I agree, I really hate the collector lol. I understand some models may have meaning to some people but damn...every guitar I have, I bought the bare body and built it up myself. I hate getting into a bidding war with some guy trying to make 50bux, on the other hand, I'd buy and put in 250bux to play to my liking. ......when they out bid u by a dollar lol ugh.

Every time I am on Reverb, I imagine 500 guys like Trogly -- filled with knowledge and price points -- surfing the site and instantly grabbing anything that is a really good value or a really rare example. I figure anything that's been on the site more than 3 hours has already been perused and passed on by the experts. I really like these shopping videos and hearing you think out loud about what you are considering.

I definitely agree with what you said. I buy on Reverb regularly(most of my gear purchases from the last couple of years). Something came up in my feed while I was already on the site. It had literally just be listed (a minute or two), and something I really wanted at a great (almost to good to be true) price. I clicked on it went to hit the ADD TO CART button and it had already sold.

“Need to move quick” could well mean “freshly stolen, must unload” - perhaps even posted by the same jackass who stole my SG. Maybe I’m just angry at the world since my gear got stolen, but this whole “steal-collect-hoard-disguise-flip-bamboozle-rob but don’t actually play” mindset that’s come to overwhelmingly pervade every used guitar market makes me think the whole world has gone completely and irreversibly to Hell.

I bought a stolen guitar once in accident. I was a bc rich mockingbird and a Mesa tube amp for $200, I knew the price was shady but I figured it maybe was inherited and the guy just didn’t know what they were worth. But no It was stolen and I was out $200.

I’ve been watching various guitar youtubers, including you, for a LONG time. Honestly, since I was way too young to be doing so. About 6-8 years. I’ve seen some come and go, and I’m so proud to see a Chanel that I originally thought was weird and quirky, become a great established show. I’ve seen SO MUCH great progress from this channel over the years. Old channels that I watched a lot back then like glen from Specter Sound Studios have sold out, but you made progress and followed your heart. I LOVE THE SHOW. Very proud. Rock on!

The Explorer with the cutaway was horrible. I would pay no more than $1200. I could bring it back with replaced wood and a refinish. Do you ever find Les Pauls with Kahlers installed? Restored a couple back to tune o matics. Not easy. The 70's don't get enough respect. Owned and repaired a lot of Fenders and Gibsons from that era. Some klunkers, but most were very good guitars. We need more people like Trogly.
@277southtombob
@277southtombob 3 года назад
Early 70’s Fenders weren’t bad at all. The later 70’s all seemed to have microphonic pickups for some reason but put some better pickups in and keep the originals in the case for resale and there’s some good players from then.

The Gothic Explorer may have came to the store from Gibson with a case, but in the early 2000s Guitar Center would often separate the cases from the guitars and try to sell them separately for more. I believe that's part of the reason that Gibson pulled their products from GC for a little while.

The blue color on a late 1990s or so Gibson Blueshawk is called Chicago Blue. Had one, pretty good guitar, but a store was willing to give me trade in value of a few bucks more than I had actually paid for it new, and an OHSC I found for it used, towards a 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard (player's grade) at $1250, so I went for it. Later traded the '79 straight across for a friend's 2000 Les Paul Standard book matched, flame top in excellent condition that only weighed 8 lbs. The '79 weighed at least 10 lbs., but he liked the thin neck, versus the chunky 50s profile on the 2000, which I am fine with. Some day I may tell you more about the 79, it had started life with a factory installed Kahler flat whammy and it had about the thinnest neck I ever saw on the many LPs I have owned over the decades since the 1970s, and ever played in stores too. Gibson was trying to compete with Ibanez shredders on that one back in the day. They are quite rare, but mine was missing the Kahler, and the top was patched and refinished to a gold top, solid top by the two good old boys at Players Music in Jackson, TN (who had known Carl Perkins), but one of the experienced sales cats at Yarbrough's Music in Memphis, TN told me what the guitar really was, he knew his stuff. The neck was super thin, and you could see where it had once had a locking nut too. He believed the original finish was more of a tobacco sunburst. My friend was quite the tech and I believe he was refinishing it to a sparkly metallic red, etc., but I lost touch with him.

8:25 Totally agree with your assessment of prices for late '80s Les Paul Standards. I was recently looking for an '87 but didn't feel that the current asking prices were justified for what amounts to a basic no-frills version with a three piece top. I ended up going with one of the new models instead and so far I'm pretty satisfied.

The shipping prices have gone crazy on Reverb. I was looking to buy this Hamer for good money. I was paying its worth, which I would expect. However, he had shipping at *$101.99* from Georgia (to TX) and he wouldn't budge on that, so I passed. That was a couple of months ago, it's still listed & at same price. If you notice, a lot of shipping is $100+ for domestic & that's ridiculous. $50 - $60 I'm fine with, or whatever actual charges are.

Agreed, I feel that a lot of sellers list at lower prices to get more views and then try to overcharge on shipping as a way to make back the profit. It's been said in other comments already but all the good deals seem to be picked off by dealers within hours of listing, so not surprised to hear that one is still available.

Surprised I haven't really seen anything else on the Signature T from you. I bought mine brand new for 1300 in 2015. Was the last one left on MusiciansFriend. Fantastic guitar, especially for the price. The trans white was actually the thing I fell in love with right off the bat. One of those things I just had to have.

shaft9000 Some of us just find good deals and buy it without going through the extra effort of making an offer. If I were buying to resell of course I would definitely try to get the price down, but if you’re buying something that you intend to keep and the price is already good I would rather just buy it without any extra steps in the process. However, I will say that since Reverb is charging sales tax on its own now for most states I might start making offers now.

I love these shows. It is great to see what's out there and get a good idea of what to pay.It seems to me that most of the guitars are listed at much higher then there value.

Yeah I've been noticing the same, I guess gone are the days to find a great deal on Reverb huh?

@@alabamahebrew Yes there are still good deals on other makes like old MIJ that are from about 1990 up. Like Ibanez and Fernandes for under $250.00 USD. great to play and can later be sold with a few bucks more.These things often reach $1000.00 very quickly I bought 2 this year that have already. I find quirky and Retro styles with loud paint jobs jump the quickest.

I found your site a couple months, when I discovered chibsons. I’ve always played strats, and recently I got to play an E175, I think. But I became hooked by the look and feel. Then I found chibson, and being a retired LAPD guy, I became interested in the legalities. I want to help keep people from getting scammed, just like you. I think the internet has room for a guitar legalities channel? I am now look for a real Gibson LP.
