These are my 10 favorite and least favorite coaster restraints! Music in this video, as found in the RU-vid Audio Library: Intro music: Arc of the Sun Theme Music: Black Vulture Background music: Scanline
I have never had any pain with the newer B&M vest restraints, I personally find them incredibly comfortable. I can see how they can hinder airtime on dive coasters but on winged and inverted coasters, I think they are definitely more comfortable than the old B&M over the shoulder restraints. As someone who isn't very tall, I get a lot of head baning on coasters like raptor at Cedar Point. Banshee is actually one of my favorite coasters and I have never personally gotten stapled on it.
I have never had a problem with them either. I also can get a lot of headbanging with their ORSR, especially on Raptor. Wing coasters & flyers would be guaranteed constant headbanging if not for the vest restraints. On the dive coasters with vest restraints, if you don't staple yourself, you will still get good airtime. Most people tend to staple themselves without realizing it.
I've definitely been stapled on a B&M hyper, but it is by far the best type of restraint to be stapled with. Personally, it doesn't take too much away.
Lol - I’m getting back into roller coasters as I’m losing weight and Skyrush was the first major coaster I was able to go on. The restraints people hate are sometimes the best ones for bigger people
Restraints really can make or break a ride. Take Storm Runner for example. It used to have those hard plastic over the shoulder restraints, and back then, it was just a pain machine. Then, they put on those vest restraints, and it's amazing now.
What's weird with Skyrush's restraints is that I've gotten wildly different experiences each time I've ridden. Last time I rode it in the front row (non-wing) I felt absolutely nothing on my legs, but the first time I ever rode it (second-to-last row, wing seat) I was grimacing on the break run. I still love Skyrush overall but man I wish Hershey would invest a little in some new restraints.
I've never had a comfortable ride on Skyrush. I've ridden twice but I won't ride again, not only for the restraints but the darn thing gives me a headache.
@@BOI91 The airtime is way too aggressive on Skyrush for a t bar. They should fit it with the same restraints on Flying Aces at Ferrari World ive heard those are improved over Skyrush's lapbars.
Don’t you mean popular opinion. They may be bad for airtime but over here in the uk all of the rides with vest restraints are incredibly comfortable. Way better then the classic OTSRs.
Did You know that theres two versios of b&m vest restraints my homepark Liseberg sweden when they built valkyria they dident want to use the vest restraints but then b&m made a new vest restrain thats much more comfteble sorry for my english im swedish
Airtime Thrills Eh, I’m not sure you are, actually. There are a lot of people like me who think RMC restraints have a tendency to painfully staple, but my guess is that there are more people who think they’re just fine.
No wonder why they call it Thigh Crush instead of Skyrush. The more minimal the restraint the better the ride experience. Buzz bars for mild rides, loose lap bars for moderate rides, and comfortably snug but, loose enough for airtime lap bars for intense rides. For intense rides where torsos are prone to fall forward, a vest restraint with the vest straps feeling weightless and the lap bar being comfortably snug while allowing ample room for airtime and preventing your torso from falling forward, or just go with soft or semi-soft horse collar OTSRs.
i actually love and feel safe being stapled into restraints,it eases my anxiety. I get worried when people try to intentionally loosen their restraints by sitting forward i dont want anyone to fall out :(
Totally agree with how much restraints make or break a coaster. Steel Eel is only good cause I’m small and the lap bar is small but Wave Breaker and Freespins make me cringe before I ride it because of you know what
So glad I found this channel! Great voice, great content! After your Q&A and you talked about all the videos you had planned and would be coming later keep me excited for more!
I’m neutral on the B and M over the shoulder restraints. They’re fine on smoother rides like Talon but hurt like hell on something like Firebird. El Torro has fantastic restraints as long as you get room which I did the one and only time I got on it. I was playing with the seatbelt the whole way up debating how loose I wanted it. I was practically standing on some of those hills. I also like the restraints on Superman Ride of Steel. Not a fan of the grab handle restraints on Twisted Timbers. Too restrictive and they kinda hurt ur legs if u do get room. Oh and of course gotta love the clam shell restraints.
As someone on the heavier side, having restraints that don't pinch but are secure is so important. Seatbelt/lap belt combos have been a favorite of mine as I don't have to worry about an over the shoulder or vest binding my chest. This makes the combo so good because I can enjoy good airtime in coasters without loops while feeling secure but not like I'm squeezing in. Damn, now I'm missing the Jaguar at Knott's Berry. Moving after you've found a favorite coast can be rough...
Miss the beast at King's island having the buzz bars. It was easier to be comfortable with how rough it is giving you space to move around in your seat. But it's why it says "do not stand up" at the top of the lift hills because as kids,... We did. 🙃
Did you forget the God-awful headbanging cages of the dreaded Zamperla Volare? (Time Warp at Canada's Wonderland, Soarin' Eagle at Luna Park). That should be #1 worst on any list.
