As someone who has worked at a co op grocery store , believe me you be seeing the bugs. It’s good to wash your fruits and vegetables just because of handling/dirt and dust alone. You WILL sometimes see small tiny bugs but TikTok has blown it out of proportion.
Baking soda actually cleans fruit really well. Especially leafy greens like cabbage that can hold pesticide residue and other "contaminants" like dust and grime :D
They forgot in the tiktok videos they added baking soda. The baking soda is really important to bring the bugs out. They totally messed up the experiment.
I've been eating strawberries straight from my garden for years and never have I gotten sick from them, when I say straight from the garden I really mean that I pick them, wipe on my shirt and eat.
@@Manicanian a lot of spiders (I noticed at least). Kind of like making the little whole is picked raspberries their home. I have a few canes at home and when I pick our fruit if I leave them out for a while sometimes one crawls in them hahaha.
You will get small bugs with freshly picked wild berries. Just wash them off with some water and you'll be fine. A little extra protein won't hurt you lol
As someone who lives on a farm, you want bugs in your fruit. I know that sounds odd. But animals are honestly way smarter than humans. If a bug isnt touching food you leave outside, there is a reason for that. (Think of McDonalds not decaying for decades) Also, if you want to know if water is safe to drink, see if a cat will drink it. They are super smart and have a natural sense of what water is dangerous or not. Rats also know which direction to go if a storm is coming. If you live in a flood area such as us, and animals start acting strange or all start leaving, you better get out of there too.
Animals merely have senses that we humans do not. Just because we do not have those senses does not make us dumber, their capability of observation is stronger than we have at our disposal. And for every sense that we lack, we have developed technology that mimics, or even outperforms those same senses that animals have. It is our ability to utilize that technology that makes us far better than any other organism could ever hope to achieve... and there isn't a single organism other than humans that are even capable of understanding such potential.
I work in a produce department for a high end grocery store. The bugs are definitely there a lot of the time. Though the bugs usually aren't that big of an issue, you should still wash your produce mostly because of possible e-coli contamination
The bugs definitely exist in grocery store produce, but the more likely explanation for not seeing them is that the bugs that managed to survive the trip to the store, are tossed alongside the products they were on once the produce clerks see them. And if that isn't enough, they die in the cooler. At least in my produce department, the only bugs you'll find are the fruit flies, which are inevitable, the ladybugs that hide in the grapes as we don't clean them (stop taste-testing them for this exact reason, and they're sold by the pound you animals. You wouldn't taste-test an apple), and the little ones that sit deep in cabbage, lettuce, and bok choy leaves that we couldn't manage to clean out, although they are dead af.
one of the reasons why i hated growing my own cabbages and only did it once before rotating to a diff crop; i couldn't stand the spiders that used to skitter out of every nook and cranny between the leaves whenever i'd water the garden and get them wet 🫠 credit where credits due, however, they're massively beneficial at keeping other populations of garden pests under control, so if u can stomach them (unlike me) then any spider is a welcome addition to a vegetable patch 🤗🥬🥕
Vinegar water washes are good for removing mold spores or bacteria from fruit and veggies so they don't spoil as fast when you put them away, and the smell/taste of vinegar fades pretty quickly after drying them off. It will also remove bugs if there are any, but it isn't nearly as common as those videos make it seem. They're just making people worry about a non-issue for clicks.
I'm really surprised that neither Matt or Charles has a microscope. If I was wealthy that'd be like the 1st thing I bought after I got a rich mahogany carved model air plane.
As a food service professional. I've had many instances where lady bugs or green leafy like Beatles survive the washing packaging and shipping process. mainly greens like spinach or lettuce variants. One time, a red hornet popped out of a bag of spring mix lettuce. Those are the only times I've seen bugs in produce.
The opening about washing fruits reminds me when it was shown, a while ago, that using that "technique" to "clean" your fruit was almost no different (efficiency wise) than actually just rinsing it (you know, putting the fruits and veggies in a bowl, running water into it, rummaging around, pouring out water and repeating that once or twice). So seeing people doing it again and again online for store bought fruits is hilarious. People online will follow any trend as long as other people are doing it (remember tide pods?)
@@androart1817 When you rinse you basically soak it too. And insects in store bought foods is incredibly unlikely in the first place. I mainly rinse or even wash stuff because it's not the insects that worry me, it's other people's grubby hands and noses... They'll grab fruit, touch them all over, sniff them and then put them back (most people legit barely even know what they are doing when doing this, they just copy other people). That's what I want to clean off lol Hell, during peak covid a few years back I remember a person lowering their mask and sniffing all over some fruits... Most people have no common sense and many barely even know how to adequately wash their hands. I'm more worried about other people than insects.
@@GravitasZero oh well yea I’m not talking about store bought. I usually don’t wash those at all because I’m not a germaphobe Edit: I don't really buy loose fruit I mean stuff in punnets and packaging sorry I only read half the reply 😅
@@androart1817 I don't buy loose fruits anymore in stores either (or very few), I don't trust my fellow human enough anymore to do that 😅 Edit: Have seen enough people go into the toilets and come back out without washing their hands to transform me into a "germaphobe". At this point it's not even being a germaphobe anymore, it's just that i'd rather not come into contact with the feces and other goops from other people haha
imo, Charlie has not addressed Mr. Beast bc the drama is still unfolding. we don't have all of the info yet. Also, Mr. Beast has not addressed it directly. There's a lot of damning evidence but people are ignoring the fact that there could be real consequences for Charlie if he gets info wrong, or if he premeditatively 'defames' and then gets sued by the team, because yes, Mr. Beast does have the money for that and is already actively engaging in erasure of evidence. This isn't taking down a small or medium scale public figure who won't retaliate. Mr. Beast has met with Elon Musk. He's done worldwide 'charity' projects & has a lot of influence. We're also ignoring the possibility he signed a NDA. In which case, his hands are tied.
