I noticed that all Xiaomi devices have this option, but it is hidden in some of them. You can find the anti-flicker option in the "activity launcher" program in the settings section, and that number will take you to this hidden section.

The reason for hiding DCD option is that it's not implemented on the device, so after user adds it the device will still has same pwd - found footage on youtube for some devices. But I'm not sure that it's true for every device - so adding still worth a try.

Sorry bad english: Honor is another brand that is releasing oled phones with really high pwm flickering (honor 90 or the magic 6 series wich i think goes up to 4000hz) sadly i cant stand any oled phones (not only because pwm but also things like infinty contrast and the colors are just too much for my eyes) but i am okay using with some lcd phones, right now i am using an realme narzo 30 5g and its working great, yes it is low end by today standards but i can use it for hours without feeling dizzy. I could use it for 8-10 hours straight in some insomina scenarios and had no eye/headaches. The biggest fault is there. When looking at this phone I'm having eye pain and headache(for longer use). Later I came to know the PWM dimming frequency of this phone is only 120 HZ😮😮. Even lower than 240HZ. This giving me eye pain. As a long period user, this is killing me. My previous phone was Redmi Note 7(stolen). It had IPS LCD. It was far better than this. I didn't had any issue with that. Zero eye pain, headache. Ah... my eyes are getting cooked with this one. Thank you for the information about DC dimming. Hello, Moe I have one more question. I recently replaced the display on my Poco X4 GT while I save up for a Xiaomi 14. The new display looks very good, almost like the original, but it's not as bright. However, it causes my eyes to hurt. I checked for flickering by using my camera at a shutter speed of 1/16,000 second, and the display doesn't flicker. I've also turned down the blue light and used reading mode, but the issue persists. Do you have any ideas about what might be causing this?
@MoeZainal
@MoeZainal 2 месяца назад
So you didn't have a problem before changing your display? That's odd. I am not sure why you are getting headaches. It's also hard to detect pwm flickering with a normal camera.

@@MoeZainal I was very happy with the original display-no eyestrain, no headaches. I use a Fuji X-E2s with the max shutter speed and higher ISO, and I can see the bands moving on my wife's OLED phone, but not on my X4 GT. Could it be the blue light or any settings?

Moe, I’m still having issues with my newly bought Xiaomi 14, which I purchased on your advice. I'm using it at the lowest brightness setting. Does the anti-flickering work at the lowest brightness, or should I increase it to mid-level? At what percentage should I set my phone's brightness for optimal performance without straining my eyes?

Generally, IPS LED screens don't flicker because they use DC-Dimming, try staying away from any OLED/Amoled because they use PWM Dimming. If you find a monitor that you like and is an IPS LCD , email the manufacturer to ask about pwm flickering just to make sure.

How does that work? The problem happens with low brightness range and low pwm frequencies, I assume that's when DC-Dimming kicks in otherwise it doesn't make sense having DC-Dimming at high-brightness because at that point it's safe for the eye.

@@MoeZainal I don't know. but it really works like my first comment. my guess is that the oled panel on xiaomi 14 pro lose accuracy with dc dimming at low brightness, so they switched to high pwm frequency, which is close to dc dimming in terms of eye strain.

Man… I don’t have OLED phone but I’ve been reading about this problem and wondering why no solutions are being presented. Seeing that Honor phone in the opening of the video was mind-blowing! I believe Apple should implement that as well, but knowing how cheap they are, it will probably take a while. If the battery consumption is the reason why high frequency isn’t as common, my hope is that there will be significant advancement in that area in the future.

Fair warning... Don't go spending hundreds on a phone that promises a software feature. Oneplus removed it, so can all the others. Also, the Nothing Phone 1 was very good at launch, it didn't flicker. Then because the screens were breaking that way, they released an update that reduced max brightness and introduced PWM. This is so upsetting and has been an issue for years now. Got my first eye issues with the Oneplus 5T and since then I've also become very photosensitive, generally very sensitive to light. This should be taken more seriously, but sadly no business will benefit from catering to a minority. There have been hundreds of "success stories" on forums by now, about phones that seemingly worked for people. Guess what, all of the posters of those topics took their words back and went back to finding a phone. I'm willing to bet money that this Xiaomi will eventually stop working for your eyes.
