I was just writing almost word for word the same thing when I saw this comment... I mean I kept expecting a twist, but had completely forgotten April fools had happened
Holy shit, i believed the whole thing... I laughed so hard, such a relief knowing that you'll still be there. Thanks for all the great videos. Bottoms up!
You bastard. I was _going_ to say, some of your best work hasnt been the critiques, but rather the videos you've made (for example) on what heroes are and why they're important. I can't count how many times I've quoted one in particular to friends struggling with depression. Mock me if you so desire, but you've written some powerful, inspiring stuff. Glad to know I was bamboozled with this video.
"I can't count how many times I've quoted one in particular to friends struggling with depression" Mind sharing what that was you quoted to those friends?
"A man can be killed or destroyed. But if he makes himself more than just a man and becomes an ideal. He becomes something else entirely. A legend. " Ra's Al Ghul
I sense a great disturbance in the force, as if a thousand SJWs that were celebrating throughout most of this video cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Watching this two weeks after it was uploaded, and forgetting what day it was 2 weeks ago... Oscar performance good sir! You had me going there, I nearly shed a tear
Drinker, you magnificent bastard, you almost had me. I bit for about 15 seconds, before I realized what day it was. Maybe you are a drunken Scotsman, but you truly do fight the good fight. Even if we disagree on the last two Ghostbuster movies, you are still needed. Warriors like you, MauLer, AZ, Doomcock. Someday, you really will hang 'em up for good. And you will be remembered as legends.
I believed it because of the Star Wars the acolyte critique. It sounds like he's given up on the hope, that Star Wars would be good again. Very fatalistic. Maybe this video here contains more truth than he wants to tell us😂
It’s May second and I’ve only been watching your videos for a short time now but they’re super entertaining and insightful so I was actually moved at the prospect of you calling it quits. Glad to see you’re going to keep at it
Nah, man, you just forgot all the other times because you're so old! 😂 Anyway, at age 54 myself... Wait, I lost my train of thought. What were you saying? What was I saying?
Drinker, you've inspired me to follow in your footsteps and quit my job. Sure my children may have to go hungry for a while, but it's just not fun anymore. Thank you for giving me the courage to make this decision.
I hope you're joking. If you are a father you have a responsibility to care for you're family regardless of how hard it is. I'm not saying that you should give up on your dreams but putting your children in danger should not be acceptable no matter what. May God guide you in your life and may Jesus be your lord and savior.
Watching from Australia where it's the 2nd already and didn't clock it. Shouted at my brother to come see and we paused it and had a heated winge about one of the last good creators signing off. You sly sauced bastard, hats off with love.
@@allbbq Means having a Sook xD, I'm also from Australia and i knew april fools was over when i watched this but kinda fell for it because i can see how burnt out this dude gets over the current state of Media. Glad he's staying hope he takes a little break for himself though.
Almost had me, Drinker-being a long time viewer and committed drunkard, however, I knew it couldn’t be so! Well done!! The updates on the film project are amazing!
Wow… it’s not often you get someone who is so sincere about their passion, and decides to end their journey on a high note rather than milking it dry. I’m gonna miss you, but I’ll always enjoy the old memories. Good luck to you! … … OH YOU INEBRIATED PIECE OF-
I’m going to miss the amazing reviews and content you brought to this platform, every video was the pinnacle of jokes, editing, and writing. I always related to your takes on modern cinema and I’ll never forget you man🍻 Edit: GOD DAMN ITTTTTTT
Man... You had me at goodbye. I've been "away" for awhile, and seeing life through different lenses have me all up in my feels, I'm leaking. You are extremely talented, a Jedi of Jargon, and would be greatly missed. Keep grinding brother and may you live forever shiny and chrome.
Almost made a lot of fat middle aged men with 1k sub channels who do nothing but make videos hating Drinker, Nerdrotic etc extremely happy.... Almost 😂
Damn you, you handsome bastard! You fooking got me, and my liver had a moment of hope. You were my introduction to the Fellowship Drinker and the reason I continue to live the purest hedonistic life of endless debauchery. 🍻🍻🍻
You ornery bastard, you. I knew it was not real! Finally, that exciting ornery Scottish eye got me. Hey! Not all Scots have onery wild eyes but all wild ornery eyed men are Scots.
