Dunno why RU-vid didn't publish my reply to your message ! Anyway, I think I was just musing on if that's a regular size then how big is the large fish !
Really good price for seaside fish and chips Greeno and everything looks beautifully cooked. I could almost smell it 😂. And no gacky pudding inside the batter. I'd call that result perfect.
Yep, I get that everyone has to budget according to their circumstances, but if we can use the spare cash we have to support local, family owned businesses then all the better!
I will try one next time. The last time I tried one I was a teenager and I thought they were horrible. I would have said the same about beer and cheese at the time but now love both of those.
I'm a Northerner and can tell you for a fact that was cheap as chips 😂 We can pay more than that for a smaller inferior haddock , this was cod that would easily feed two....absolute bargain mate 👍 I'm fussy with the batter and hate it too thick or stodgy on the inside due the oil not being up to temperature.....reason I always order lightly battered as you're almost certainly guaranteed a decent result even from the worst chippy. As always another add to the list for my next visit , cheers Greeno 👍
Yeah, I am going to have to start asking for lightly battered. As you say, the piece of fish was a very good size, and that was just the regular one, imagine how big their large cod must be!
That's the same price we pay for a fish supper up here in North East Scotland, that was a great portion of both fish and chips. Good value for the price and you obviously enjoyed.Good review.
Best of British weather Greeno! 😂 That is one hefty cod! 😲 Nice crispy batter 😋 When they’re good these places aren’t going anywhere! Grew up with pickled eggs and a packet of crisps 👍
Is that right? I am up in London tonight, probably gonna drop a scary amount of money on a bang average dinner lol! Thanks for the kind words about the video 🙂
That looked delicious and now I am hungry. We differ a little bit on the subject of batter, because so long as it is crispy and not oily or fatty, then I think it is the best part. I take small strips of batter and just dip it in tartar sauce. I have a rule that every Friday is Fish and Chips Friday because I am a bit obsessed. However, I do balance the cost by keeping a tighter budget the rest of the week. I do love these seaside located reviews, so I do hope to see more of them.
There are worse rules out there than sticking to a fish & chips Friday regime that's for sure ! As I live in Dorset there's alwys going to be a smattering of seaside content :-)
In all the years I have been going to Swanage I have never been to Wrights, probably because I believe that as a rule fish and chips by the seaside are invariably poor because the shop doesn't have to try and be good, the grockles will lap up whatever rubbish is served and pronounce it "lovely" simple because they are by the seaside and that's what you are supposed to say. However this does look excellent and you are something of an expert on this subject! We'll try it next time we are in Swanage, which I think is soon as Lady Winwood's Maggot are playing somewhere there.
Thanks for the kind words 🙂 I think this was decent value (although of course didn't meet my £10 chippy challenge)... Gonna try and find some more budget chippy options!
Indeed - I tried to go to the Harry Ramsden a while ago, but they were closed due to a technical issue. I do plan to go back there to review it sometime next month hopefully!
Wow that Fish…. Fair play I thought that looked a really good piece of fish. I’m glad I am not the only one that HAS to have a pickled egg with there chippy! 😋 Normally a nice tin of Dandelion & Burdock as well for me Greeno. Are you off to the match on Sunday Greeno? ⚽️
I absolutely love a pickled egg, most underrated of all the pickles I reckon. Had to give up my ticket for Sunday, me and Mrs Greeno are up in London tomorrow for dinner and a show, stopping up there and won't be back in time for kickoff!
@@theabandonedhunter3604 thanks Smithy... Musicals really aren't my kind of thing, but I am sure it'll be enjoyable. Hoping to get to film the hotel breakfast if Mrs Greeno doesn't mind 🙂
It really looks like a peaceful place, love the sound of the ocean 😊 I would love to eat more fish and chips but there is nothings good here in Cologne :(
Hey Greeno, you are a bit like me and not a big fan of batter, here in Australia they offer Grilled fish at the Fish and Chips shops as an option, do they offer that in the UK (I haven't lived in the UK for about 30 year so having memory issues!!) or are just ordering traditional fish and chips as that is what most people get when they go to the chippy?
Yes, you could argue that it is more expensive than some of the chippies you have visited, but that portion size is superb. Very much like the size we get up north...!
I am pretty sure I have never been to Mablethorpe. Just read some reviews of Monty's - seems they have new management this year and things not quite what they used to be perhaps ?
you do know you can buy 10 eggs for £1.33 boil and put into some white vinegar. it looks like you can share it. the fish and the chip portion size look decent enough for the price. but you only it was half the portion and do it for a £5 you cant afford to buy the fish and chips. hehehe may be a half a portion of that size for £5 would help people out. and increase sales there
I do sometimes make my own pickled eggs and pickled onions, and you’re right, they are cheaper and tasty. But I’m not gonna walk around with a jar of pickled eggs just in case I want to the the chip shop 🤣🤣🤣 Smaller portions at a lower price can certainly help, although i don’t think it could get as low as half price, the energy costs, staff costs, packaging costs are still the same.
Perhaps it would be better to say that it's not that I don't like it, I am very fussy about it. I don't like it when it is thick and the inside is stodgy. Or when it is excessively greasy. If you saw my video where I went to Callawys in Dorchester you'll have seen I noted just how light and testy the batter was there. I am one of the few people who quite like it when the fish has skin on, because I can remove the entire bottom of the batter with the skin, and just eat the fish with half the batter :-)
@@GreenoEatsDo you like breadcrumbed fish from fish and chip shops? In Scotland they’re known as Special Fish- and are usually a wee bit more expensive .
@@rosemarymee yes, fish in breadcrumbs is preferable to me, but we very rarely find that down south. Occasionally if plaice is available that will be in breadcrumbs.
