@@Jerler91 The thing is HD rumble is not only a trademark of Nintendo but also another company's tech that even Nintendo have to sign contact with so the process for a third party to get the feature in legally is stupidly complex for anyone to try. And if you ask me, I'd rather have no rumble than having traditional rumble trying to fake HD rumble
I am not in the mood to watch 15 minutes now, in short: what does this Controller have that others dont? It is more expensive than the pro controller yet doesnt even have all the same functionality?
@@IAmNotASandwich453 The main one is (and probably the only reason why anyone would every want to pay that much for a controller without ramble): There are 4 additional buttons on the back that can be mapped to anything. Other minor points are: Better quality D-pad than the pro controller You can switch the colour of the controller from black to white (there is a plaque you can remove on top) Replacing sticks is easier, and it comes with two spare sticks Audio jack (that only works when the controller is wired to the switch) [Still, this is not something I would consider buying personally]
@@MoiMagnus1er ive already watched it by now, but thank you. I am seriously wondering what they were thinking, releasing such a controller for this price. For what it offers, it basically is mostly worth 50, but I would probably tend more towards 40-45.
I bought a controller from Amazon, that was cheaper than the pro controller, but has nearly all the same qualities that a pro controller has. No HD rumble, but there is rumble.
You might never see this comment, but I'll tell you that I really like your videos. You feel genuine and honest. I can tell you enjoy making them, and I honestly think that if a little more people were as positive as you are, the world would be a better place for everyone. Keep being you. Cheers from Chile.
@@patrickplus9815 And you can get a cheap $20 dongle and use that controller on the Switch anyway. The fact that this is essentially a Switch exclusive controller without NFC or rumble OF ANY KIND is absolutely absurd. If it costs as much as or more than the official product, there should be no compromises *period.*
Srsly I could care less about rumble but I could also care less about the extra buttons you usually find on pro controller alternatives. Sorry powerA if I had 100$ I'd spent in on a pro controller and miitopia.
@LC Kompithra Nintendo won't let them have rumble and NFC on third party controllers. If you see the same versions of the controller on Xbox and PS, they have rumble. But all legal third party controllers for the switch neither have rumble nor NFC. It's a copyright issue. They would implement it if they could.
I used the back paddle buttons on the Steam controller so I could sprint without taking my thumbs off the right touchpad. It's handy with some games. Motion control is also helpful with this idea (see Metroid Prime 3).
i got an 8bitdo pro 2 and still haven't assigned anything to the additional buttons edit also half the price os this power A and better built, but only 2 extra buttons instead of 4
The 8bitdo pro 2 is the best Nintendo switch controller, period! As for the extra buttons I have only ever used just two of the back buttons. I end up removing 2/4 of the elite series 2 (for Xbox Series X) or scuff (PS5).
It’s a controller for “hardcore gamers”. Most “hardcore gamers” feel that rumble is an unwanted distraction. It’s absolutely made for 1st person competitive shooters. Most people will have a different platform for said competitive shooters, but with apex out this is a great option for those that do not have another system. Otherwise it’s a waste
Let's not forget that you can use this controller on PC, where, if you want a "pro" controller for shooters, this is an xbox elite 2 for half the price
Nice controlpad - with headjack, changeable face plates and back buttons (which I'll gladly use to remap the left/right stick button presses!). Lovely!
I think the back paddles could be a bit helpful for some speedruns or for precise movements in a fighting game or something, though their placement could be problematic
Something about the long set of thumbsticks- They're specifically useful for FPS games. It does force you to use a larger range of motion for your thumbs, but that range of motion also means it's easier to get precise tilt angles, which means aiming will be easier. A similar thing goes for using a mouse to aim, where using a lower mouse sensitivity makes small adjustments in your aim easier, which usually makes accurate shots easier. Still, it does mean more work for your hands/thumbs.
Mainly for shooters, assign buttons to jump, reload, switch weapon, etc to the back so that you never have to get caught with your thumb off the analog stick
Here's the thing, this is the equivalent of the Xbox elite controller, Power A also makes their own version of that and according to a lot of people, the sticks don't last very long and they aren't easy to replace. Apparently the paddles aren't super durable either
I've seriously been thinking of getting a set of Binbok joycons. They hold like the Split Pad Pro, they have rumble (no HD, though) and they have gyro. You can also use them disconnected from the Switch, and have a connector so you can use them like a Pro Controller. The joysticks even have changeable LED ring lighting around them. All that for about 50-60 bucks.
