Why doesn't she explain to us the surgeries and the injuries that these people sustained? If she is a trauma surgeon why doesn't she talk about the things she performed? You can never be prepared for a real accident or a life-threatening event!!! The doctor said it they were bringing those patients in way later so just let them bleed out? Instead we're going to take plasma to the school? I don't care who you are what you think my logic tells me a lot of BS!!! I give that doctor all the respect in the world figure out if you spell your name with the middle initial F or not!!! Is that too much to ask?

It wasnt because he asked how she was holding up. As a medical professional, we can talk about trauma and injury and patients all day... but when he asked about the families... that makes our "patient" a "person" and it's the empathy for the families that breaks our guard. I can talk about patients and injuries and procedures all day... but seeing family members/parents and their grief tears me up everytime. You can see, when she stops talking about the families, she gets right back into business mode. The tears where tears of empathy.

I don't know how Americans deal with this, how do they send their kids to school without fearing the worst or going to the mall even? 😢❤ Medical staff like these are people I admire not some silly actor or singer. What I find chilling (not coming from a country where we ever had a mass school shooting) is the way she said how well prepared "We will be for the next one". That’s also what caught my ear (not from the US either). She talks about it like it’s a natural disaster where you can only prepare to minimise the damage of the outcome - not like it’s literally a man-made problem. But, as horrifying as it is, she is right: nothing will change in the near future and this will happen again and again and again and again and again... She just wants to do the absolute best that she can do where she’s at. WHAT A HERO!

not only that, but it was a prior shooting that meant they had the tools in place ready for this one. that's three layers of mass shootings that she's thinking about, all in one interview, without blinking or wavering. The Brookings Institute recently released a report that showed parents, both liberals and conservatives, are more worried about their sons’ futures than their daughters’. Our boys are not okay. Moms are worried about how this new world we’re living in will treat their boys today and in the decades to come. I often wonder how things might be different if, 20 years ago, society had listened to the Factual Feminist Christina Hoff Sommers when she warned the public in her book, The War Against Boys, that there was indeed a war against boys and we’re leaving our boys behind to our own detriment. Rather than take her warnings seriously, she was accused of being a “Bootlicker of the Patriarchy” by feminists. But Sommers was right, and sadly, because society continues to turn a blind eye to the issue, the problem has only gotten worse. Parents are more worried about their sons’ futures than their daughters’. In our zeal to empower girls, we have left our boys behind...for decades. Because we want to get more women into the top roles in society, we have ignored the peril of young males’ decline. We’re seeing the repercussions today. In addition to watching our boys fail while pushing girls ahead, there has been a mainstream anti-male propaganda campaign taking place, essentially shaming and blaming boys and their masculinity. They’re just defective girls. They’re inherently monsters. They must change to be acceptable in our modern-day society. You might be thinking, “A boy crisis?! What are they talking about? Look at all the men at the top. Boys are doing just fine!” That’s the mainstream mentality, but when you stop to actually think about it, it’s absolutely ridiculous. There may be more men at the top of society, but that doesn’t mean boys and men are doing “just fine” everywhere else or that we should ignore the issues that affect them. Boys are struggling. Boys Are Falling Behind Girls in School Boys have fallen far behind girls academically. Our school system increasingly favors female traits and doesn’t respect boys’ unique style of learning, which only leads to the expansion of the education gender gap. Research also now shows that boys are more at risk of struggling and falling behind because of remote learning during the COVID pandemic. Shouldn’t we be adequately preparing ALL children for the future? Scholarships and programs disproportionately favor girls. Research shows that 92% of sex-specific scholarships are reserved for women, when 58.6% of college students are already female, and females earn the majority of associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, AND doctorate degrees! We’re watching boys fall far behind, and rather than DO something to encourage boys, we tell them they’re “the problem” while tripling down on “girl power!”. The statistics are real. For every 100 girls, there are: 145 boys who repeat kindergarten 168 boys with communication disorders 180 boys who abuse drugs and alcohol 207 boys classified as having a learning disability 318 boys who die by overdose 237 boys diagnosed with ADHD 240 boys suspended from school 291 boys expelled from school 355 boys in public schools classified with emotional disturbance Boys over 14 are 4x more likely to die by suicide

I spent many , many years working in Emergency rooms and Intensive Care Units. A lot of tears are shed by healthcare professionals in non public areas. There are some patients and situations where your humanity cannot be controlled by your professional training. You experience the grief as well, and it stays with you. I am retired now but there are patients I still remember after many years with profound sadness. I feel Dr. Lao will be ok eventually as she moves on to save the ones who can be saved. We know you cannot save everyone...but the desire to do so is always present in you.

Yes, politicians recycle their condolences. How many more such mass shootings (God forbid) they need before bringing gun control laws? There have already been so many mass killings not to mention several other kinds.... Why is US, the only country where school is not at all safe, still pondering over taking appropriate action?
@birdy369
@birdy369 2 года назад
I mean, what could those in power actually do to TRULY FIX this kind of thing? Restrict weapon access? Sure that would give us less casualties but we would still have casualties all the same. Stopping an emotionally and mentally unwell child/adult from having easy access to a gun doesn't cure their want for one in the first place. Unless lawmakers implemented some kind of massive overhaul with the public school system, idk what could help this sort of thing from happening again and again... you really cannot rely on another kids parents to instill proper morals and beliefs into them, or expect every parent to teach their child proper emotional management, teach them about their self image and worth (lordy not in today's social media era), you honestly cannot depend upon adult parents to do their jobs in the home anymore period. The only way I see the main causes of these things getting fixed is through making sure every child is taught proper emotional and mental wellness and management at a young age. Confidence and humility, respect, pride, humble generosity... things you'd think we're common human sense and traits but they're disappearing from the young ones at an alarming rate these days... But maybe if we can show kids that emotional management and education I'm talking about, maybe then THEY can grow into proper adults that raise children with those same types of morals and sense, to turn everything around for good someday in the future; but as of right now, none of what's truly going to help solve this problem is anywhere to be found.

