This was a great video tutorial and perhaps the easiest one to follow. The instruction sheet you used as a design reference was also very useful tip.

Laney I am watching this the next day. Have a question if you were going to use your spoil board to set your Z height is there and changes that have to be made to the thickness of the material in the set up section and do you use the same depth of cut in the toolpath set ( flat depth) clearance. I want to start to use my spoil bard to set my Z height. Very in formative video . I am amazed that you can sort of off the cuff do an in depth videos every time Thanks Jeff
@SpindleTV

Your spoilboard thickness plays no role on the job setup. Only your project board thickness.

Hey laney how are you? I watched your video many times especially the option 1 text on text. Even though you explained very well how, I did it and I am having a little problem. From 0 to lets say 0.1 depth its ok but from starting depth 0.1 to 0.1 the top portion of text its missing some edges here and there.Now if for my secont cut go from 0 to 0.2 everything looks amasing.I did this many times watching yours and Marks videos.Any ideas on what doing wrong?

Option 1 you have to start from 0.00 for the top text and bottom text. Which is why when you don't thing go wrong and when you do they look good.

I tried example 1 on a simple sign. Very easy to understand and came out great. but it did create a lot of travel on the second part of the clear that didn't actually cut anything. I would push up the feed rate during these periods, then reduce back when it started cutting again. Did I miss something, or is that just the result of this design pattern? I'm going to try part 2 now.
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 3 года назад
Excellent...part 2 there will be no wasted time cutting air due to the setup...thanks for watching

Another Question I missed the reason for the off sets of the text and the boundary boxes Jeff
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 4 года назад
The offset it based on the vbit you are using and the height you want your top and bottom text to be. Example. If i want my top text height to be 0.125 and im using a 60 degree vbit then my offset is 0.0722

In Option #3 using Aspire, if one wants to go back and make change (i.e. move the text a little) can this be done using the component that was originally created or do you have to create a whole new component of that text? I have not found a way to do so. Love your lessons!!
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 4 года назад
In my example i have 3 components, the top text , bottom text and that lower third text. If i wanted to move the top text around or even reduce its height, i can move that component , size it and in the properties i can reduce or increase shape and base height. The only time we would need to create a new component is if i wanted to change the text completely such as font type or spelling , etc ...

Great video Laney! I followed your instructions and had excellent results on the letters with the draft and rounded top. Looked great! The only issue Iam having is Iam getting a trough (Cutting to deep) at the base of my model. Any thoughts on how to correct this? Tried to sand in out but it was a little to deep to make the project look good. This trough is also showing up in the simulation. Thanks!!

Great stuff but I still don't understand why the offset. Just not getting it.
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV Год назад
Without the offset you would have a stair step from the top text to the bottom text versus a smooth sloped angle
@CB1494

have watched this vid multiple times and followed step by step and everything is perfect until i calculate for the pocket but when calculations are finished one or more of the letters in my bottom text disappear. What am i doing wrong? its making me nuts. the sign looks perfect up til that point.
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 3 года назад
Generally when a letter is missing it means there is an overlap or loop in the vectors, take a close look at that missing letter in your drawing and make sure there are no overlaps or loops. if there are clean them up and recalculate.

Using desktop, is there a process to make option 2 a template?
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 2 года назад
You can create a blank project with a set size and layers and go to file .. save as a template... The text of course will change for each design. But the layers remain consistent

Why do I start at 0 when carving bottom welded text? It seems to cut alot of air since I already cut and clearanced top text. I used a script text for ny top text and V bit carves way deep into inside of script. Am I doing something wrong?
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV Год назад
Use Option 2 and you can start at the bottom of the top text depth instead of Zero. Option 1 has you starting at Zero because of how the offset is handled and the slope that travels from the top of board down to the bottom of the bottom text pocket. Best way to answer your question is do option 1 and start at the bottom of the top text depth and see the issue furst hand for yourself and why you start at 0.00. again Option 2 you start at the bottom of the top text pocket.

@@SpindleTV Thanks for your response Laney. I'm new at this and still learning. Learned alot from you.

when you start at 0.1 , do you have to drop bit that point one? or do you still zero bit on corner, or do you have to counter sink bit point 1? never could figure that part out,
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 3 года назад
If you set your job up to touch off on the material surface you set the tip of the bit at the material surface that is z zero if you set the job up and vectric as machine bed is the Z 0 then you touch that tip of that bit off and you said zero on your waist board or your table top whatever you have. as far as a start depth in any job we're basically telling the bit just to cut that much more deeper but you always zero out the tip of the bit on the surface or the machine bed... you never bury the tip

Hey bro on the very first one what kind of 60 vbit are you using? I have the 3 flute .25” the shank and vbit are .25”..is this the correct bit bcuz I already put it to carve and I did the offset at 0.0722 with that 60vbit ..hopefully I did it right…I have another vbit which is bigger the white side 1550 but I usually use the .25” ones…and will it carve away the border on the third text? I’m asking bcuz I just changed bits from .125 to the 60v and I noticed the border was still there around the third text..any info is greatly appreciated..I’ve been trying for months now to get this right…
@SpindleTV
@SpindleTV 3 года назад
Whiteside 1541 60 degree Vbit 0.25 diameter 3 flute....follow the instructions for option 2. If you have lower text there is a stand alone vcarve toolpath for it. It will not be part of the top or bottom text toolpaths.

SpindleTV I will try to find the video I watched last week, but I think- you only have to translate it in English for subtitles and then there is and option to click on for other languages to auto populate. I believe mark Lindsey talked about (someone pointed it out to him)
