Which is better for you, TextNow Wireless or TextFree? I've been testing both! Let's look at the differences and what services like these are best used for in this TextNow MVNO Review vs TextFree app Review!
The TextNow app and the TextFree app give you a free US phone number (with your choice of area codes usually) and can be used completely for free--but there are some drawbacks. First off, both Text Now and the TextFree app require an internet connection to operate for messaging and voice calls. Actually, one of the biggest differences between the apps is that TextNow wireless will send you a free Nationwide Talk and Test sim card that does allow access for messaging and voice over the T-Mobile network (like a real T-Mobile MVNO), so you can use it like a traditional wireless phone plan (mostly). TextFree offers nothing like this.
Both the TextNow app and TextFree wireless are generally ad supported (heavily), but since Text Now can operate more like a traditional carrier, they also sell data plans. The TextFree app takes a different approach where they don't provide unlimited calling--you have to either pay for more minutes or use another app to watch ads, download apps, etc. Both offer subscriptions around $9.99/month that remove ads, lock in you number, and a few other things--but please don't pay for that. There are much better cheaper options from a number of other carriers like Mint Mobile, Tello, Red Pocket, and US Mobile.

Hello Simon! Sometimes the subscription options behave bizarrely--it's a bit sketchy. You can chat with TextNow support and they can process the subscription manually though--that's what they told me about a month and a half ago.

The TEXTNOW call quality is horrible often for me. I don't think it's a carrier signal issue as my normal cell number works fine. TextFree, however, is total garbage as it allows you to choose your number and then says that number is not usable! Over and over

Text Now has Tractor Supply ad that pops up over my entire computer screen which is so annoying. I wouldn't care if it was popping up on the side but it interrupts my messaging too.

Hello MM! If you currently have a wireless plan, then TextNow would be more useful as a second line and could work well using the data plan from your current SIM card. If you don't have a phone plan or SIM card you would need the TextNow sim to call/text when away from wifi. Is that what you're asking?

I can make calls and send/receive texts with Textnow. But when someone calls me, my phone does not do anything to let me know there's an incoming call. The caller will hear a few rings then hear "the person is not available, please leave a message." After that, I would see a "Miss Call" alert in my Textnow app. How to fix this? Is there some kind of setting I need to do in the Textnow APP for my phone to ring, vibrate or do something to let me know when a call is coming in?

Hello Shine! Hmmm. My guess is that your phone's battery optimization settings are limiting TextNow from running in the background. Hello Justin! Bad news is that TextNow does not currently support esim. Good news is there working in it. So, right now your option would be to use the TextNow app without the sim (over WiFi or data from another carrier). Sorry.

I have an account with text now, over a sudden it i was logged out and could not login again, every time I try it shows a message that " your account has been disabled for violating terms...." i tried creating a new account using another email address, but encountered the same issue, last I created anew account and paid the subscription but again had the same issue, i submitted an appeal to textnow but with no reply, what should I do? Hello Beehot! I'm not sure what country you're in but you could use TextNow over wifi in lots of regions. The sim is only for the US at the moment. Textfree is basically US and Canada only.

Hello Jessica! I'll have to check on Whatsapp. If you are texting from iMessage to a TextNow number then delete the conversation in iMessage, I believe that the conversation would still exist in TextNow.

@@phonecomp talkatone is actually pretty good for phone calls, but they will lock your account if send too many text messages. They will lock you out of your account for weeks for sending too many texts.

Hello Justin, yes--i'm pretty sure you can. I've never had the chance to test that, but you can definitely use the app on an iPad. I would think it would be compatible with the sim. If you test it out, please let me know the results!

@@phonecomp apps like MSpy were all you need is the target cell phone number and you see their location in real time my question is using TextNow number and not my real phone number will they be able to track my exact location.

Thanks for the video bro I love and hate Text now they dont have the yearly plan for lock in number no more on IOS now it cost 6.99 weekly not good. Now what I do is every morning I called my FREE weather forecast number line to get my news and forcast for FREE when calling in the line daily I know my number is safe. Keep up with the videos bro

Thanks Nguyen! That's a good idea to keep your number. I used IFTT to automatically place a call everyday. It worked too! I wonder why they removed the lock in annual upgrade? Hopefully they will bring it back.

Hello Frankieboy! I'm not sure what you mean, but they provide a new phone number for you to use. That number is displayed when someone receives a message from you using TextNow's app. This is true for both the free app and with any paid TextNow service.

Hello Tiffany! Yes, both are free if you only want to use the apps over wifi. TextNow has paid plans which usually include a sin card so you can use the app like a typical wireless plan. You can also use the TextNow nationwide talk and text plan for free after buying the sim.

Text free gives you an actual wireless number while textnow gives you a VOIP/landline which you cannot use for real services. I don't know how textnow has a sim service and textfree doesn't 😭

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time with Text Free! Thanks for letting me know. I definitely had problems with call quality as well-it was very dependent on the strength of my Wifi. TextNow typically does a better job. I have a new TextNow sim I've been living with for an updated review and at least the service seems pretty much unchanged since last time.
