type of song that one returns to in the 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's and now 20's

Terry Kath, the singer in this song, was aprox 21/22 years old. He passed away at 32 years old due to an accident with a gun.

Actually, that's Pete Cetera singing lead

I love how Pete called Terry home by sitting his bass note on A and not playing the changes. It's a bass player trick when there's a group improv! 😆

You just witnessed one of the greatest live guitar solos of all time. Terry Kath was a genius and one of the best guitar players of all time. Taken from us so soon. RIP guitar master. 🎸🔥

This concert was in July 1970. Guitar player Terry Kath was killing time while a stagehand was fixing Danny Seraphine's drum set. It was in the middle of the concert, not a warm-up. The horn section was integral to the band, they were formed as a rock band with horns and came out around the same time as Blood, Sweat and Tears. The song was written by keyboard player Robert Lamm, the title references the time on his watch as he struggled in the middle of the night writing the song. He saw it was either 25 minutes or 26 minutes to 4 AM (3:35 AM or 3:34 AM).

Great that you love Chicago and it's fine to hear why you appreciate their music due to your experience with high school band.

My school band played this all the time for sports games. Twice they even had someone play the guitar solo. It was cool. We were a school of 300 kids (k-12), which i think makes it cooler ❤

It's as easy to get hooked on Chicago as it is with Pink Floyd. When you continue this new journey, I highly recommend their first album, Chicago Transit Authority, first track, Introduction. It's a Banger Extraordinaire.

This entire concert “Chicago At Tanglewood 1970” you can watch for free on RU-vid. Not only was Terry Kath one of the greatest guitarists ever, he also had an excellent singing voice.

Want to know what Jimi Hendrix said about Terry Kath, Chicago's guitar player? Like pretty much everyone who came to see the band perform, Hendrix was mesmerised by Kath's guitar playing, going so far as to claim that he thought the Chicago guitarist played six strings better than he did, naming Kath the “best guitarist in the universe”. High praise indeed.

Another great live performance to check out would be Frankenstein by The Edgar Winter Group. ✌️🖖

He didn't say, "Take Care!" - but he said, "Terry Kath!" - that was the keyboard player and writer, Robert Hamm that said it. Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, and Robert Hamm all had leads in different songs. Jimi Hendrix spoke very highly of Terry Kath. Sadly, in 1978 Terry took a revolver to his head, thinking it was not loaded... bang! Very sad ending for Kath. Please give a tribute band a try that does many Chicago songs, "Leonid and Friends" - if you watch them, not only do they sound very similar to Chicago, but they give Chicago a very solid name!
