I like 5cp in casual, infinite posibility as an individual to frag and roam. in pl there are so many map restrictions. same for a/d

In 5cp each class has its time, you can't expect each class to have an equal amount of playtime. Are you on last with full uber disadv, run a heavy and engi or run a pyro if you're on gully or metalworks. Hmm, do you need a opening pick to push in? Run a spy or sniper. The reason these specialists aren't run much is that if you fail at doing the thing your specialized in doing, then you are practically at a one man disadvantage. In PL, why would you ever not run a sniper, medic, demo, engi, heavy and pyro? PL is specialised, which means the specialists will be run like the whole time. I.e, defense why won't you ever run the classes that specialize in defense (heavy, engi). There is no downside in using the defensive specialists since you won't ever have to push the offensive blu team. In 5cp you have to attack and defend though, so the downside of running a heavy, engi and pyro is much bigger. Sure you will have a good hold, but how will you push out? The downside of sniper and spy is that it's all or nothing, you either get a pick and can push fowards, or you don't get a pick and you're one man down. Scout is also just much more safer, hitting consistent 60 dmg shots is better than hitting a headshot inconsistently. If you're a god at sniper, then of course it's better to run him. The problem is not much people are a god at him to be able to hit consistent headshots.

​@@justanalias5642 Why would you want there to be a downside for running a defensive class ON DEFENCE. Not that the classes can't be run on offence as well, like sniper and demo and even heavy to some extent because they are restrict due to a lack of mobility like in 5cp thus they have a place always to do well even when not playing to their specific role. The point of payload isn't to constantly have to retake ground from the enemy over and over and over again in a stalemate. Payloads point is to beat the enemy's time time, once you have capped a point from the enemy that's it, that point cant be taken back so you can proceed. Not to mention the sides flip in payload so each team has a chance to play attacking and defending, multiple times even. The downsides with sniper are pretty much none existent in game modes like payload, but spy as a class is already the weakest so not much to do about that but buff the spy to be on everyone else level. 5cp is just way too restricting and boring compared to payload. Payload is much more indicative of how the game is meant to be played.

@@GiRR007 having a sniper with no downside isn't a good thing, the game becomes all based around the snipers and slows down. No one want to peak the defending sniper, so the attacking team gets their own sniper and buffs him for the svs. Repeat this until the defending sniper dies, then we can finally push. Highlander is a good example of a game that revolves all around the sniper. Next, the classes shouldn't be all equals to each other. Some classes will always be better than other classes. We don't need a spy to be as viable as a scout or soldier. At that point, spy starts to be less of a specialist, which makes him less unique. Also, 5cp being more boring is more of an opinion than anything. To me, 5cp is a fast paced gamemode with back and forth action while payload promotes turtling and feeding. Not to say 5cp is perfect, there is also alot of problems ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDM5ThcDRiQ.html, but for me and others, the pros overweigh the cons.

the biggest problem with hydro is that the gamemode is just 5cp but they force you to respawn after every cap. if hydro was remade as a straight up cp map it would be a lot more fun imo

I used to play the 360 version of TF2, where Hydro is one of the most commonly played maps. I was shocked to find out that Hydro was considered a joke in the PC version.

It might as well be with how the typical game goes lol

to be honest, that doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. add some extra routes from the spawns to mid, and it could become an interesting KOTH map

Or a single good scout or demo camping spawn .... I think the problem is not actually class balance its player skill and lack of teamwork balance that is the problem. The carry potential of a single person being even a little bit better than everyone on the other team is insane. On most maps the average skill level of the team decides who wins. On Harvest the team with the best player normally wins.

While i am a casual player who spends a lot of time on hightower and capture the flag but i cant denie it aint balanced you have to pass the enemy spawn twice and get back to your base to cap

i think i have around 300 hours on turbine and i love it so much but it’s such a godawful map it’s literally three rooms and everything’s flat but god it is fun

In a competitive mindset yeah, but a huge chunk of the TF2 user base is into the turtling gameplay.

Who doesn't hate sniper except for sniper mains? Only class in the game designed to insta kill every other class from across the map without any kind of counterplay except for "not being in the wrong place at the wrong time". He doesn't belong in a short to mid range game like TF2 and the game would be much better without the sniper class. And the ice on this massive cake of shit that is sniper is the Jarate + Bushwacka combo that can make him a serious threat even in close combat lol

Sniper is just so damn hilariously powerful it's retarded. He counters heavy, he counters medic, he counters soldier, he counters everyone except spy. Hell his only really good counter is another sniper, because a spy would probably die after the backstab

What do you expect? It's not a serious gamemode. There are like 3 playable classes: demoknight, sniper and spy if you're good enough. Tf2 was always about those GUNS!

Steel is fun in Highlander and choke hell in casual

I really like Steel but the map design has flaws and a lot of people get lost and don’t know how to play it

It is interesting how low he puts it. Actually there are a bunch of surprises. Like how high he puts payload race maps. And hodoo wtf? But I think overtime the problems with upwards have become more and more glaring. Like I think everyone recognizes how changing game mechanics and player skill levels have caused problems with maps like dust-bowl(despite how fun it is). And upward was the glorious start of the "new style tf2 maps". Much more open. Map areas designed for specific classes. ect. But it also did not have any of the experience map makers have come to learn about new style maps. So as people have become better at the game the map has really started for fall apart even more than some of the old style maps. Sniper has become overwhelmingly oppressive on upward. Especially without banning certain sniper weapons. Like its not too bad with machina, jerate, and darwins banned. But without those bans its just insane. Its also a surprising unfriendly map for mobility. The map is full of mobility tricks and cool jumps if you are just playing it as a jump map. But even in just casual matches mobility is severely punished by the way sentries work on open maps. Newer payload maps work really hard to have open terrain without crazy sniper sight lines or sentry positions that cover everywhere you can jump. It also suffers really badly from the defense has too strong of an advantage other than harsh spawn timers. This means way too much time is spent just throwing bodies at the cart rather than winning team fights. Newer payload maps tend to use a combination of "low defenders advantage on flanks", "higher defenders advantage on cart track", and "less harsh spawn timers" to encourage team fights.

Imo Borneo is good. Its 10x better than Hoodoo and Barnblitz

Its a tough last but a fun one. Its about as hard to push as say upward or badwater but I would argue its more fun to push. Its much more of a team fight last than a through bodies at the point last.

80% Of the matches I’ve played on this map involve my team not being able to get the first point and push past spawn. I’m not sure if that’s the maps fault or if I just have bad luck with dumbass teammates.

You just have to capture all of the control points to win, but unlike 5cp all points are available instead of having to go in an order.
