Happy New Year to all! Here I reflect on some of the major things I did in my pottery journey including making Shape Cast (shapecastmolds.com) and look into 2024 of things I am thinking of tackling.
Well!! That was a lot of information. I have just received my first 3D printer, so as an accomplished ceramicist I am looking at the box with great fear. I look forward to continuing to follow your journey but also looking back at numerous episodes that will help my, just starting, printing journey. Thanks again.
Congrats on getting a printer! There is a learning curve for sure, but the newer printers are much much better. This is another area where I wonder if I might be able to help - getting people off the ground. So do reach out if you have questions.
Keep it up! I'm looking forward to the next iterations of ShapeCast! Personally, I am hoping to use it for multi-part molds. Waiting patiently for ShapeCast to support this and for now am enjoying watching your videos/process
Have you considered just selling ceramic moulds themselves? I know that there isn't a lot of options on the current British market - many come from turkey and the delivery for them is extortionate
Shipping plaster around seems like a bad idea! It's heavy and rather fragile. What I have considered is selling 3D prints so you could make your own mold by just adding plaster. The 3d prints would be much easier to ship. In that case there are a few options ranging from just providing the print to something more ready to go out of the box where the inserts and gasket are already in place. Likewise, there is bespoke designs like what shape cast supports now, to a select few of "stock" designs.
@@PotterybyKent that's a great idea - I know I would be happy to pay £40-£50 for a finished 3d print of the mould with the gaskets and inserts. another idea would be to do moulds and dry plaster combo packages with enough plaster for one mould or set up a business link to a plaster wholesaler where if people click the link on your website, you get a commission for the plaster sold.
@@PotterybyKent also maybe having some prototypes to show at ceramic shows would go down well - maybe make a couple of 3d scans for local pottery fairs and ask people how much they would be willing to spend on it
