L.A.B. Golf CEO Sam Hahn tests the PXG Allen putter in The Revealer to explain how The Revealer works and how it identifies torque.
He also talks through the L.A.B. Golf Lie Angle Balancing process to explain how it's different than the mass-produced putter building process used by the largest golf equipment manufacturers.

The only 3rd party data I’ve seen testing both putters using robotics showed the Allen performing slightly more consistently in terms of line and distance, but lab is cool too

The fact that a 3rd party said the PXG performed slightly better? Ya hard to argue against data. 😂 you also can’t forget the eye test. Only a blind person would pick a lab over a PXG. Good news though, a couple other companies are coming out with their own putters as well for you blowhards to argue over.

Awesome comparison. My custom fit DF3 is by far the best putter I’ve ever used in over 30 years of golfing. It’s all about the lie angle. When a LAB is custom fit for your lie angle you can FEEL and know there is no twisting needed to get the face square to the target line. I haven’t rolled a pxg Allen but based on this video it’s clear to me the Allen has torque. I’m happy with my DF3 and this one will be in my bag forever

I knew this was the case the second it came out. This is why i doubted Lab putters at first. I owned the Axis1 Joey putter and I pulled putts all the time. It’s because it closes hard at impact in the revealer. If you are going to make a Zero Torque putter, the shaft MUST be center shafted. You can’t have it all bendy or a weird shaped hosel, otherwise it will close hard at impact. Lab is the only company that makes Lie Angle Balance putters.

I have used LAB putters for a few years now, original DF 2.1, and Mezz 1 in conventional 35" length, and the last 6+ months have converted to broomsticks in DF 2.1, Mezz Max, and DF3 ranging from 44.5" to 46" with TPT shafts. The broomsticks are the best and easiest putters to use I have ever owned. Speed control on longer putts is better, short putts are better with fewer misses inside 6-8 feet, ball starts on my line better and rolls truer. I have owned 100's of conventional putters over the years, but never putted better or have been happier than with my LAB broomsticks. Feel is great, soft off the face with good sound, my original DF 2.1 had a little high pitched "ting" when hit off the toe, that is my only negative with these putters. For some reason I don't get that with my broomstick DF 2.1? The look is subjective, but if you can aim it and hit it on your line it will look pretty damn great! I've spent a lot of cash on these putters and have no financial interest in the company, but I think they are truly revolutionary and helpful in the part of the game that is probably most critical for success. Hope this helps someone get off the fence and try it and have the success I have seen. Great job Sam and your team!

Received my stock DF3 last week. Played Sunday and had 28 putts, which was the lowest number I've had in quite a while. Granted someone of those were tap-ins after close greenside bunker shots. My reasoning for looking at a LAB putter was due to a consistent pull in my putting stroke, which has definitely been reduced with the DF3. Have all the confidence in the world now standing over 4-6 foot putts. I've had two 3 putts since I purchased it, and one was probably from 70 feet away.

I see a lot of comments on LAB and the Allan from golfers who have tried neither, which s not very informative for anyone. I have had both, the MEZZ and i now have the Allan putter, so i have hands on experience for both. The MEZZ i struggled with especially distance control which is normally a strength of mine. It was good from 10 feet and in, but didnt notice any real improvement from my EVNROLL gamer. I kept it about a month and moved it on. I have now had the Allan for a few weeks and can honestly say i have never puttered as well, both distance control and holing out. Im a 6 handicapper but have always felt i should hole more 6-10 footers, and with the Allan i have. Just played today and Arccos had me as +6.4 strokes gained putting, 26 putts and holed everything inside 10 feet and a couple longer ones. I dont care who has the best zero torque putter or how they achieve it. All i know is this putter feels incredibly stable and it doesnt work against you natural path, its a funny feeling but it just works and has improved my putting. Im sure the LAB putters are equally as good, but for me i didnt get on with it.
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 День назад
Yeah distance control can be a thing with our stuff at first because of the ACTUAL absence of torque. Not saying that to be snarky but its a reality of physics and its effect on bio mechanics. Quite easy fixes if you'd ever like to try again. Hit me up anytime. Glad you are enjoying your new putter. Generally when we balance putters like the PXG (we do sometimes upon special request) people end up pulling putts after the honeymoon as you see with Backstryke or Axis 1. And FWIW, the only reason I have bothered to engage is their marketing claims which any way you cut it, are false. Its not a zero torque putter and if they'd simply offered it as what it is and talked about the benefits of toe up putters that open and then close, have at it. But they are being pretty deliberate about using our language and even using a very skewed device to justify using the language. Doesn't sit great with me...