With the paddle placement I think its great, right where your fingers naturally sit, makes using them way easier compared to older systems on other controllers.
I agree. I bought the mayflash magic-ns adapter just because the switch is lacking in the diversity of controllers. a lot of them are more for novelty and not built with hardcore players in mind.
@@loneravenue432 idc. I just buy controller which are already good. Bought a power a once. Already broken out of the box. Never again. Tells me everything i have to know about the company.
I’ve been looking at this controller for a while now just waiting for it to release and as soon as I could’ve bought it all of them sold out but now I bought it
I primarily play Xbox and the Elite1/2 controllers are the best controllers I've personally ever used on any system, including SCUFF IMO. The paddles are the number one feature for me. The paddles are great for any game where taking your thumb off the right stick, even for a part of a second, can be detrimental. I pretty much only play Switch for Nintendo exclusive games and when I'm traveling. That being said when i play the switch in a hotel in docked mode Nintendo's Pro controller is ok, but just doesn't cut it for Overwatch. I'm so trained to use the Elite, I can barely function without them now. I as with my Elites I map a paddle for jump, reload, sprint, and a variable for specific to which character I'm playing. I bought the Fusion Pro specifically for the paddles, and although its not quite an Elite, its pretty darn good for just over half the price. The build quality is really good. The buttons do make a bit of noise as there's a tiny bit of play side to side, which honestly is not noticeable for me when playing. I had to see if my Elite 2 had any slack side to side in the buttons. It does, maybe not quite as much, but still some. Anyway, this is the best Switch controller i've used, and I don't think you'll be disappointed especially if you specifically want it for the paddles.
When I first saw this controller, I was VERY interested in it. Without any rumble, this is a hard pass for me. Thank you for the review. And more cats in your vids, please! :-)
They can't implement NFC and rumble because they are features that Nintendo won't let them use. If you see the Xbox and PS Fusion pro controllers they have rumble. This is why all legal third party controllers for the switch don't have rumble or NFC
I got a pdp wired deluxe that has all of that except its wired and the faceplates don’t come off and its honestly been the best controller over ever had. It’s smooth durable and it has leds and 2 mappable buttons all for 20 bucks at your local walmart. Perfect for speed running Metroid dread or botw
I like this kind of review. Feels like a very natural and honest overview. But can it be that Nintendo reserve the HD Rumble and NFC for their own controllers? Because I can´t remember seein anyone with this features
My question is why have so many other people failed to mention this controller lacks rumble up untill i watched this video... Oh wait i do know, It's because they're getting a kickback from people purchasing through them. It pisses me off how I watched three people before this fail to mention that this controller lacks such a basic feature as rumble. How can anyone in good consciousness call themselves a reviewer yet fail to mention such a monumentally basic feature. Thank you Nintendo Life for candor work in helping me to save some money.
Personally, I could take or leave HD rumble and nfc. Doesn’t mean much to me. The overall material quality and anti-friction rings on the fusions are almost worth the price alone for me. Both of my standard pro controllers have grind marks, so the anti-friction is really great and feels super smooth. Not to mention the D-pad feels better, and the buttons don’t feel quite as loose as the standard pros.
As a person who played Fenyx immortals rising on the switch I could’ve definitely used this controller for the extra buttons. I remapped the controls but i still just needed a couple extra buttons. Also my regular pro controller has developed some minor drift so I’m willing to try something different.
This is 100% what I was thinking, this is what I needed for Fenyx Immortals Rising on switch, definitely could have used extra buttons there. I remapped mine as well and finally found something that ALMOST works. Problem is it’s so expensive….
I like back paddles to replace R3 and L3 to save the sticks from being damaged. I used a paddles adaptor on my dual shock 4's. Most of them the Run button (which is L3) stops responding accurately.
