In my personal opinion, this video is a great example of minimalist camping. The equepmant is less and effective, but conversation is more .Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks for taking us along. The trolls can shove it. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry (USA). To hot to go into the woods right now. Come on fall .
Great stuff. So it’s basically napalm! Perfect for wet weather fire lighting. Great video and keep the tea going, if an empire can be built on the stuff I’m sure RU-vid videos can 😉
The fire starter paste looked good, certainly simpler than the process of disolving egg shells in vinegar, and using that to gel alcohol (diy sterno). Also reminds me another paste, but used hardwood ash and kerosene to make a paste, think that was over on Waypoint Survival's channel.
I carry some tinder, old Lollie/popsickle sticks, cotton buds of vaseline - stop it! - glucose and Potassium Permanganate, stored separately of course. I collect small tinder on my way in if a dry day but have back ups. I was thinking to have a designated tinder box, but i spread it throughout packs, oh and i have shredded newspaper, tree bark, twigs, bog roll centres - which i use to make a fire log - take said tube, fill with combustible material, dowse with fuel and place in paper bag and then plastic zip bag - at camp take from zip bag, place to where desired for fire and ignite for the use of.
Cracking video Des, I thought that fire lighter was you Honey butter at first lol 😂, I not seen the video on making that so I will give it a go looks cheap to make and has a good burn time 👍, I always has spare army ration in my pack all the time as you never know when you will need them. I be at the bushcraft show 👍
Thanks Dave I must say that would be sacrilege using the honey butter. Yeah give that paste a shot. Yeah I've never understood that with the ration thing. See you at the show
Great vid Des good projects I’ll have to make some of that fire gel 👍 Hope to bump into you at the Bushcraft show, I’ll be on the Wilderness Tribe stand 😃
A brew in the woods is habitual and should not be frowned upon. I like the idea of the soap fire lighter, works well, I'll have to do a mix myself now, cheers 👌🏻
Love your videos…that stuff is what we called Fugas or home made Napalm in the US Army one of my MOS training from years ago…you have basically slowed the burning and lowering temperature….we had a lot of useful things for that mix from lighting airstrips to land mines or perimeter defense. Not something I would want in my car everyday but I wouldn’t carry a full gas can either. Love the fishing rod can’t wait to see how it works. Have fun stay safe.
Nice one Des, good skills as always. Was that coffee that you were drinking at the beginning or just some sort of hot milkshake!! Agree with your sentiment about drinking brews on the videos. Most of my videos are of me doing exactly that! That fishing rod looked quite neat. Nice hack too, although I don't think Anders will approve of you calling him Dutch! I don't bother with any of that home made firelighting malarkey nowadays, I just forage for a couple of quails egg shells while I'm out, rub them together and blammo, you get a spark. It works 60% of the time, every time! 👍
Great video bruv, some top tips to take on board, especially carrying some food/rations with you, as a side during my old job across the water the naughty boys used to add soap flakes to the petrol bombs to make the contents stick to whatever or whoever they were throwing them at so using the same principle as you have demonstrated mate.
ok wait- shaved or grated bar soap will hold the fuel… very cool. how about a corn starch slurry? would using a liquid fuel still have the newtonian properties (surface tension but pourable)?
Thanks for sharing Des, love this sort of stuff. Question for you and hopefully you can help out? I have just bought the same Bergan from someone on eBay and it seems to come with a back plate support which was in the box but not inserted in the back. I have tried and tried to insert it but it just seems way too big to fit, any suggestions would be appreciated please mate.
Enjoyed that Des thanks bud. Just a thought. Would it be possible to add some kind of insect repellent to the mix of soap? Could act as a long burn mozzy repellent. Laters dude. 🔥🙂
Likey alot mate...burn time seemed pretty good! The difference between a fire and no fire...i know what id choose in a situation...not nice freezing your ass off through the night and no matter what the temperature during the day, the difference between the day and night hits you like a ton of bricks and your muscles cramp up. Thanks for sharing...im going to give it a try. Oh, that bannock bread sounded lush
I like seeing, bushcraft videos Des. I appreciate, you doing great camp crafts. 🏕 Also, passing on other folks vids. Is very honorable, 🎖and informative. Thanks mate cheers 🍻