Only tiny problem would be the paint job with all these razor-like edges, I have specs of aluminum showing through the 'Adam Scott 2023' blue, but with these edges I am pretty sure it can't be helped. Must leave headcover on at all times while in the bag, I found that out after round #1. But to be fair, I have never owned a putter where the paint held on even if it had all rounded edges. The L.A.B "technology" is very simple maths and physics. It is very hard to work out how they can justify $399 for their cheapest club. I made my own torque free club for $40 of materials (including head material, shaft and grip) and about 2 hours of my time, say $30/hour - all up cost $100 It worked perfectly! You would be a mug to pay $400+ for one of these putters.

Thats amazing you've done it for so cheap. Insurance, labor, rent, marketing, tour staff, comps, travel, legal frees, start up costs, equipment, inventory holding, research and development, training, eccom expenses, consulting fees, and on and on. We really do our best to keep the cost's down. I assure you our cost per putter is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than our competitors charging the same price. No gouging my man. I promise. @@samhahn6950Sam, being a Production Engineer for 45 years means I know how to make products for a price and cut out all the waste (you list a lot of wastes in your list of costs). I also know how to simplify engineering products but keep all the benefits, unfortunately you have made your putter far too sexy with all the curves and cut outs to make them attractive to the gullible who only think it’s good if it looks complicated, but that puts up the price dramatically. The key properties are the relationship of the club face to the shaft and the mass of the head - everything else is window dressing! Simple is best - cheaper and less to go wrong i.e. the old wooden and spring mouse trap. My Mk.1 was a clunky aluminium beast to prove my theory - it worked better than expected, so much so that it replaced my traditional blade type putter in my bag and so far, has reduced my putts by 3-5 per round - early days. So further models to refine my design are in hand, but they will be metal composites which unfortunately will push up my material costs, but will make manufacture easier and produce a more refined putter. Sorry no photos as I don’t want my innovations appearing on commercial products.

Sam, why do you need to have screws (I think the technical term is balance weights) to adjust your clubs - I thought you said you had spent a long time calculating and designing the heads to balance and allow for things like shafts etc. or do you just have a poor manufacturing process which is out of control, or the design and concept are just wrong? No screws needed in my design - balanced first time! As for the expenses which are a waste, well you claim to be the businessman, you work it out - I will just say the term “no value added”. Just saw this video and I'm not sure what's going on between PXG and L.A.B., but here's the deal: "Torque" is simply the force that causes rotation. We don't putt with devices; we use our hands. Some pros use small muscles, others use large, some prefer an arched stroke, while others believe in straight back and through. Brad Faxon likes an open-to-close path, and Tiger dominated with a blade Scotty Cameron. The key for top putters is the point of impact: is the face square, the ball rolling end over end, and on the right line with the right speed? That's what counts. All this talk about torque or no torque is nonsense. Find a putter that feels good and helps you make putts, but if you're not practicing regularly, none of it matters. If you're not averaging 27-29 putts per round, figure it out-it's either the pilot or the plane. I don’t endorse any specific putter-just find the one that fits your style.

I was a better putter with a tiny Bullseye blade when I was younger than I am now with anything else. And I play and practice more now. My dexterity was far better in my youth and I therefore was a better putter. So yes technique and understanding your stroke trumps equipment.

