Testing the fuel system on my Porsche 924 - Part 7 

I will try to help you out with your starting issues: 1/ you need to Check the fonctioning the cold start injector located AT the upper backside Of the engine 2/ don’t push the accelerator when ignitating the engine... you only need to do this on carburator engines 3/ when you put ignition on (not starting), you can gently & manually level UP the rond Metal plate...by doing so, if you hear the injection and see fuel being sprayed at the injectors, you know that the fuel is well injected .

Cool video. I'd suggest changing that fuel pump regardless, its old and even if its still working, at least with a new one you'll know you'll be good for another 10 years. I'd clean out your fuel tank, and blow out all of your lines, and replace the fuel filter as well. Keep up the great videos. :-)

Hi, i've got a 88 944 had similar issues: one of the best things I did was get a cheap fuel pressure gauge (it came from China and was only about a fiver off e bay: that showed me problems with the fuel pressure regulator: fuel pressure was too high, and the injectors can overload the electrical supply: for proof, I disconnected one of the injectors and the car started. I got one second hand regulator, that failed after a week of so, then go t a new (expensive) one; not from Porsche, but from one of the independents. Most of this is probably totally irrelevant to you, but the fuel pressure gauge is key to fault finding. (I see many videos on you-tube, where people are trying to fault find fuel issues, very few of them take the trouble to check the fuel pressure) great videos, as you say the enjoyment (!) of older cars!

Before going to the Fuel injectors basic settings should be tested like fuel pressure is the first place to start a diagnosis on any CIS injection

These CIS Ktronic systems are made by Bosch and fitted on early VW Golf Gti, Sirroco’s as well as Porsches, Audi and the worst thing to do is neglect them by not running the engine regularly. What usually happens is the fuel tank fills up with rust and sucks it through to fuel metering unit, the fuel metering unit is a very delicate thing with four tiny jets inside. I have stripped these down and found it impossible to unblock the jets, the jets are the size of a sewing needle with a non return valve. Once the old fuel goes hard through a lack of use you’re pretty much done for. I’ve had the head unit stripped down and soaking for weeks in carb cleaner/plus gas without any success. Only sensible thing is to get a recon unit, I would avoid fitting a second hand unit for the reason mention above. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with mine. I would hear the pump working but there would be no fuel coming out. I changed fuel pump and filer(witch was 20 years old!) and that did the trick. Mine was sitting for 10 years prior to that so maybe not the same problem but worth a try.

Witty - Great video! I'm starting in on the fuel/ignition system. What's the best way to tell if the pumps are working? Have someone crank while someone listens to the pumps? Also, did you pull just 1 injector? As far as I can tell, there isn't any fuel being delivered to the cylinders (#1 cylinder spark plug was dry). Cheers!

Mine doesent start i change Spark plugs and doesent start the spurk plug isnt wet what can i try ?
