It always brightens my day when there's a new DO'D video to watch, especially when it's cloudy here in NZ. Glad to see that the GTi can be used for DSOs, I have the earlier model and have hardly used it, but really should....
My AT80EDT went after NGC 4395. F4.8 with reducer. Small scopes can bag faint targets. Doing narrowband with cheaper doublets is a great way to get more value from them, or just rgb without l.
The Synscan app, and 3 star alignment still require an accurate PA. I find asiair indispensable. You only need a rough PA with compas, and electronic protractor. Don't need to see Polaris for northerners or whatever you guys down under do! Then do "ALL SKY POLAR ALIGNMENT ". like I've said too many times, if set up, 20 minutes from out the door, to imaging. LOSTEN, the clutches when moving a loaded mount, this is a budget mount.
I'm wondering about the weight limit. You're pretty close it seems. My Payload also got quite heavy with my new camera and guide scope. Maybe it's time for a new mount.
Mate…I can’t thank you enough for sharing this life changing video! I haven’t seen a clear night in four months so this is gonna be my new passion 🕺🏻 I’m on Amazon ordering my Spandex tights as we speak!
Never had any problems! I assume both apps use the same compass sensor so results are similar anyway, but sky guide knows about J2000 and precession so it's going to show me celestial south today, not magnetic south, and celestial south is what I really want :)
Have you seen the Askar FMA180 Pro scope. Now, that's tiny!!!. The SA GTI wouldn't even know it had one on itself. Ultrawide field. Nice price as well. Easier on the hip pocket nerve than the EvoStar 82.
I bought the gti as an upgrade to the SA 1 in order to dither my images. I don't have a guider nor a computer because I want to keep my gear small and portable. Does anyone know how I can dither without a lot of gear and cables coming with it? The SA 2 app has it built right into the app, it's a shame the GTi doesn't have that.
I didn't realize there was such a price discrepancy, $740 in USA, for mount with tripod/pier. For me, combine this with a ZWO ASIAIR and "watch the magic happen"! Best investments afforded to me by this hobby.
Omg Dylan, please remove that protect cap from the focuser knob😀 i made the same thing once, and i just wondered why it has a drilling noise 😀 anyway great vid, greetings from Hungary. (Also i had the same comment i think one time 😂)
Gday, you should get those purple stars a bit better by removing the green on the inverted image. But you probably know this, right ? Keep flexing & stretching !
Pretty good nice sharp results, but man is it criminal to call a doublet like that "Apochromatic" with those blue/purple halos around the bright stars...
Went with the cartoon fart 💨 ?? 😂 Seriously though great vid, I have the gti and would love to see you hook it up with an asi air plus (or I need to learn NINA 😂) Cheer Si
Small but perfectly formed I says. 😜🤪😜How's the new Gat working out Buddy, shredding it till the fingers bleed ?? P.S Hey being a bit of a Celestron man, can you also get your hands on what looks to be a very very small form factor "Celestron StarSense Autoguider" and put it through its paces for us, cus I spent all my bloody money on buying Vintage Amps 'n' Guitars and the budget now only allows for running a dinosaur 🦖 SE8. I want to take some fancy snaps of the stars cus the old eyes aren't seeing what they use to anymore. And the joy of visual is waning and getting frustrating as all hell. Bugger we are all going to Die, Who gets the Gats then??? LoL Regards Kris . P.S Wow ya should have seen the Omega Cluster last night here in Auckland NZ now thats worth selling the Strat for.😭😭😭Bigger equals = Better Baby ( my new Tagline..... )
@@DylanODonnell Intonation all sorted then, Sweet .... there is nothing like owning a new Gat to get you all fired up about playing again. Neil Finn let me have a go on his stunning handpicked Art series Maton ( Yes you Aussies are good for some things) and it's going to be my next Guitar when I get the dosh, might have to put the StarSense Autoguider on hold, maybe sell my 10 yr old to pay for it. How much does a kid go for on the dark Web these days ?? 😳😳😳
Btw my wife says size does matter. So I'm screwed. Actually, I'm not screwed, would be the accurate statement here. Knew I shouldnt have settled with only 6 inches. Then I reminded her that that is 6 " around, not lengthwise. Her tune changed immediately. Now I'm definitely not getting screwed. There was at least hope prior to this whole thing. Wish I had never watched this video......lol
This thing is junk, IMO. I went through three of them. The worst backlash I've ever seen. The thread on Cloudy Nights showing how so many people have to tweak things to get decent performance tells us how much effort SW put into QC on this mount. Saved up my pennies and went for the admittedly more expensive AM5. Sorry Dylan, I wouldn't recommend this one at all (I know we all have different experiences though!)
