Like, “something strange deep inside of me is happening I felt something unlike anything I’ve ever felt” referencing how she doesn’t have any sort of human emotions at the start of Evangelion and throughout most of the story, until Shinji changes how she is when he tells her to smile. There’s lines like “what am I” that leaned towards Rei because she’s a clone. Unlike Shinji and Asuka she never really has her own thoughts other than to please Gendo. “I realize we aren’t the same” is a nod to her realizing that fact that she’s not originally human unlike Shinji the person who she admires, she looks after, she praises and wants to become closer to.

the song is about a poignant expression of identity struggle, unrequited love, and societal pressures that can prevent individuals from fully embracing themselves. The song delves into the depths of human emotion, exploring the complex experiences of fear, sadness, and the yearning for connection. Asuka could never help Shinji because she ingrained in herself that she would never show anyone love again because of her mother, so she so she tried to become the best she could be and used her hate to block out love because she saw it as weakness, Shinji bottled his hate and love, he was so frustrated with his father and lack of any love that he had no way of understanding how to show his love, which is why he masturbated throughout the show as it is hinted, he only knew that emotions were a transactional thing, because of his father, in which he sought praise so badly, learned to fake those being nice because he was scared of being hated by his father which also means other people. he thought if he *got into the eva* that people would love him. the here people could not change, it was already apart of their character, they had already reached their limits and had to seek out different people in which they did not have to change. Think of it as a piece of wood that you have whittled, you cannot change that piece of wood after you realize you messed up whittling it. You cannot fix it and must find a new piece of wood to whittle. at least this is what I think the creator thought, I believe Shinji and Asuka should have made up and got together after truly understanding each other. because that was true love.

Thank you!! I don't even know where to start, aaaah. Okay, so I originally watched Eva for a good laugh because the memes were funny and I was just under the impression it would be hilarious. It was silly at first, just a typical anime really and I enjoyed it. I found myself really engrossed with the characters even though it was still rather lighthearted. You know, like 'wow haha asuka is terrible why does anyone like her' and 'ommmgg shinji what are you doin', making 'there goes the budget' jokes and all of that kind of stuff. Alright, so we get to the last few episodes - the ones that just get really weird and wacky. So now I'm like, extremely into it. All of the existentialism in the end melted my brain and when Shinji gets his round of congratulations I actually felt like I had just graduated from some crash-course in self-acceptance. So, I don't even comment on the ending. I just want to dive right back into more Eva. I immediately watch End of Eva and that movie ... destroyed me. When it ended I just kind of sat there in complete awe. I felt so hollow and moved and awful and it just felt like the whole series gave me a spoonful of harsh truths in a way that was strangely uplifting once I sat on it. 'It all returns to nothing', 'no one can understand you but you, so take care of yourself' ... The 'hedgehog dilemma', there was just so much and it was all wrapped in this big beautiful mecha bow. I watched the rebuilds immediately after and I think I may explode into flames when the fourth release is announced. I found that at the end there were no characters I hated, I loved them all for different reasons ... I mean, maybe aside from Gendo and _even then_. I found the flaws to be funny enough to just make me enjoy the series more, and the philosophy kick-started my library of existentialism and psychology books. Don't get me started on the music, aaaaaaah. THE SOUNDTRACK. I know every song, I've listened to every album I could find. I'm actually working on my own tribute album!! I don't even know how this happened really, I did not expect to be sucked in, but I just think Evangelion is wonderful. I found that those who actually _understand_ certain bits of it and can empathize with the characters are more likely to have had experience with depression. I have. I've been in some dark places and while I can't say Evangelion brought me out of my depression, it connected me with people who understand the darkness. People who understand having to force yourself not to 'run away', even if you break down and cry after, or wanting to shun the painful things in life and not take responsibility but knowing you have to. People who have truly, deeply, devastatingly just wanted to just disappear and wondered why they were breathing - even though what they truly want is to be understood, validated, loved, and treated with kindness. Anyway. I could probably write an entire book but thank you for asking!

I know I'm commenting after 2 years, but since I can assume your love for Eva hasn't died, I wanted to say that's really heart-lifting to find a fellow Eva fan that was able to look past the ''bad'' reputation this show has. So many people are hardcore haters: they watched the show once, they didn't pay enough attention, they understood nothing and got irritated. And now they say: ''I get it, there is nothing to understand'' or ''fans thinks it's deep just because of the religious symbolism'' or ''it's pretentious bullshit''.
