Excellent idea to interview a visa agent. But only a small number of your viewers would ever go to Penang, and we know that different Thai visa offices work differently, so now this should be a series with you interviewing visa agent and/or lawyers in Thai locations, especially Bangkok. Please, please !! Also this was a little short to cover different types of visas, you essentially focused on business visas…because you are in Thailand on a business visa I guess, but I suspect that there would be much more interest from your viewers on temporary and other types of long term visas, especially Retirement and/or Elite visas. That’s all for my Santa’s list for this year. Thanks for great work🙏

I felt the friction of multiple visa run stamps in my passport yesterday at Bangkok airport. They we very reluctant to let me in. I agree that it’s getting more strict and the tide is changing. I’ve experienced this change around the world though, unfortunately.

They announced to give six free entry visas from airport entry so that tourist can stay long time, but now it seems they changed their mind and giving hard time to those who wants to stay long time. I normally stay a month in Vietnam the other in Thailand since years. Although I didn't come to Thailand for 2 and half years, at my forth entry this year from BML airport, I got told, I can no more get tourist visa free or payed anymore in my life.

Hi Tim, this was really informative and helpful. I watch yours and other English speakers media outlets based in Thailand 🇹🇭. I’ve noticed a lot of crack downs on education visas, they recently revoked like 700 of them with more to come. It also seems like a lot of people are reporting difficulties with renewing visas and visa runs. The are especially cracking down on over stays. The nightlife raids to check visa eligibility. People reporting foreigners who may be overstaying and most recently the crackdowns on the Chinese illegal activities. I have also heard of difficulties with getting visas in the neighboring countries. Add to that the new long term visa for wealthy world citizens. This is my long winded way of saying I think the writing is in on the wall. I believe that Thailand wants the government pensioners and the minimalists retirees out and the wealthier people in. The announced this late last year and have been talking about it this year as well. I think this is being done on purpose and the countries that border Thailand 🇹🇭 are feeling the same. Basically I think the authorities believe there are too many foreigners living in the country at the moment that don’t add any significant investment value and they would like them gone. Again this is just my observation and is only based on what I’m seeing in the news.

Back in the early 2000's, TOT announced in the Post that they wanted to get rid of the backpackers coming to Thailand and focus on wealthy tourists and tourists who would stay for two weeks empty their pockets and go home. Soon after that the family owned coconut and bamboo resorts disappeared and were replaced with 4 and 5 star resorts. Unfortunately it was very few family owned businesses that became 4 and 5 star. Back then you could turn in your passport with an application to a travel agency. Go back to the beach and in three days you had another 60 day stamp. I knew an American that had overstayed 3 years after having several years of 60 day visas. He was finally caught and asked to leave the country in so many days or they would arrest him, deport him, and not allow him back for 5 years. LOL

@@ianmcnamee1652 good answer. Indeed, many hotels via the booking sites have cancelation policy. Usually a week before you arrive. Sometimes you are required to pay 1 or 2 nights, and sometimes you can find extremely cheap spot. You don't actually have to sleep there, cabin of straw with no electricity... But it is a valid booking and cheap :-) Sometimes you need to be a bit flexible and creative because of strict rules. Think outside of the box to be able to let them check all their boxes ✔️

@@timnewtontoday Living in the Chumphon area makes Nok Air to Saigon the cheapest flight option I could find, but still bloody expensive for all the flights and hotels. I will not buy another METV if it entails flights just to renew my visa. It seems strange that Thailand makes no money by requiring tourists to fly out and back into the Kingdom to get another two months. They would be money ahead by just charging a larger fee than the 30 day renewal for a 60 day extension or even 90 days by just purchasing the time. It seems like a no brainer to me. It would sure be easier on the tourists and they would have no time out of the country where they are not spending money in country.

Good cop / bad cop routine, with the good cop being on holiday 🤣🤣 I've been there a few times a d i guess about 30% are send away, as they are short of important documents (sometimes not even a passport) really, really stupid things. I totally understand why the officer gets grumpy from time to time, especially with Dutch, who don't accept no for an answer easily... A few trainings in customer service would not hurt. They did help me really good, and the few smaller mistakes i made in the past, they really helped fixing them. A smile would have left a more positive impression. Yes, they are strict... Really strict Getting a tourist visa for my wife (Schengen visa) wasn't a lot easier! Probably even more strict Biggest difference: for Europe you know it will be a hassle.