6:20 Thank you so much! That needed to get out of the system. Don't try to make a fake epic story out of sitting near your telescope every time *lookingToACertainBackyardInCanada
I was carrying my GTi out fully assembled(total Chad), and it introduced some backlash in the RA eventually. I have to make multiple trips again, but it’s a super fast setup. I love it! Great video as always, and shred on! 🎸
Love the guitar addition dude! I play guitar also and always wanted to combine astronomy and my guitar somehow in my videos... this gives me some good ideas! Thanks brother@😊
For the 3 point polar alignment the game changer for me was putting some marks on my pier (done after an imaging session where it was already aligned). Gets you with within a whisker of alignment from the get go.
I want to buy this mount as my first go-to.. isnt this scope a bit too heavy for this mount ? Because all i see is people using the redcat51 or max a 61 refractor.. how is your mount handling it ? Exposure time with and without guiding.. thank you
@@555rzk I have one of the GTi, I think a ~72mm class refractor is about the reasonable limit. I've done a 60mm petzval ( quite heavy for size, about 40% more than a typical 60), and unless it's a real good night my guiding gets a touch loose at the higher weights. With a modest setup this thing does super well.
Excellent video Dylan! Always impressed by all the crazy video editing you do. On the mount Sync error, you are right, EQMOD (which I assume is what you were using?) will reject a sync if it's too far from where it thinks the mount is pointing, which can occur with very poor PA. NINA will in that case order the mount to move to compensate (without requiring the mount to sync), but that means where the mount thinks it's pointing and where NINA knows it is pointing are completely out of sync. This will lead in 99% of cases to a failure to perform a Meridian flip. Two potential fixes: - Better PA :D - Use Green Swamp Server instead of EQMOD. If you were not using EQMOD, please ignore everything I wrote above :)
Hey thanks Cuiv! Thanks for confirming my intuition! That error just disappeared once PA was closer so I figured that was the case. I tried green swamp once and I couldn’t get it to work so I gave up :) I’ll try again one day! And thanks re editing style .. my secret is to not know what I’m doing so everything feels very random and odd!
ATTN DYLAN: So if you did in fact lie then this would be false imprisonment. ? It was either a planet/rock in outer space or it wasnt. Psych wise, and in general then if not as claimed this would be a test site, the hills have eyes on the inside since people look normal but would be sincerely demented. Im just secretly wondering, a dread. Anyone could handle cosmic even if crazy but there would be no tolerating humans, who could handle that? No one.
I did throw out a lot of frames but mostly because I had no vibration suppression. I’m surprised it did as well as it did. I did a 60 min exposure at one point. It worked, but I got dewed out during it.
Got the GTi and a new to me Evolux62ED, very similar! No guiding yet though. Maybe at some point I'll upgrade to guiding and the 82ED, if the GTi holds up. We'll see... Wouldn't mind to get a mount with a higher capacity though.
lol at that wide fov a bit of forgiveness. FROM WHOM???!!! I have the FRA400 w/reducer sitting with the asi2600mm, 7 pos filterwheel, eaf, asiair along with guide scope and cam on the eq6r if my guiding is above .6 I'm wondering how much better could I balance or polar align (especially when you get it to 0) Very nice image from a little set up and very little data, naughty OSC cheat.. Great Vid as always sir!
Beautiful and helpful video! Finally an excellent budget setup for visual astronomy!! You saved me heaps!! (except for the cybertruck that was a tad too expensive.. )
Good morning Dylan. You can thank me later for inspiring you to this video with my last comment on the dome 🤷🏻♂️🤩🤣. Seriously, great picture and the video / editing entertaining as always 👍! My best picture so far with the CGi was with the Celestron 6‘‘-SC on top and my daily dslr. I pointed at M81 and 81 a few months ago. Still today it kind of shocks me looking at the picture knowing the times and distances and the simplicity of my setup. Cheers from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Love your videos. If US$4.5k is "inexpensive" to you then you are pretty lucky. I've been watching you and a few others for many months now to get some tips before I buy stuff and I'm increasingly discovering that this is a hobby for people with good disposable income!
I'm never going to get into astrophotography, can't understand how you get the results that you do, but find you videos just so professional ,slick and entertaining. The only thing I own the same as you is an Ibanez. Keep them rolling Dylan.😂😂
I Didnt Know They Could Handle That Much Weight,Damn..I Coulve Went With A Smaller Mount,Cause The Eqm35 Pro Isnt Exacly As Portable As SW Wants You To Believe,Beautiful Image❤,Have A Great Day,Clear Skies❤️🙏🏻🌏🔭✨
Eqm35 is as portable as heq5, which is not really as portable as a startracker. Maybe in the AP mode but who'd even try that? Yeah, in this hobby it helps if you can cut through marketing bs before spending money. I got my eqm35 as an even cheaper heq5 with actually great performance (after many hours of tuning it). But from the get go it was meant to be just a backyard driver, occassionally taken to the dark site. Never though about air travel with it.