A lot of us here simply wait to see Your review of a certain movie we plan to watch, and if review is bad, we trust it by default and skip that movie, and that means something. Thanks!
@@BooleanDisorder @BooleanDisorder We don't use the Gregorian calendar in Ethiopia so I completely forgot it was the 1st of April. He almost ruined my night.
You almost got me, Mr. Drinker. I panicked, clicked play, and then looked at the calendar. I'm thankful that my favorite drunken Scotsman who reviews movies is here for a while longer!
Amen! Amen! Amen! I got so much love for you my brother....do it! 😢😢😢 I saw this video you made coming home from work drinking vodka got into my room and cried watching this video you made because I'm going through some stuff in my personal life as well as being in agreement w your thoughts as well. You are the best and it breaks my heart I won't hear from you no more but as long as it works better for you....by all means, I hope the best for you my dude in this shitty world were living in❤🙏🤘
Hook, line and sinker!! I was so relieved when I realised it was an April Fool. Channels like yours have never been more important. Thanks for all the great content.
Aw, I will miss your videos but totally support you! Wish you all the best! Your fantastic and I wish I could have met you in person. Opps, wait what? I thought maybe it was good to end it all? You got me. Shoulda known.
The instant I heard him say that, I checked the time marker. What?? Still a minute to go? Hold on a second... something smells fishy and it ain't Tatiana.
I was full-on sad and depressed until the last bit. You are the only one who fooled me today. Your presentation is flawless, just like the reviews. SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND
When I heard "Thats all I've got, time for me to go away now" I legit thought I was hearing this for the last time, and like watching the last minutes of Avengers Endgame I closed my eyes and a tear fell down my left cheek... Then I heard "happy April fools". I smiled, with my eyes still closed and whispered "Well played my intoxicated good sir, well played".
Ditto. I love the Critical Drinker and felt an overwhelming sense of sadness until he said "happy April's fools"; then I laughed out loud. I'd rather be an April fool than see the demise of this channel. BTW, I live in New Zealand where April fool's was yesterday but good one, Critical Drinker!
You wonderful bastard, you had me going there, I was about ready to raise my glass in a toast. Well played sir, a better plot twist than many recent movies.
What a prank!! This is one of my favourite RU-vid channels and would have definitely left a void in my life. Thank you for not jumping on the quilting RU-vid trend.
You confused the hell out of me. I just subscribed and thought -wtf? 😳But there are two new videos of yours already out. It was beautifully done though, it felt so real and emotional.
I'm from Spain and here we don't have April's fools. I thought you meant it. I have been on the verge of calling my psychologist for going into depression. I'm glad you're still going strong and drunk!!!
Well that's because on April 1st 1572 the Spanish Duke Alva, (Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel) lost Brielle to the Watergeuzen during the 80 years war which is still celebrated in the Netherlands today, and you guys are just salty about it.
I was taken in too, til I read the first comment halfway through. I legit thought he was giving his liver a break when he said "I'm tired of drinking." Like, who wouldn't be? Liquor tastes nasty. I guess I am not part of the tradition of thousands of years that people have been imbibing fermented stuff.
That's why we love him -- he's a great storyteller! He always gives us the alternate endings and 'obvious' missed opportunities. @sheerbeauty - hey, it might help to try the good stuff. Top shelf American bourbon, or a quality cocktail with excellent ingredients could change your mind!
Thought it was a joke at first... then, I thought 'oh wow! he's serious... that's too bad! And then, relieved!... You got me! Look forward to seeing your next video!
