@mino2123
honestly the biggest loss here is wario. mario's voice is iconic but c'mon, you can't replace WARIO.
@SuperDaveace
I met him at Nintendo’s NYC store. He was playing a virtual live animated Mario through the screen so it was like talking to Mario face to face (Just like the Mario Sports Mix advertisements for context). I asked him if he was murdering all those goombas and his response was perfect. He told me they just poof and respawn. Now I know Mario isn’t capable of murder. He is way too happy and silly to have ever done a murder in his life. Meeting him was so cool! Such an innocent response to asking someone if they are a murderer ever! Hopefully he will continue to attend events for Nintendo through his new role!
@jesseleesamples
It’s exceedingly rare that EVERY single fan interaction and media story about someone is all positive. The term “national treasure” is probably thrown around too often sometimes, but that man is a freakin treasure to the world. He’s just one of those rare human beings who constantly radiates positivity and happiness at all times. I would love to meet him someday.

We met Charles at an AU Comic-Con style convention. He was so bubbly and cheerful, and our first born was in a stroller, only 1-2 years old. With her, he was so quiet and gentle as to not scare her. Such a lovely man, he's made such an impact as a VA
@waywardlaser
Considering how many great voices we've had for Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny over the years, I'm sure the new VA will do a fantastic job.
@Dragular
Charles Martinet pretty much formed Mario's entire character. Mario's jolly and happy-go lucky personality was entirely from Martinet's belief that Mario should always be uplifting and encouraging. Charles knew exactly how he wanted Mario to be before he properly did the role full-time. Whoever's voicing Mario now has unfathomably large shoes to fill. I wish Charles and his successor the best of luck in the future.
@dukewojcik7753
A friendly reminder that he also voiced Paathurnax from Skyrim. This man has genuine talent. Wish him well.
@tex9419
i find it poetic that Martinet's last VA role was as Mario and Luigi's father in the Mario movie. Even more so were the last lines that he said, "These are my boys!" as their dad, and the classic "Wahoo!" as Jump Man. Truly the end of an era.
@VesperOfRoses
I didn't realize it, but growing up in an abusive home, the escapism of playing Mario games and hearing that dumb, funny little plumber man's voice inject just a little bit of silliness and whimsy into my life when I otherwise had none, Charles Martinet very much helped me get through life and survive as a kid. And he's always been there for as long as I can remember. I'm gonna miss him.
@Mr.Holloday
I was afraid he died as soon as the news caught my attention. I'm still sad that he'll no longer be Mario. It just won't be the same without him 😔
@millennialchicken
Mario will always be in safe hands, because Charles is the blueprint that every other Mario actor can follow from here on out. Charles has done his work, now he can rest and watch his legacy live on and flourish.
@Jeffro104
I met Charles at a Con, he was so kind, goofy, and genuine. I'm so glad that a man like that was the one who voiced one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming.
@tetermc
I don't get emotional easily. People retire, they pass away, thats life. But man, this one is hard for me. He's the voice of my childhood. He helped shape me into who I am today. I love him to death and wish him well on his adventures as the Mario Ambassador. Will miss him deeply but I am happy for him and he deserves a rest.
@Leron...
Charles' energy for performing as his characters always felt as though it came from the same mysterious wellspring as Robin Williams. It transcends "man doing a character's voice" and is better described as "character's voice escapes from man's mouth". He's a treasure and I"m so glad the news was not that we've lost him.
@ThatSceneWhen
I didn't formally meet Charles, but at a con event I went to his panel and as he was walking through past the audience up to the table he was waving at everybody that he could and he even waved at me. It was such an incredible moment and an absolute joy. I hope you get the chance to meet him Arlo.
@thegreatestegg6303
This is just making me think about how much I want Arlo to talk about the Muppets more often. It's awesome
@DanGamingFan2846
The end of an era. Charles is an absolute legend. I'll never forget his 30+ years of defining the Super Mario franchise and my childhood. I hope he enjoys his retirement, he's earned it. I'll miss him.
@SmashPlays
I met Charles Martinet with my girlfriend in 2021 when the pandemic was still in full swing. He had a huge background display with warp pipes and the whole thing, Mario music blasting on a loop all day. I think it drove the other celebrities crazy but he was loving it. There was a girl dressed as Yoshi in front of us and he went on for a really long time about how much he loves her costume. When we got up to him he greeted us with all of his voices and scribbled all over the autograph with doodles and Wahoo!'s.
@frischey
I met Charles at a convention back in 2018. I fully expected the line to be super long and wait ages to meet him; but to my surprise, there was no line at all. As I nervously walked right up to a man I never thought I'd get to meet, I noticed the line wasn't completely empty after all. A little boy in a wheelchair was at the front, and Charles was beaming down at him as they discussed their favorite Mario games and moments with so much enthusiasm. What always stuck with me is how Charles didn't sound rushed at all. He seemed overjoyed to speak to this kid for as long as he wanted because he could see how happy it made him. I felt bad for walking up so that I could meet Charles too 😅 He's the real deal, and I can't wait to see him again next month!
@ivorytower5847
Charles was the voice of our childhood. When my wife and I heard the news, we had a little teary moment, saying goodbye to an icon.