I've worked in a school cafeteria and you see the children on a daily basis. I can say this...every child is important and you can see their little personalities developing and it's so important for the adults around a child be encouraging and loving and not just a strict disciplinarian. I think long before a child needs mental help a caring adult can reach out and keep reaching out when they are witnessing a change in their behavior. Every child deserves to be safe and have a safe place to go to when they are in trouble physically and mentally.

Every time I go for a general check-up, I‘d ask my doctor how she‘s doing and you know she would open up once in awhile, same thing happened to two other doctors and nurses I‘ve met in the hospital. I know it is their job to make us feel better, but let us not forget they are not invincible and they also appreciate people checking on them.

I know people who wanted to be one type and realized how hard and stressful it is so they went with an easier gig with similar pay. Im not saying this specific event or scene is wanted or to be bragged about but i've seen and heard stories of doctors bragging about how raw or crazy and situation was and how ppl threw up and they barely save him or he dies. If you can't handle the heat then don't come in the kitchen. Have you ever been to the emergency room on a busy day? They treat you like just another number in and out.... NEXT!!! @@michellewhatshername5577 And i love you for that. If a person who loses faith in humanity, and asks to see where one should go to regain it. Then i would point to the medical profession everytime. Most peoples minds i believe would immediately advice to go for the church or the faith. I think to better understand faith, one needs to experience what it is beyond words. People who work for more hours straight than anyone anywhere to save another person... Or watching the depth of love that people have for one another in ways you never see in public. Then Hospitals have stories to both show and tell about that, which should humble even the worst heathen. I always found that to be the most saddening fact. That stardom and fame is where the money is generated. Rather than where it should be. Amongst our professionals in society who save lives everyday and having to deal with copious amounts of stress and personal trauma. The latter part is rarely shown, and i think not fully understood. Which is why amongst the police force you find a separate comradeship that outsiders have no insight into and don't understand. There are plenty of doctors who see therapists and in some instances they also self-medicate. A taboo which is not mentioned, because outsiders wouldn't understand. We should take care of these people just as much as they care for us.

I was an EMT for a number of years here in California, practicing both on the ambulance and in a Level 2 Trauma Center. There is a special place that should be held in high reverence for those who specialize in the medical care of children. Some people in medicine cant work with the elderly, for one reason or another. Some people, like myself, can't or could not work on children. Even though I had to in my work as an EMT, it was something that always bothered me. No one should be in hospitals, but children in particular should not be in hospitals,. They should be outside running in the grass with their friends and getting grass stains on their knees. The level of professionalism that Dr. Liao exhibited is without words. I have seen, first hand, the absolute destruction that a high velocity weapon, like an AR15, can do to an adult. I can not imagine what it can do to the body of a 10 year old. I can only imagine the mental anguish. I'm sure she went into her office after her cases were done and cried. I know I would have. Thank you to Dr. Liao and her team for an incredible effort to save as many lives as possible.

Weapons of war with high capacity and used at very close range. Their little bodies were pulverized. Nothing left to put back together plus the shock to the body from huge blood loss. You train to work on adults from the military or car wrecks. This was devastating to try fix. Internal organs and so many victims to try to repair in record time without loss further loss of life was an unreal challenge. Especially if you are a parent and if your children attended that school. 90minutes delay by law enforcement led to majority of them bleeding to death. They have no excuse and they are squirming with lies to cover themselves. Those children and teachers saved themselves. The only up about it is he is dead. He cannot hurt anyone else. However no one helped him in his time of need. Grandparents and Mom tried.Gates and Fauci caused this lockdown for two years. They are more deranged and big pharma than this guy. So D.C. about damned time to cease selling guns of war to civilians right? NRA apologize to these families and hospital staff, teachers and children? Yah. Didn't think so. Bribery and corruption. Same old same old. Money talks and you cowards walk with bulging pockets and no shame. Vultures circling with lies that you care? Save them. These children should be having ice cream, watermelon wedges, hot dogs, burgers, swimming, laughing themselves silly having fun this weekend. Empty beds, empty space at the kitchen table, empty space at the desk in school, empty seat on the school bus, no neighbor to play with no more, no daddys kisses, no mommies smiles, no pets to play tag with, no fidgeting in church, no grandparent hugs,you name it. Emptiness. Culture of death Washington. So proud of yourselves. So was satan.

I would except solutions to the problems but this country is tired of "well wishes" and "thoughts and prayers". They claim to be protecting children by pushing the overturning of Roe V Wade but you can't do anything to keep our children safe? Hypocrites. She’s wrong though. Handgun rounds are in larger calibers. Rifle rounds are in smaller calibers. People use rifles to hunt because the rounds leave smaller wounds and less damage to the meat. They don’t use them because of “kevlar deer” like “professional” Joe Biden believes. Handguns are more deadly and do more damage then rifles at close range. You are more Lilly to die from a handgun wound then a rifle wound.
