The byes are somewhat mitigated by the fact that the higher seeded players don’t get the easier matchups early on to warm up. Their first matches are against already warmed up opponents

Question. Ben Johns and Tyler Loong both said they were asked and took pay cuts. But you keep saying "No PPA players have been asked to take pay cuts" So which is true?

At the 46 minute mark they compare the reductions being asked and given and and how some players have had to take different reductions. 15% of a million dollar contract is less of a pain than 30% of 200k contract.

@@800over I get that. But they both say multiple times PPA players weren't asked to take cuts. That isn't a factual statement.

YEAH! I thought I saw a bunch of "skitter serves" at Masters... I thought the new serve technique might have been that cause, and wanted to ask player(s) what their thoughts were - thanks for confirming what I thought I saw....

while the PPA and MLP give everyone a (theoretical) salary, the APP has done the opposite. They are doing merit based entry fee waivers (top 10 in an event, medal winners) and have put all their money into the prize pool.

It will be interesting if this becomes the norm for the future after these 3 year contracts or if APP comes back to appearance fee system in the future.

Which paddle is testing too hot??! Is it the new Paddletek ALW-C? I just picked it up recently and after break-in it’s insane. Feels delaminated but it’s only been a week. I need some validation..

Interesting. I was wondering if it was the Gearbox Pro. A pb paddle reviewer told me in an email that their Gearbox Pro was becoming hotter and hotter. They stopped using it.

so if Ben Colin and Catherine did make the recommendation for the new serve. Who got affected by it? From the matches i watched Tyson and Barr didn't get called once for an illegal serve, but Ben did twice, and lost in the 1st round.

I think most of the penalties took place during qualifying...then it seemed like the players got used to "releasing" the ball in the new method. Still a lot of room for ambiguity in my opinion. I only saw 3-4 serves penalized in games I played in my last two events.

Well Rafa Nadal and Jokovich meet in the finals playing the same amount of matches is poor reference. Because if AB and James met ALW and BJ they both would have played the same amount of matches too. If a lower seeded player met a top rated team in finals. then yes they would not play the same amount of matches.

Another question. Jilly you have like a 5.8 DUPR singles vs ALW who has like a 6.1 . She has beaten every one and rate number 1. Yet you were seeded last singles at # 33 with a .3 of a rating in DUPR less?? I know PPA tourney goes by points but I have never seen you beat ANY top player but your DUPR is almost the same as hers. To me either she is way low or you are way high. How can your two DUPR's be so close? I am just more questioning the validity of DUPR ratings. Maybe I just don't understand DUPR ratings. Thank You

Actually a .3 difference in DUPR is a HUGE difference. A 6.1 player should beat a 5.8 almost every time. I haven't played singles in a while, but I did beat Irina T, Mary B, Vivienne David, Callie Smith and Lauren Stratman among others and have gone toe to toe in 3 game matches vs Lea Jansen.

Why are there even salaries for PPA players? Isn’t that what tournament prize money and endorsements are for??

That is how both leagues got players to sign with them....contracts.

@@800overI understand how MLP would have contracts but I would think the PPA would be more like how the ATP/WTA operate in tennis.

You could look at PGA/LIV and see the same trend. The tours are trying to guarantee sponsors that the "biggest players and names" will be locked in to encourage them to also sign multi-year agreements (like Vulcan deal at $10mm over 3 years)
