Talked to Adam and got permission to record his full set while playing a show in my town. Hes one of my favorite drummers and this video shows why. Please Subscribe to my channel for great live drum content.
Adam Gray be fucking killing it on the kit and getting all the style points too. I’m still watching this in 2021, forever grateful for the uploads of this set.
Adam seriously looks like a fucking machine when he drums, its so sick, his style is just so damn tight and smooth and every motion is exact and amazing lol
for this song I really love the drum from 0:08 to 0:43 . always love bands who have this similar beat in a song. uUUGGHH! this amazing band is over with tours...wish they did another one. Now I will never have the chance to see them and bang my head so hard and jam ;-; love you TIJ!
He does exactly what my band does live. Has the tracks on his iPod with just click in one ear and guitars, bass drops, and everything else in the other. They run his iPod through the mini board and use a splitter and have only the right or left sound (whichever they prefer having the bass and guitars on) coming out of the monitors, that way no one in the crowd hears the click.
It's the backing track Most bands play to backing tracks, and the tracks will be on that ipod. The back tracks will generally just contain stuff like, bass drops, reverse snares, reverse snares and other extra things that are in the song that aren't instruments.
It's most likely an in ear monitor. So he can ear the guitars and the vocals. It's quite hard to hear everyone when you're behind a kit. Some drummers listen to a "Click" which is what it sounds like. It's a click to the tempo of the song, that way he doesn't speed up or slow down. It also could be the actual recording of the song that they recorded, and he's drumming along too. I've seen various drummers use one those tactics while drumming. It makes live drumming so much easier.
he has his ipod hooked up to something like a mixer where him and everybody else have they're in ear monitors. so he has the songs playing in his headphones i believe. or it mite just be for the bass drops
no cuz with that he can chose what he wants to hear louder or less louder: bass, guitar, vocals.. While the sound board is for the sound of the speakers what the crowd hears. + he needs to blend in his clicktrack
honestly both kits were almost 100% the same on the outside, and even closer when it comes to the shells used (all from Keller). Sonically, its the exact same. unless he is tuning differently. but i think it's just a phone camera.
How can a young drummer play like that?!? It's like he and the drums are one symbiotic organism. Does he drink psilocybin tea and play for 12 hours a day or something? Jesus..
Mine too. I've been digging technical dudes like Johnny Rabb and Benny Greb, but if im in the mood to watch an entertaining, technique crazy powerhouse, hes my guy. Love the flips, twirls, showmanship too. The grammar in this sucks. Mys badz.
For those who think Adam is using backing tracks. He is using a metronome mixed with the set list of their songs. I know this for sure. But why have the song play when you need to rehearse the whole show? That makes rehearsal pointless.
In a cheaper version of in ears he’s using. Don’t know why people are freaking out about it. But as for why have the song play? He’s behind a set and cannot clearly hear who’s playing and he’s just using an iPod with a mixer instead of regular ears. Literally everyone who plays live does a version of this
I think everyone's heads are wired to the mixer so the entire band can hear what everyone else is playing. no idea what his ipod would be there for lol
Kinda odd... I think Adam could outplay Matt Greiner but there's no denying that August Burns Red is way more popular than Texas in July. Nothing bad about it. Just interesting
They probably don't have enough funding to afford In Ears with click tracks. I'm assuming, so he probably has the song playing with a click on his IPod
Adam is an amazing player, but honestly the stuff Matt plays is WAY more complex. Almost all of abr's new stuff has so many different time signatures its crazy. Adam is a great player i just wish that texas in july would write more music that is more complex.
Adam may technically be better, but that's because the music the band writes as a whole calls for different composition on drums. Not all songs have to be fast and technical, Matt writes parts that fit better with abr's style of music, rather than trying to just rip fast double bass and quick fills here and there. Why not just appreciate both drummer for how they write music. They aren't the same person and they're not