As soon as he started in on the "Now that I've made a short film, I don't want to shit on the work of others" bit, I got it. Not only was this brilliantly executed, but I love the sly dig at Chris Stuckmann going on there. Well played, Drinker. Well played. 🍻
@@angelsjoker8190 He posted a video concerning Madame Web rambling about how he's not interested in giving a bad review because that's unfair to the people who made it and received major ( and, honestly, deserved) blowback from other RU-vid content creators and the public for essentially toadying to the system because he just made a movie himself and is clearly trying not to ruffle any feathers. The problem is, his statement about that belies something vital to film criticism: Objectivity. If an individual is unwilling to acknowledge where w film steps wrong and instead only focuses on the good, not only is that a disservice to anyone watching or reading who is looking for some insight into whether the film is good or not, it's actually a disservice to the filmmakers and studios because they're not receiving honest feedback regarding the quality of their movies or television series. Take a look at arguably the best critic to ever be in the game: Roger Ebert. He frequently praised movies his mainstream contemporaries rejected outright ( Romero's Dawn of the Dead is a good example) and he also wasn't afraid to fully rip a terrible movie apart. Because being honest about his experience was literally his freaking job. Stuckmann essentially admitted in his video he's not going to aspire to that degree of honesty. It felt like that line in the Drinker's video here was a direct shot at that video and the flimsy reasoning behind it.
@@angelsjoker8190 I think Stuckman made a similar video and he actually started pursuing movie making and he stopped roasing movies. Now he only does positive reviews.
@@in5n80 Ah, ok. Thanks. I've read somewhere else in the comments, it's gotten kind of to the level of beef and Drinker and his pals have extensively bashed Stuckman.
Damn I watched this 5th april. This hits differently on that date.... I quickly calculated when the video was released and started to grin, he still got me good as I was already 70% into the video before realising.
Really had me going there. I was already mentally preparing my heartfelt response. Laughed out loud, scaring and making the dog jump when Drinker said April fools. Admittedly forget today was even April 1st. Hell, I paid rent today, should've known. Anyway. Thanks for the gut laugh. Looking forward to many more from the legend himself; the Critical Drinker. Cheers.
He had be for a minute because we just hit April 2 here, It's late, I'm very tired and I overlooked the date he posted. Thus, guard was down for a bit. Only one that actually got me a bit! Also, gotta give the speech a personal merit award. For a fake, that was pretty deep...or shall we call it a...deepfake? :P
I must admit, you really had me going there, you manky Scottish bastard!! That was an excellent April Fool's gag, well-executed. I'm truly glad that you're *not* leaving. I (among many others, I have no doubt) would miss you terribly. Your work is first echelon, consistently both insightful and entertaining. I look forward to watching each and every video that you release. Thanks for doing what you do, and I hope you continue to enjoy doing it for at least however long I have left on this planet (FWIW, I turn 65 next month).
Damn, I just got back from a business trip from an Unnamed Country where RU-vid is blocked and just clicked on the video without looking at the date it was posted. I was having severe depression until the very end! Brilliant!
I was drafting the most heartfelt comment in my head while listening to this saying how it’s been an amazing ride with your most excellent criticism on movies! So relieved when you punked me at the end! 😂😂😂
Right there with you. Knowing that it would be lost in a sea of a million others never to be read, I still couldn't stop my mind from going through the emotional tones and what I would say. Thank God my wife didn't catch me crying. She _never_ would have let me live that one down.
Understand, that being a film maker and a critic is a tough line to walk. We are tired too, but I'm glad there is someone out there who feels 86% the way I do about most this mass produced stuff. We sometimes need THAT guy. Rest well critical.
I saw this video on my feed mere seconds before my flight across the States took off and sat in stunned disbelief the whole way. The sheer relief I felt after watching the video upon landing is not quantifiable.
Honestly, even if this wasn't a joke, I can respect it. Every man has the god-given right to do what makes him happy, and I appreciate the time you've put into entertaining and educating us. :D
He got me in the first few seconds. Should've left out the last part about this being a joke. Then a few days from now he'd just keep uploading, making his haters lose their minds.
😂😂😂 Bro, I appreciate all of your videos. An acquaintance introduced me to your channel and ever since then I like everything you post. I appreciate the fact that you see movies as something other than entertainment, even though they are. Just wanted to show appreciation.
I am super high right now and you totally got me, Drinker. I was in tears thinking about how I would never hear your beautiful, foulmouthed, Scottish voice ever again. From a stoner to a drinker, happy April Fools' Day!
OMG! Good one. I'm 67 years old and I literally started tearing up before I realized it was a joke. I love your books and your content is my absolute #1 favorite. So glad you're not going anywhere! Please don't retire until after I die! LOL
