That time when Denmark won the Euros ⚽️ 

When Germany heard, we had beaten the Nederlands in the semifinal, they went ahead with all the arrangements of the celebration of the upcoming German championship. To the last piece! Someone must have gotten red ears!

Small football detail. Peter Schmeichel (the Great Dane) only rarely kicked the ball out, when he had in his hands. Usually he threw it very accurately to a danish player. Quite often placed near the middle line of the field!

I was like 7 in 92'...still remember where i was at the night of the final! You wont see a better underdog story than Denmark in 92. We didnt even qualify...Only got to the tourney because of a war! And then went on to win it all...

Uh uh uhhh!!! Up until the miraculous Summer of '92, our greatest achievement in football was the silver medals at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome... Sidenote: I had been in Venezuela working, and watched a couple of the group games at a bar. Flying back to Copenhagen on an SAS flight (after the final had been played), we're approaching the airport, when the captain says, "as you may know, Denmark played Germany in the final... I'll see if I can get the score for you that are interested." A moment later he says, "2-0" - but without indicating which team won. Everybody was looking at eachother. Arriving at the terminal we realize just exactly who had won! Holy CRAP! 🤯🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 On the drive home to South Sjælland, all the Swedes had gratulatory messages in their car windows and Danish flags too. That was a _really_ fine moment that still chokes me up with pride. Thanks for bringing this very memorable clip! Stay safe guys and have a great Summer! 👍🇩🇰🇺🇸🇩🇰🇺🇸

Just a little heads up, Denmark gets the BEST support from Swedish spectators (not when we are playing each other ofc, duh!)! Look at footage from the game, and see super commited swedish spectators shouting their lungs out ... Don't be mistaken, there is a lot of love between Nordic countries!

Great to have Mike back.🙂 I have a limited knowledge about Football, but I _am_ old enough to remember the victory of 1992 (which we are still praising). Everyone (almost) went to the bars after the win, and I still recall the unreal euphoria that night. 🤩

I was 13 - Germany was worldchampions at the time and our big neighbors to the south. I remember one of the mocking songs being sung afterwards:"Tyskland er et tegneseriehold" (Germany is a cartoon team). It was indeed a great summer! I still have a collection of newspaper clippings published during the tournament... 😂

You say, the semis were the farthest we had gotten ever. Not true. Denmark were also in the semis at euro 1984. Lost to spain in penalties. Elkjær missed the final shot with his shorts split open. Very iconic... Up to that point, we had (after a narrow 1-0 defeat against France) demolished none other than... Jugoslavia 6-1 and made a huge comeback against Belgium (from 2-0 down to a 3-2 victory). That was the OG Danish Dynamite team. The 92 team were the heirs that finally took the win with clever tactics and team spirit. "Summer of 92" is a wonderful movie by the way. Has one of the best locker room peptalk scenes ever. And it's actually very similar to "Miracle". "I can't promise, we'll be the best team, but we will be the best conditioned..." Sounds very much like something "Ricardo" (nickname of national coach of Denmark 92) would have said. And also a story of how a coach struggling with a bit of arrogance learns how to put the comradery and winning spirit into his team. It's just beautiful.

It can not be overemphasized how much it meant that it was Germany we beat fair and square. While politics and sport shouldn't mix it happens inevitably. When the underdog played a newly unified Germany, literally every other nation in Europe stood with the underdog and it didn't help that the Germans were extremely arrogant and took victory for granted. Denmark had 600 million cheering fans that summer.

My favorite Danish national team is either 1984 or 1986. Still to this day I love watching the old highlights for those teams. A fun fact. The only team to beat Italy in the 1982 WC qualitiers and the WC itself was Denmark 3-1.

Michael Laudrup was too "good" to play for our national team in 1992 - he declined 🤣🤣🤣 😆 But his more modest little brother got the medal 😊

Danish football was first professionalized in the 1980's, meaning that you could not make a living off it and had to have a day job before. The 1980's national teams were the first generation of professional players and thus normally where we consider the story of the Danish national team to begin. Before then amateurs played for the national team. Curiously matematician Harald Bohr won silver at the 1908 olympics and his more famous brother and Nobel prize winner Niels Bohr played for Akademisk Boldklub.

My family and I found out we were Euro champions after the Greek customs agents asked us where all the booze was. "Why would we have any booze?" my dad asked. We'd been going down through Europe and had no idea Denmark was even playing.

What's Danish for "first"? Haha

A bit disappointed (just a bit) in you Mike. Uncharacteristically, you missed that at the same time we voted NO to the Maastrict treaty😝 (pretty big deal at the time) A very special summer, indeed.

We did without a doubt play some of the worst football under Ricardo and the fact we didnt qualify for the 92's say's it all and to be fair we didnt even play well in the 92'tournament , i hated watching them play at that time, as a lover of "positive" attacking football, Ricardo was the Mourinho or Diego Simione of that time BUT.. you cannot take away from him ,that he and the team won us the biggest trophy in our football history so far
