Amazing creatures, well captured - both in the net and by camera! I must try and see what's living in the tiny little 3 year-old pond in our garden - just 60cm long, 40cm wide, 90cm deep, with A small cluster of Lesser Sedge, some Frogbit, and Hornwort as an oxygenator. I'll need to get myself a very small dipping net and a white tray. Any advice gratefully received! 👍👍👍
An excellent addition to your other wildlife channelLike your photos of the stater, far better than the ones I have taken so far. Some tips for photographing some of these surface dwellers would be appreciated. The longest lens I have is the Oly 100-400 and 40-150 pro for this sort of thing
Thanks, some of the Skater footage was in a tray after I caught one pond dipping, but the eating the flying ant was with the Oly 300mm pro and teleconvertor. Getting close enough is often the issue (and low enough) but Ive used the 60mm a macro on a pair busy making more pond skaters and the 90mm macro worked with a flash diffuser when I saw some hanging round the shore and so set up there and waited for them to come back which worked ok - its in a video I filled last year about using the 90mm macro and diffuser :)
Thank you, been in outdoor education for over a decade leading pond dips (and looking in ponds and reading up on pond life for a lot longer!) so learned a few things in that time :)
