During the breathtaking duel of Brazil's Thiago Braz and France's Renault Lavillenie during the Men's Pole Vault Final of Rio 2016, Braz not only broke his Personal Best but also set up a new Olympic Record by jumping over 6,03m. Thiago Braz became Brazil's first male athletics Gold Medal winner since Joaquim Cruz in the 800m at Los Angeles 1984. Enjoy watching this epic and memorable moment!

Yeah it was beautiful, but I honestly don't blame Lavillenie(2nd place) for being stone faced. The crowd was really cruel to him.

@@tanishaparamba5806 i remember this day as if it happened yesterday, i remember he laughed at thiago when he decided to jump higher than his personal best and completely forgot his sportsmanship in france. so yeah, the crowd was a little cruel to him (thiago didn’t) but we cheered for sam’s bronze medal cause at least he showed some respect. no crowd would allow such disrespect to their athletes without a reaction 😉

The countries that win the most medals in the Olympics are also the countries that invest the most in sports. In Brazil only football is valued. In Brazil the other categories of sport are composed of people with high purchasing power, practice fencing, swimming, gymnastics who have a stable financial situation. Brazil does not invest in sport and therefore there are no opportunities for great talents to emerge. There are thousands of Simone Biles in Brazil who do not have the opportunity, there are thousands of Michael Phelps in Brazil but who were not fortunate enough to be born in a wealthy country where he encourages sports.

Vim do futuro para dizer que em 2021 a história se repetiu !! Thiago não era nenhum pouco cotado para receber medalha, mas com muita garra subiu na colocação e ganhou do francês na disputa pelo bronze. Além disso, continua sendo o recordista olímpico com 6.03m VAI BRASILLLLLL

And the fact that such a great champion like Renaud was booed on the podium and shamed by the brazilian public for his silver medal, crying on the podium bc of it was the single most disgusting think I have to remember of these Olympics. If all countries invested equally in sports, there would be no such hegemony of rich countries on the podium. The only distance between them is the opportunity and the incentive to sport. It is very easy to live in a world where the greatest minds and the greatest athletes are predominantly white and European, when other countries in the southern hemisphere have had their development slowed down thanks to colonialism that has slowed their progress.
