer a glass table and a lamp. I have a glass drafting table type thing, and an old lamp with no shade on that I keep under the table incase I need it. I imagine it would work well with a glass coffee table as well.

11:00 yeah! when I was at school and I left my lightbox at home, i'd use a clear plastic plate resting on my crossed legs and a flashlight as a sort of makeshift lightbox

I used to try and use a clip on desk lamp and a piece of glass I had as a lightbox. It worked great for seeing through the paper, but the glass magnified the already hot lamp and would make fine liners bleed. Cooler lights like phone flashlights don't do that, though. So it's still viable. Another thing I found useful for that type of thing were transparent plastic breakfast trays. (They're intended to be used in chairs and beds and such, and therefore have side pocket leg-like things.) They're meant to hold plates and such, so they're a bit sturdier than a plastic drawer would be.

When it came to the DIY build you own travel paint set I used the packet holders from the dentyne gum pack and glued them in the empty mint tin then added the paint.

XD That makeshift lightbox... I used a translucent pink plastic clipboard and my camping flashlight when I was younger. Had to be careful because the flashlight would actually heat the clipboard enough that f I went too long with it, it would warp the plastic slightly. But yeah, the plastic drawer idea is pretty great!
