#072/209 owner here. Boost hits 22psi. My 4th Subaru, this one has the best balance. Love it. But I do miss the rumble and was hoping for 400hp but that’s okay
I wish I could afford but for my second Subaru it’s cheaper to just buy an sti and swap for a built closed deck 257 and rotated. Much cheaper like $40k
This car tickles me, too, Miles🤣 Love the visceral, old school, theatric feel of these STI’s. Hope they hold onto that as much as they reasonably can for the next gen WRX/STI. It’s easy to laugh the S209 off as just another special edition WRX, but it sounds like these are some pretty legit upgrades! I’m not enough of a Subaru collector enthusiast to shell out the $64k, so I’d probably just get a regular STI and make these changes myself.
This is a VERY special car and I think it looks great with those flared fenders. I think it looks BEAUTIFUL it is a manual and it is a corner carver! I applaud Suburau for finally bringing it to us. It is a handcrafted, INSTANT collectible for those who can afford it and make no mistake, the price will only go up in the aftermarket after these 209 are sold out. With that said, for me, right now, with my job this is a hard sell. If I did not have my two cars right now I could get one but I really need two cars for me and my family. Good thing this car is sporty and has a usable back seat and trunk which "might" make it an easier sell if you are trying to convince your wife. Congrats to those who can afford it because they will have something very special on their hands. This is one of those cars that will go under the radar for the masses except for those in the know and they will appreciate it for what it is. Thanks for sharing. BTW If I had the money I would go for the pearl white and gold rims.
They are taken off the Subaru production line, and shipped to Koryo Kogyou, the Subaru specialist vehicle factory abut 30 minutes away. They can only produce 2 cars each day. STI is the registered manufacturer, not Subaru. Same for my S208 #78/450. Even though I bought it three years ago, I could sell it here for the same price, maybe a little more as mine is relatively low mileage.
I love this car, but I would consider it only if it cost $45k which for some it still might be expensive, but considering its rarity $45k is good. For $64k if I was looking for a smaller car, I would get a BMW M2 Competition with a manual. If it had to be 4 doors I would get an Audi RS3, but the car I would really get would be a Dodge Charger Widebody Scat Pack.
Great review Miles. I agree that the tact on fender flares and other holes look aftermarket and are not attractive. For $65k I'm going Shelby GT350 but that is me. This STI is overpriced by at least $10k when looking at what was done. The engine internals upgrade on the engine is what I find most attractive about this STI. The intercooler spray button is my favorite button.
Totally, Blake. The engine upgrades and inter cooler spray is awesome, but $65K is steep considering what else is available at that price (it’s GT350 for me too!)
For $64k just buy any used STI in any body style you like, spend $20k for a 400-500hp built engine, and it will still be less expensive than this. I love my 05 STI but I can’t imagine spending this much for a VA chassis and the minor upgrades it has.
