Pam you're gonna have one hell of a run.. Houston, Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, Odessa/Midland, Ft. Worth/Dallas and Amarillo.. Don't forget the Beef Brisket and Beef Ribs. Read up on it and Good Luck!!
The Big Texan! Seriously! I've only eaten there once so I only have that experience. The steak was cooked terrible and my sons was even worse. The waiter thought that it would be funny to be very sarcastic bordering on rude. Just a HORRENDOUS experience. I never recommend this place to anyone and I certainly won't be going back either. Perini is top notch!
2 year old comment but I agree, my experience at The Big Texan was mediocre at best. The touristy part was fun in its way sure, but the actual steak was good, not great, and I’ve had better in Texas for sure.
I'm sorry but "The Big Texan" is #1. This was described to me as a tourist trap and that is exactly what it is. The steak is tough, the sides are tasteless, and good luck not breathing in cigarette smoke your entire meal. I have had bad meals that were better then this place.
This people don't know anything, the big Texan is crap, where you can find the best steak in Texas, and probably America, is Cattleman's Steakhouse, out in Fabens Texas,( outside El Paso).
I have not been to Big Texan and I have yet to find a steak beit T-bone, Ribeye, or Porterhouse from a resturant that beats my steaks that come off my pit! Bar-none!
I'd have to agree w/ you. It's a cool place for tourists to stop, what w/ the Texas motif, but the food? Ehhhh. There are better steak houses in Amarillo and some of the surrounding towns. I guess people voted for it because of the 72 oz. steak gimmick.
Is the Lowake Inn still there too? I was always amazed at two of the best steakhouses you could ever want a mile or two apart in the middle of nowhere.
Hello, my name is Sandra from Germany. I'm looking for a job in Texas as a cleaner or dishwasher. Can someone help me? My son and I want to live in Texas forever. Best regards Sandra from Germany
The best steakhouse in Texas is at the OL’ Steakhouse Co. in Corpus Christi, Texas if you’ve never been there then you should go try it if you’ve been there then you already know.
The Texan steakhouse in Amarillo is absolutely terrible. We ordered a 28 oz steak and it had so much grizzle in it that I never got one bite of it, just chewed and chewed and spit it out. We called the manager who came over and said they try not to get that kind of meat, then left without getting us a different piece or taking it off our bill. We will NEVER be back, and will make sure others know to avoid it, too.
My newphew ate at the Big Texan he said it was one of the worst steaks he had ever ordered anywhere he said he has had way better steaks from chain restaurants now thats sad.
I would go to no.3 or 2 before the big Texan, I've been to the big Texan quite a few times and it seems it's more a tourist trap than steak house anymore ,I'm not saying thier steaks aren't good thier just not the best
Wow! I have been to Big Texan and Perini in Buffalo Gap. Perini is very good and could rate #3. No way Big Texan is #1. It might not even be in Top 10. Texas Restaurant in Richardson, Texas, AL Biernat in Dallas, and Del Frisco's are all better than Big Texan.
Big Texan isn't the Best even in Amarillo! But the feed lots and Major beef processors are close by. So the meat is definitely fresh and steak is well prepared though. grew up watching Bob thanks for the memories.
Mine 20 something ounce steak was so full of grizzle I chewed and chewed and then spat it out. The manager said, oh, well, they try not to buy that kind of meat and walked off without replacing it or taking it off the bill. Never, ever go here!! I can't remember how much that steak was, but it wasn't cheap. We were out that money.
Man, do I agree with that. My big steak was so full of grizzle not a bite could be eaten. The manager just walked away from us!! Do NOT go to The Big Texan. It is aweful.
I've had a lot of great steaks in Tx. That said, if you want the best steak (best meal) of your life, head west to the original Hitching Post in Casmalia Ca. Worth the plane trip. I guarantee it!
