Thai Lesson: ให้/ hâi/ | How to use & practical examples  

สวัสดีค่ะ /sà-wàt-dee kâ/
In this lesson, you will learn one of the most common Thai words but most of Thai learners still are unsure how to use it. You can apply this lesson in many situations when you want to say ‘have someone do something’ or ‘get someone to do something’
S + have/has + person/thing + V
S + get + person/thing + to V
ให้
/hâi/
1. I will have the cleaner clean my office
ผมจะให้พนักงานทำความสะอาดทำความสะอาดห้องทำงานของผม
/pŏm jà hâi pá-nák ngaan tam kwaam sà-àat tam kwaam sà-àat hông tam ngaan kŏng pŏm/
2. She tried to get him to explain
เธอพยายามจะให้เค้าอธิบาย
/ter pá-yaa-yaam jà hâi káo à-tí-baai/
3. The doctor had the nurse take the patient’s temperature
หมอให้พยาบาลวัดอุณหภูมิของคนไข้
/mŏr hâi pá-yaa-baan wát un-hà-poom kŏng kon kâi/
4. The teacher had the students write the answers on the whiteboard
ครูให้นักเรียนเขียนคำตอบบนกระดาน
/kroo hâi nák rian kĭan kam dtòp bon grà-daan/
5. I don’t know how to get everybody to listen to me
ผมไม่รู้ว่าจะทำยังไงให้ทุกคนฟังผม
/pŏm mâi róo wâa jà tam yang ngai hâi túk kon fang pŏm/
Practice: I will get my dad to pick me up at the station