Hi Alex. Could you tell me if the fusion has Analog triggers? I'm desperate to find a good controller for racing games. I use the power A Nano, which I'm pretty happy with, but its not good enough for throttle control on more serious racing games. (namely Grid) Please help me, any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated. Thanks Jeff 👍
I can see the applications for the extra triggers. I play a LOT of Paladins, a LOT LOT. The problem is the reload, jump, and ultimate buttons are on the face. This means you have to be good with a crab grip (spoilers I'm not), to keep aiming while doing those actions. With those extra triggers, jumping while still aiming is very much a thing. This is important for characters that use a lot of jumping and aiming at the same time (I'm looking at you Drogoz). I'm sure other competitive shooters have similar issues. I only wish Nintendo would have allowed for some kind of rumble, it's a blemish on an otherwise mighty looking controller. Still, for what it offers it's not that much more than a standard Pro controller. For me I'm willing to give it a go, and hopefully it's worth it.
I first got a Power A controller for the PS3 and while it wasn't perfect it was overall very solid and styled like a XBox 360 controller. Since then they have actually got far better at making good quality controllers. Probably down to the fact they also get licensed to make official products for most systems now. So for me they quickly become one of the best options out there. I even use one for my PC and the only thing I might say could be off putting for the one (Xbone Spectra) is the rumble is actually really strong compared to most controllers, if you consider that bad.
does it support wire communication ? , how good is the gyro in splatoon ??? are the sticks better than the switch pro controller ???? how good is the dpad when playing tetris really fast ??
Hey I have an issue with mine where when I put the faceplate on the sticks don’t work right, not drift but when I move it toward the bottom it doesn’t go out of the calibration circle, how do I fix that?
My thoughts exactly! Mine enhanced wireless controller from PowerA started to drift about 3 months after I got it. I really liked it before all this happened only to find out it was quite common issue.
@@TontonGahu Oh ok. I just saw videos saying you can assign the paddles to any button on the controller, so I thought that included the screenshot button. my bad :(
Does the switch show the battery life of this controller because some wireless controllers don’t show the battery life when their connected wirelessly?
i will say that once you get used to back paddles depending on the game they can be great. there are some games on xbox/ pc that because i have an elite series 2 controller i never use the face buttons i map everything to the paddles and just use them. It is game dependent though. it diddnt work for me with nier automata but platformers moving jump to paddles i find helps and you can always map l3/r3 which suck to paddles
I had my Nintendo switch prowera fusion controller for a month now and iam just know started noticing very bed lagging in the joy stick when I play Pokémon games and just trying to select certain games are going on the eshop it act like it has a mind of its own have any had this issue with there controller
I have a problem with mine. It died right, no biggie so I just go to charge it right, it doesn’t charge. I’ve tried everything, different cords, plugging it into the console port, directly into the wall, everything and it still won’t charge. Can anyone help me? I can’t find info on this issue anywhere
I just came here to say. In Subnautica, you can use left trigger as an A substitute. There is button mapping. Complete game changer when I realised this
I bought one earlier today and was not satisfied. Aside from the No rumble and no NFC, I experienced issues with the analog stick and decided to calibrate it and notice I can’t even recalibrate the controller. In addition to that, the sticks don’t even rotate to a full circle. when you tilt them directly left or the top it doesn’t reach the edge on the calibration screen. Not satisfied.
This was a great video. I am pretty much in the same mind as you. The paddles would become a problem for me too and would probably remove them. A plus is, they thought ahead and made it possible. Nintendo does that. The no rumble? Eh, the most I use it for is Animal Crossing and guessing what kind of fish may come up. All of the accessories I am all in on the price for that. Again, they are probably planning ahead for other stuff. Nintendo does that. But to replace the Pro Controller.....not yet.
When playing Pokémon Snap, there were a couple of times when I wished taking a picture was a trigger. I can see there being some themed face plates for this controller if sells well. Personally, my pro controller still performs like a champ, and I have no desire to replace it. The only additional controllers that interests me are the up coming Zelda themed joy con. Even then, I really don’t need more joy con, and I’m worried about drift problems.
I haven't played pokemon snap, but you can change button layouts in the switch settings. You might end up having to press the trigger to press a though.
I found the extra buttons useful in games when you need to hold B to sprint, or just games where you need to hold a button, not really necessary but can be helpful in some situations, granted I don't own a Switch one, just an X Box controller with similar paddle like buttons, shame about the lack of rumble though, I would really like the fusion Pro Controller otherwise.