@@user-kd3tt5lr6mgood opinion. I think it’s important to look at it objectively. That being said, there’s some benefit of the doubt you are granting him cause it hasn’t been his M. O. historically… I think it’s unlikely he has an NDA cause Ludwig would likely have one too as they were in the same video with Jim. I think a lot of the frustration you’re seeing with Charlie from his fans is because of the benefit of the doubt part that he is granting to Jim. People find it to be hypocritical that, now because he may have things at stake personally, he is approaching his coverage differently.
@@oneeyedjack1812exactly. He said he is not keen on doing drama videos anymore and has been uploading other stuff. I'm all for this. There are enough channels covering dramas already. No need for more people repeating the exact same thing. I just want to watch what caused the cake stuff in 2 weeks on the other channel
@@JC_923 right that’s all fair but for him to have this epiphany now, the timing is at best convenient and at worst suspicious. Looking at it objectively, saying otherwise would be disingenuous…. But time will tell. I just find the whole situation to be fascinating, that’s all.
there’s bugs if you buy it straight from a farm or in bulk, you wont find bugs in supermarket fruits, at least in my experience edit: the bots are bugging out
honestly eating these "bugs" isn't a bad thing. If you drink water it's also filled with living things. Not to do the whole appeal to nature stuff but that's kinda what our digestive track evolved to be able to take care of?
bro. I get what youre trying to say here but, not everyone have your perspective. If you think eating "bugs" are equivilant to drinking "water" WHO ON GODS NAME WOULD PREFER EATING ROACHES OVER DRINKING WATER 😭
Calling anything born from TikTok 'science' is either an insult to even the lowest caliber of logic and reasoning (let alone human intelligence), or pretty accurate. There is no in between.
Finally! I can watch another Charlie and the Chocolate Factory video to keep my mind off of the miserable existence that we all live in on this unfair and godforsaken corporeal realm of a space rock that exists within the 3-dimensional plane we call Earth.
my sister got strawberries from the store and put baking soda and vinger in a bowl with them and let it sit for a bit and what came out of those strawberries made me VOW to NEVER eat a straight strawberry ever again without it being cleaned the same way she did it... i didnt believe it was real until she did this so i am actually SHOCKED u had no bugs come out of anything
As someone with raspberry bushes in their backyard, I can confirm it works! It does also work with just water, but the purpose of the vinegar is to slow/halt any growth of mold. It will keep your berries fresh longer. Obviously give them a rinse afterwards so they don’t smell or taste of vinegar, but it really does help.
It is generally a good idea to soak fresh fruit/vegetables in either salt water or a solution of vinegar and water. Trust me, you only forget to soak your homegrown broccoli one time... You *wouldn't believe* how many worms get up in that shit!
@AvaTysonWon I've reported all of your comments for spam and I've filed a complaint against your channel for being a spam robot. I sincerely hope you get deleted.
We grow our own fruit and we do this. After we pick the fruit off, we put it in a bowl of water with baking soda and vinegar. I've personally never seen bugs, but it's safer.
This does wonders for the fruits staying good for longer. The bugs aside, I’ve started washing all fruits when I get home in diluted vinegar and water, wiping out the containers with vinegar, and drying them all. My blueberries and strawberry’s felt like they went bad or got moldy in days after getting them. Now they last for a couple weeks/ have not gotten any mold before I finish them.
my grandma did some TikTok fruit science once. not sure what she did exactly but after an hour or so of science, she brought back the cucumber and we had it for dinner. tasted a little funny but I’m guessing it was from the science
I once saw one of those videos where they zoom into fruit and it was like "look at these bugs, you can't see them with the naked eye" but the worms were bigger than the tip of the twizzer, or the size of the seeds on a strawberry...
Could be multiple reasons. maybe he's waiting until mrbeast makes a response. maybe he is actively working on a video. maybe he signed an NDA at one point and he can't say anything about it or maybe he was paid off we'll never know lol.
He isn't going to cover drama content and shit anymore after the sneako shit and people either misunderstanding him or twisting his words to fit a narrative
He was harassed and insulted after the Sneako situation with people flooding his inbox calling him a pdf and shit like that, it seems to have worn him down so he said he was stepping away from RU-vidr drama
@@CorinthianLawright which is understandable considering mental health stuff but good luck expecting the internet not to troll him, especially after he’s made a lot of money clowning on people.
You must be a child. He clearly said: 'I dont want to do drama content anymore because it makes me feel chronically online' Respect the mans wishes. Go watch someone else.
@@oneeyedjack1812 well while you can’t use chronically online to just run away when you get heat, I will respect the man’s wishes At some point alienating audience creates ‘chronically online’ nature and at what point does a drama become a serious situation
For anyone who wants to know - there's certainly bugs there. Fruits and vegetables are full of bugs, most of them are really hard to notice because of things like: size, colour and other reasons. In Judaism it is very important to not eat bugs, and so Kosher vegetables and fruits have been much more seriously inspected and cured of bugs than regular ones. Kosher companies can sometimes throw entire stocks of fruits and vegetables because they discovered bugs in inspections. In many cases you would still need wash it very well, but in general if you want a more bug free product - Kosher ones will do you good. They are more expensive though.
