In this episode British jazz-fusion guitarist Tom Quayle drops into TPS HQ to pick up - and demo - his new pedalboard.
Tom’s astounding musicality and technique is the result of decades of intense study and dedication. His effortless, flowing lines are inspired by incredible melodic ambition, underpinned with near-boundless harmonic knowledge. Needless to say it’s an absolute pleasure to have him as a guest on the show!
After a quick overview of Tom’s development as a musician, Dan and Tom take us through the pedals on the new board, having set up some sounds for the very first time just an hour or so earlier. On the board are:

• All of Tom’s pedals are controlled by TheGigRig G2
Amps today are the Lazy J20 and Hamstead Artist 20+RT. Both are running through 1x12 Celestion Alnico Blue speakers.
Tom runs his rig in dual mono, meaning that all effects go to both amps via G2’s dual outputs, 1 and 2. All effects go in line, into the front of the amps (no effects loops).
Tom’s main guitar is his Fibernare Tom Quayle Roadmaster FB and to find out more about that, please visit www.fibenare-guitars.com/produ...

He started young, took lessons from a great teacher, learned and applied theory to his playing, was exposed to jazz/fusion, and then studied for a degree. And he practiced, with a real desire and love for the instrument and the style of music. It didn't happen by magic. Work, study, practice (and if you're still young, don't waste those formative years!).

Went to my local guitar shop to try out Toms Version 2 of the Dual Fusion... whilst trying it out, I got a bit confused with the channel 1/2 set up as did the shop owner.... So he phoned Tom and I ended up having a pedal tutoria and chat over the phone with the man himself. :-) Issues solved, pedal purchased :-)

I'm always impressed with just how quiet your rig setups are - even when just throwing some pedals together to demo with the G2. How about doing a show dedicated to just getting rid of noise in your rig? Some info on cable selection (and testing), noise suppression gear (gates, filters, buffers, pedal loops, etc. - and how to use them correctly), EMI, proper grounding, distribution, isolation (especially with multiple amps), and troubleshooting pedals. Maybe even some tips on using a digital meter for measuring the pedal draw for those of us daisy chaining power (i.e. some modulation pedals don't play well with others). You've covered bits and pieces of these things in different videos, but a single comprehensive video (or even a 2 parter) would be incredibly awesome.

What a joy to watch! Dan and Mick, you're both a tad better players than I am but I share your enthusiasm for all things guitar. So when I'm watching Tom running effortlessly up and down the fingerboard and teasing the tastiest of chords and notes out of his curiously tuned guitar, I also share the joy of your reaction. There's no jealousy or anything negative. Just the appreciation of Toms amazing skill. Lovely tones too. This is better than anything on the TV.

Great stuff. Tom's such a wonderful all round musician and nice guy. I was demonstrating for sonuus in Birmingham a couple of years ago and met him at the lick library stand was right next door. Talk about unnerving, having to play anywhere near that guy, but he came over and was lovely. For what it's worth, I bought both the voluum and already owned the wahoo before I worked for them and have gigged the hell out of them. Not only are they cutting edge and toneful but I've been attacking them with my size 13s and eighteen stones and the contents of pub floors and they're still faultless. Tom will rise to the top I'm sure, he deserves to, as does Dan's amazing gear.