Hey Alex try to compare that to the Playstation 4 and Xbox one elite/pro/premium offerings, why? just to se what it has and what it lacks as a premium controller
Thanks for the review. I think that Nintendo has to come up with a similar controller, but there are some limitations with this powerA like it does not have NFC/amiiBo. I hope Nintendo will get the non-friction switches under the thumbsticks. This controller is still not available here in Canada. I looked at the Gulit King Kong Pro 2 but none are available at this moment.
Just bought it, it's perfect except 1 thing... Both faceplates aren't made perfectly. When you use the left joystick it doesn't have 100% full range, I'm playing pokemon arceus and the walking turns into a slow walk when you move left or downward left with the joystick. As soon as you play with no faceplate, you get 100% full rotation, so you gotta play with no faceplate or deal with this. The gamer in me can simply shave or file down that side to make it an easy fix OR I can try to get another with faceplate that were designed better. Is there a way to fix this without trying to break/file the faceplate down or do I need to return it and hope for a better one?
you can go into controller settings and modify how far the stick has to be away from the center before it recognizes a maximum input, not that this addresses the issue, but it can help
Is this controller compatible with pc? The standard Pro Controller is detected as Direct Input which isn't favorable compared to Xinput that Xbox controllers have on PC. I can get the Xbox controller, but I want to play both on my Switch and PC
I think those buttons on the back would be incredibly helpful for people with disabilities that cause pain or restriction of movement, grip, dexterity or coordination (like me). This will help so much (if I can ever afford to buy it) with skills and moves that are manually complex for me. Honestly, I had trouble doing a lot of the moves in SSX Tricky long ago (PS1 or 2?). And currently, with Breath of the Wild, on things like that specialty spinning attack move that can cause a lot of damage but is achieved by pressing several buttons at once with precise timing.
I would be completely happy with just a headphone jack on a wireless controller like the PS4 did. Headphones are so cheap and the sound can be vastly improved over just a TV. It seems many of us do not have Bluetooth TVs?
The Xbone/Series X have haptic rumble in the triggers, though it's an earlier version of the tech. PS5 has the same HD rumble as the Switch pro controller (literally from the same manufacturer) and has adaptive tension triggers.
@@flarfschnikelman6780 There isn't any policy preventing it, they are generally removed for cost saving reasons. HD rumble especially, as it's made by a specific manufacturer and so the 3rd parties would have to go through them and not being able to reserve as large of a bulk makes it cost more per controller compared to Sony/Nintendo.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 No. Nintendo doesn't allow any licensed controller to use HD rumble or NFC. It's not a cost saving thing. If you do research then you will see that no licensed Switch controller has NFC or HD rumble. Not a coincidence, or cost-saving thing, because someone would have done that and amped up the price. The PS and Xbox versions of the Fusion pro have HD rumble.
@@flarfschnikelman6780 lol, except your 100% imcorrect. The StarPlayer Switch controller does have NFC support for Amiibo. Some of the Horipads also have NFC as well and so on. You didn't do a good job researching 3rd party controllers did you? Some have dual motor rumble, which isn't as percise as HD Rumble, but as stated, it's cheaper. You compared this to the PS and Xbox equivalent Elite controllers as to why it isn't cost reasons, those controllers cost more than this one. This is market at a price to make people feel like it's elite, but not too high that they avoid buying it. If there was a policy against 3rd party controllers using anything, the 3rd parties would have already said that was the case when asked about why features are missing.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 As I said, only licensed controllers don't have those features. And regular rumble is allowed, as well as dual motor rumble, but not HD rumble.
i got it for 70 dollars and it literally started drifting on week 2. also, you can put the smaller paddles on the lower row if the big ones bother you (thats what i do for splatoon 3, since i am a dualie main i use one for rolling)
Looks like the regular Power A pro controller. Which already has 2 remappable buttons built in. Can't remap them to the sticks on that one. Not sure if this one can 🤔
where can i learn English where i can daily say "blooming" as an expletive, and the phrase, "it's like beating a dead horse"? All jokes aside, thank you, you have helped me to buy a solid controller for my son. He always yanks the headphones in excitement when they are connected to the system, which is why i bought this controller to mitigate any frenzied excitement that will bash the console.
I think Nintendo doesn't allow TP companies to use or license their HD rumble. I have third party controllers with rumble on the switch and they feel terrible.