That's the way to kick PXG in the nuts. Just can't a LAB putter. But I am curious to know about the prototypes in the back ground. Keep up the good work.

Have you put the honu putter in the revealer? I had heard it was also lie angle balanced putter.

It seems the availability of technology isn't always the deciding factor if accessing it is challenging. I lived in Denmark and have struggled to get fitted for a L.A.B putter due to my location, which is far from the only store that offers it. Despite my belief in L.A.B's superior technology, I've decided to purchase a PXG Allan putter instead, which is available at the same price. This way, I can move on from my old putter, which I've been eager to replace.

Have you “LAB” golf checked out “Honu” putters? They cannot mass produce because of their craftsmanship, but they are supposed to be torque free like “LAB” as well.
@theCycleReport

So would you still suggest that the Odyssey toe-up and/or backstryke as a better downgrade from a L.A.B.?
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 3 дня назад
I think this is probably the best of the torquing toe up putters but mostly subjective. I would imagine given the size this one is more forgiving.

Interesting on how they are measuring torque, could this be on how a person adds torque, where as you do it based on the putter in a free motion?!

Does the angle of the shaft and the grip not benefit from the way your revealer is setup? In simple terms, if I put something on an angle, it will have less movement already to begin with against two anchor points which are located in a straight line?
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 5 дней назад
No impact. The putters are balanced on the shaft axis.

Is there no way to make the head of these type of putters smaller? Personally, I find the heads are so big and somewhat distracting. I use an old Odyssey P9 and that’s as big as I can tolerate.
@seancondon2097

Left hand is higher when he swings the PXG and he breaks his lead wrist. The only thing this shows is he can make it twist. In first pxg tested hands start even, then the adjusts hand when he picks up the Axis putter, then after that his left hand is higher than the right to manipulate the path.
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 2 дня назад
Good lord. To a certain extent, I can understand being skeptical but c'mon. I did not manipulate this test in any way shape or form. There are revealers available all over. I'd encourage you to try for yourself.

Ofcourse you are the expert, but is it possible the screw or cork/screw is not exactly dead center and hence causing the 🐠 fish swim motion on the PXG?
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 3 дня назад
No, the screw goes right into the vent, which is dead center of the shaft axis. The other two went right into the vent without the cork.

I want to try a DF3, but am no where near a place that I can test out different styles, lengths, etc. Can I use current putter specs for a LAB? Say I find one for a decent price and want to cut it from 35 to 33.5, will that mess up it's balance?

Cutting it should be ok. Changing the grip might not be. btw you can send to LAB and they'll rebalance it for you I think for $100.

So am I tripping or does it look like he's manipulating the putting stroke when he puts in the PXG putter. When he does his own putter, he's straight back straight thru. When he does the PXG putter, he moves it. Could be an optical illusion, but do it again with a down the line view please, so we can see that you are making the same stroke or motion. I've looked, I can't find a down the line view of other putters tested in the "revealer". Is there a reason for this? I like LAB and have been looking into getting one, but this concerns me a little.
@samhahn6950
@samhahn6950 День назад
I definitely not screwing around with the revealer. I would never hinge our success on trying to fool people! It was also suggested I am swinging it too fast. Making a video where I hit putts with the revealer so people can see. The allan starts torquing around 5 feet.

Really wasn’t that fast. We’ll have a video up soon hitting actual putts with it in a revealer on a green. About 8-10’ it’ll start to over rotate. And either way, it doesn’t bug you that they advertise it as torque free when obviously it isn’t?

Not likely since all of our putters need to be hand balanced in order to achieve what we do. What’s really unimpressive is Pxg charging the same as our stock models despite a literal fraction labor. I’d be curious to know how they justify that

You just want it sitting nice and flush comfortably since the putters can’t be adjusted after they’re built for the most part

Are there any plans to have a more conventional head, or does the technology dictate the head shape?

The DF3 is their latest attempt to make a less goofy full mallet. The Link.1 is a very conventional blade shape but you give up a lot of forgiveness for aesthetics.
