TFCC tears and ulna side wrist pain injuries are notoriously hard to diagnose.This quick and easy test will let you know how serious your Triangular Fibrocartilage complex tear is.
This video explains how to accurately test to see if you have a TFCC injury. All you need is a non-digital scale, non-elastic tape or a WristWidget. TFCC X-rays and MRI's can't give you weight - load bearing results - the key to knowing rehab and tear repair options.
The key to accurately defining a TFCC tear and monitoring its progress as it heals is having a non-digital scale.
A non-digital, analog style, dial scale is required for measuring the pressing ability, or weight bearing ability of your injured and healthy wrists.
How to do the Weight Bearing Test:
1) Place the palm of your uninjured wrist on the center of the scale, fingers pointing to the dial.
2) Position your elbow over your wrist. Elbow must be straight.
3) Press down, and note the highest number you are able to reach and keep. (Don't bounce. Press steadily.)
4) Repeat with your injured wrist. Press JUST to the point of pain. Do not exceed pain. Make note of your pressing ability.
5) Tape your wrist as shown on the video or put the WristWidget on your injured wrist. Repeat the test again. Make note of your pressing ability.
The WristWidget is a revolutionary way to treat ulnar sided wrist pain, TFCC injuries, wrist pain associated with weight bearing, gripping, rotation, and pain associated with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for many users.
The WristWidget was designed in 2009 by Wendy Medeiros, a Certified Hand Therapist, to reduce wrist pain associated with grip, wrist rotation, and weight bearing. Indicated for ulnar-sided wrist pain, TFCC injuries, and ECU subluxation. Clinically proven to reduce wrist pain and increase wrist strength.
A must-have for sports where the hand grips, rotates, or bears weight - like golf, tennis, baseball, rugby, polo, volleyball, rock/boulder climbing, acrobatics, gymnastics, weight lifting, bodybuilding, and yoga.
Taping for your wrist pain can provide similar results - however it can get very expensive, isn't convenient, and the tape can irritate the skin over time. The WristWidget provides a comfortable and economical and most importantly an effective solution.
Made of high quality, non-elastic material that fits comfortably around the wrist. The Velcro closure mechanism does not interfere with wrist motion or circulation and holds the wrist securely in place without irritation to the skin or wrist joint. One universal size fits both the left or right hand. Latex-free.

you have 4 TFCC wrist widget advertisements popping up on the screen towards the end of the video. It's impossible to actually see what he is doing with the wrist widget. Please consider removing these from your videos. They make it impossible to get access to the full content.

Do you push down on the scale or just put your bodyweight through your wrist. I can't seem to get anywhere near the weights described without essentially bouncing slightly on the scale.

Just ordered one of the wrist widgets as I have diagnosed myself with a TFCC strain or tear. Pain is mild to moderate when hold something heavy with my right hand / wrist and when there is some rotation or of the pinky side bending down towards the ground. Rotating my palm to point up ( likea ful turn of a door knob ), it hurts towards the end of that motion. I can do a pushup virtually pain free and can put weight over 60+ lbs on a scale like in the video virtually pain free too. I can't get to doctor for 3 weeks. Thoughts?

Its even stronger! Anyway, even without a tear on my weak hand my good hand should have more tolerance but the tape did it! But, 1) I did on a digital scale no one had an analog one! 2) I had a pisiform injury to my good hand couple of years ago so this might have affect my poor performance on both hands. 60 non injured 49 injured 62 injured with tape. 3) I did a number of tests and my power increased, maybe because it warmed up a bit. 4) Kinesio doesn't really do the job, its too elastic, go for standard sports tape. Life with a wrist injury sucks.. I can't even park the car properly! Tape those bad boys! Don't make the mistakes I did!

I got this pain from lifting a barbell incorrectly (it got slanted halfway). I ignored it for a while since I thought it will get better with time. But it's been like months and months man. It's not heavy pain but everytime I do a 360° motion with my wrist there is a fixed point where its snappy and kinda hurts. Its more between my pinky and ring finger line. It sucks man.

@@32915 Its not pain. It was never paining. I think its a non lethal dislocation which has changed the geometry of the bone slightly. I haven't done much to fix it since it doesn't hurt at all, its just less flexible that's it. And I haven't even lifted in a year since all my local gyms are closed cause of the virus.

@@fzwwa14y163vcfgteku No I haven't. But as said earlier mine is not lethal, it is simply the most minutest dislocation that causes a very subtle knuckle cracking like noise when doing a 360 degree rotation. The rotation is not smooth at one particular point. If you are facing any pain or your movement is hampered then try getting it checked from a doctor. For me it was nothing insane but I stopped doing Overhead Press altogether(the exercise that caused the problem).

I've been researching tfcc injurys for the last few hours and was sure I have it but I just tried it and I could do 120pounds on each wrist. Is it still likely that I have a tfcc injury? I get sharp wrist pain on the top when there is weight on my wrist and my wrist is >90° (handstands). Thanks.

Thomas, are you using a non-digital scale ? It's critical that the test is done with a non-digital scale. If you don't have one, you can go to a local store and do the test there... or purchase one for less than $5. Please DM us on our Facebook page with your test results.

wristwidget digital scale. What would the difference be? They both give an indication of weight.
@wristwidget
@wristwidget 6 лет назад
Digital scales are not accurate as they report a static weight which may not be accurate. A non-digital scale allows you to visually see where the tolerance level is. The average wrist has a weight bearing tolerance of 60-120#. Try testing with a non-digital scale and let me know your results. (sorry for the late response).

I hope you 've gotten help for this. The Weight Bearing Test will determine whether or not you have a TFCC injury - you will notice an improvement in weight bearing ability when the wrist is taped as shown, or a wristwidget is worn as compared to untaped.

Hello, why does this have to be non digital scale?
@wristwidget
@wristwidget 2 года назад
Think of it this way... A digital scale measures static weight. A 10# bag of flour will weigh 10#. We're actually looking for how much weight your wrist can bear, or perhaps better stated, your pressing ability. With an analog (non-digital) scale, you can see visually where your abilities lie and what the consistent weight bearing number is for your wrist. The results from a digital scale give you an untrue value for the severity of your injury.

So I tried to do the test and got 70lbs on my left wrist and 0 on my right wrist. I can’t even put my hand flat. I’m hoping maybe a wrist widget might help
@wristwidget
@wristwidget 3 года назад
give yourself a bit of time after the cast removal to get your range of motion back. you may need some hand rehab to help you. I would start heat and do gentle range of motion exercises hourly. keep the fingers moving. casting that long makes the wrist quite stiff. it normally takes 10 days for the wrist to calm after the cast is removed. massage it, ultrasound helps, estim, acupuncture and regular gentle motion. don’t be discouraged if you wake up and it is stiff again. keep it moving gently and frequently. set your expectations correctly. first goal is 45 degrees of wrist flexion and extension.
