That was completely intentional. You can tell from the fact that he didn't check on the guy after doing this. If he hadn't meant to do this, most anyone would've checked to make certain that they hadn't caused serious injury.

It was intentional, but it's almost impossible to get a serious injury from a thrown basketball. That's a little dramatic, basketballs have give and are full of air, it's not like an elbow or something. Those can be bad.

People have gotten concussions and serious head trauma from getting hit in the face, as well as broken bones, fractured skull, broken/bleeding nose, and broken teeth as a direct result of being hit in the face.

I’d argue in some ways it’s worse when you get hit in the fingers, then one gets jammed or sprained that way. Worst case scenario depending on hand position, speed of the ball, etc, you might wind up breaking a finger if the ball hits just right.

I was there at that UNCC VS South Florida game… and let me tell you that whole game #11 was being a jerk so I wasn’t surprised that happend to Igor Milicic. #11 should have been thrown out of the game but the refs decided it must of been a mistake but if you throw in the ball don’t throw it up in someone’s face throw it down on their foot so it seemed like it was on purpose. (South Florida lost in the AAC semifinals and FAU won the AAC Championship)

It can definitely hurt, especially the next day. As a soccer player (goalkeeper). Yes we are trained to use our hands to block shots but commonly we block our opponents shots with other parts of our body. Yes, including our face. Got 3 concussions. Just came out from my line, got as big as possible and got stuck in the head. Did my job though, the ball didn't go in the net.

He was getting mobbed, thought to himself, "I should just out of bounds this on them". But he took too many hits and let anger or frustration get the best of him. There's just no argument that the throw at the player was unintentional. It was not a pass. It was to cause the ball to be out of bounds off of the opposing player. The only possible argument is that its not a dirty play is that it was justified (yikes) or that his aim was poor, which it does not appear to be the case.
