I had a stroke 10 months ago I was never told the type of stroke I had. I have all the symptoms of a thalamic stroke as was described in this clip. I have been and I am being criticized because I have less physical and mental abilities. I have lost considerable driving skills and hand/finger dexterity. I stumble and occasionally fall. family members suspect my demise is an act to get attention and sympathy. Thank you for posting this. Sarcasm and criticism have been diminishing my sense of self-worth. This post has been reassuring to me because I now know that there is an actual reason for my symptoms

Thank you for this video. You don't know how much of a relief it is to hear somebody talk about some of the things I've been experiencing in my world. From somebody who has dealt with a stroke and is still trying to understand everything, this video is a great resource to have!

thank you for this video. I have been telling my neurologists of these symptoms and they keep telling me it is in my mind. I couldn't understand why I would get ridiculously sleepy after eating. And also, the surreality of seeing my limbs doing things but not feeling them. The needles on half of my body with the random extreme sharp pain (as if getting stabbed), the neurologist didn't believe me. Just knowing that I am not crazy helps me. Thank you.

I'm on day 11 after a right hypothalamus stroke, came home from hospital 4 days ago, dieback at work tomorrow & trying to come to terms with what has happened. I have never felt so much fatguy before. Sleeping up to 14 hours a day and still tired.got pain relief for my neuropathic pain. Had occupaytherapy and physio therapy which gave helped. I'm sleeping soundly all night and having ling naps during the day. My Stroke happened in my sleep I woke up with my left side paralysed, my voice was slurred and my right eye would not wake up. I'm only 50 and this has scared me badly

Thank you so much, 25th April 21 I had a Thalamic stroke, blockage. The pains through my body are severe, however I noticed today that as I walked to the pharmacy it subsided. I do not want to be taking strong pain relief all the time and whole heartedly agree with your suggestion of keeping busy. This was a simple observation I made when out, of course I cant keep walking all the time but yes, busy doesn't have to physical. There is one down fall my sleep is disrupted with terrible pain and my body temperature is in chaos, sometimes shivering so bad it makes me feel very ill and the pain makes me groan in my sleep, I wake saying "no more pain"

Thank you so much for this critical information. I had a left side thalamic stroke in March 2018 and now I finally understand the pain in my affected hand! None of my doctors have ever explained that to me and nothing seems to work on the pain. I so appreciate you sharing your expertise with us. Please continue to post these incredibly informative videos.

Thank you for posting this, and being so enthusiastic! I had a CVST of the thalamus back in 2015. I have Hemiplegic Migraines, migraines with stroke symptoms, so we thought it was just another one of those. Was a week before I went to the hospital. I was in ICU, almost died. Even have brain damage. Doctors were marveled, couldn't figure out of it was a clot or a bleed for the longest time, had all of the doctors excited and curious. I'm so sick of not being able to trust my brain. All this made my HM worse, of course. I can never trust my brain and it's so devastating because I was a smart child. I know it takes a long time for the brain to heal from such damage, but I'm impatient. Can't work. Brain gets things confused all the time. I have to deal with my mood swings, depression and anxiety comes with living like this. My life has been hell since the stroke and I just want some part of my life back.

Nice! Well-presented, comprehensive, informative. I've learned I've had a small stroke in the posterior right thalamus. Bummer! I see that the consequences could have been much worse - kinda dodged a bullet (knock on wood). Thanks.

Thank you Doctor. I presented with on going visual loss multiple times at my vision center. The misdiagnosed my with dry eyes and refused to send me for a stroke work up. I end up stroking at the house, died. Was put back in my body and now have ominous heniospsia from a right occipital lobe infarction and also present with a cerebellar hemorrhage. That finding at a later date had disapated. Nonlawyer wants to take my case and it makes me sad because there was time to treat me had my doctors not ignored my symptoms. If you know what I can do to get aide or bring this to the medical board at Flaum eye institute I would love your take on it. I will tell you also that my symptoms started after taking serroquel and begin with a sliver of light I would see on my left visual field around the 10 o’clock. Horrendous ear pain as well as eye pain with what seemed to be my eyes felt sucked back where I had difficulty taking my contact out (I only wore one in left eye) I was very assertive whilst going to these appointments and telling the doctors I’m losing my vision.

Whilst I have had some treatment and continued medication with clopidogrel and antivastatin, I did return to work but after 18 months I decided to retire. Dr. Sullivan - have you considered the treatment of PEMF (Pulse Electromagnetic Field) Therapy for Thalamic Stroke? My partner has recently had a stroke affecting his thalamus, swallowing and but has cognitive functions, and gross motor skill functions in his legs, can make a fist. Any thoughts on the PEMF modality?

I know someone with a thalamic stroke and I'm always fascinated to learn more about it. Its hard to find into on thalamic stroke since it seems rare and not often talked about so thank you. The person I know had a thalamic stroke on left side and it mostly effected their eye movements,(the eyes roll and twitch involuntarily, is that normal with thalamic stroke?) and balance. btw here's a good short film www.cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php based on real stroke survivors that depicts neuro-fatigue and adjustment to stroke really well in case you are interested!
