▸ Thanos is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-artist Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (cover date February 1973). An Eternal-Deviant warlord from the moon Titan, Thanos is regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. He has clashed with many heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, the Eternals, and the X-Men.

Actually, following the cosmic cube he attained the infinity gems which were called soul stones at the time, all of them bar Adam Warlock's one, which he was siphoning off the energies to while he was near, to power his artificial stone he built to house the energies. At this point Thanos did not know about their true power though, in fact I'm not sure anyone did before him. He killed Warlock but was defeated by a combination of the Avengers and a partially resurrected Warlock