Just a heads up: the trains on the roller coaster at New York New York in Las Vegas are actually premier trains not Togo. Premier replaced the original TOGO ones in 2004.
@@DoswarePictures I've only done one of the Premier trains that were put on different rides, which is the 2x3 Premier wooden coaster trains on Bandit at Movie Park Germany and honestly they weren't that bad at all
The lapbars on the new S&S trains (Maxx force and steel curtain) are top tier. They lock at the station and can't get any tighter throughout the ride. Plus the shinguards give plenty of room so the trains feel super free and open.
Finally had my first RMC experience on TC at SFMM and it was AWFUL, my thighs were absolutely crushed. The way you described your experience on Skyrush was my EXACT experience on TC. I’m willing to give it one more go and try your calf bar trick.
The newer Intamin Blitz restraints are amazing, they don't staple you, and if they do, it kinda moves so you can still get airtime. They are extremely comfy and are very free! Also there isn't a bar between your legs, they are kinda like the mack rides, but than better and won't move during the ride, unless you push it down. (My experience with the trains of Taron at Phantasialand)
Honestly my take on restraints is that smooth or painful, I just like how fun and cool they are. The more creative the better. I like it when they're nice and secure as well, vests, shoulder harnesses. The freedom of a lap bar is nice, but shoulder restraints have a certain... something to them. Idk, roller coaster restraints are fun as heck.
I love the New Generation Intamin Lap Bar on their New multi launch coasters. I rode Taron roughly one year ago and instantly Fall in love with those comfortable restrains
I love the vest restraints on Thunderbird, and wing coasters like it. I don't find them to tighten while riding, but I do like the fact that they do sit close on you with a little give (being made of rubber). It makes it feel totally safe for the ride to keep you upside down for long periods of time, where many other restraints would feel unsafe when that happened.
I used to wonder why some people described coasters as painful that I thought were smooth and fine, but I think a lot of it is that I am a 5'11" man so I am basically the guy that most OTSRs are designed for. If I were any shorter my head would rattle around in the horsecollar every time there was a slightly janky transition.
First time I rode it. I got a ton of ejector airtime off the first hill. At the time I was maybe4'9" and weighed roughly 90lb. So the laobar on it's lowest setting didn't even come close. Man that coaster is sentimental to me
The B&M vests are a quandary for me, because they're super comfortable when used on a Flying coaster, but they SUCK on everything else. RMC lapbars are fine, but they really need to figure out how to make them a little easier to open. Staple story: SFNE., Superman (then Bizzaro) R.O #1 pushed my bar down nice and tight. Like... no room at all, but still comfortable. Then, R.O. #2 came by and literally JUMPED UP OFF THE GROUND before shoving down on my lapbar with his whole body weight. It was my one and only ride on that coaster, and I was in pain the whole time.
for some reason when he said just dont be an idiot and stand up during the ride, i laughed so hard, its the way he said it. great video and keep up the great work!!!
After riding and RMC raptor I really like the over the shoulder restraints, and for most people it does it's job very well, make a person feel safe while riding, less stress inducing.
I think that the B&M vest restraints are very comfortable although the only ride with them I’ve been on is Galactica at Alton towers which was the ride that the vest restraints were specifically designed for as it was the Original B&M flyer. Also the lap bars on Thirteen (also at Alton towers) are really good and provide a nice pop of air time during the drop track section
Awesome video, I prefer lap bars instead of over the shoulder restraints because you can get more freedom to move plus moe airtime, keep up the good work can't wait to see more videos!!!
I know it's not a roller coaster, but I LOVE the S&S Drop Tower restraints. The face that I can scoot forward when they check them, then once we lift up, I scoot back and have several inches of room. Then you get absolutely thrown upwards at the start of the drop. They are awesome.
I’d choose the traditional B&M over the shoulder restraints instead of the vest restraints. The over the shoulder restraints really fit rides like the classic B&M inverts, they also have a more nostalgic feel than the best restraints.
What? The maverick's restraints are comfortable as hell. How in the world are they bad at all? The B&M vests are also HANDS DOWN the best restraints. No discomfort at all and I LIKE feeling secured in the coaster. The hang time argument seems silly, I don't want to feel like I'm going to fall out.
My home park is Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and let me say….spot on with that SLC. Kong is a very rough ride that give you whiplash like nothing else, along with the headache. Needs to be torn down yesterday. As for RMCs, I’ve actually never ridden one because it’s a lap bar on a coaster that does inversions and that always made me nervous. I do know they’re extremely popular and I’m gonna conquer my fear when I visit Magic Mountain next month. Twisted Colossus, here I come. 😁
One time, I was riding Skyrocket at Kennywood. It was almost closing, so they were rushing. I had about a foot of room, and the operator didn't even push down the room. I was holding on for my life because of how strong the airtime was. Such an underrated ride.
I’ve only ridden coasters in Australia. But my stand out favourite would have to be the lap bars found on the Maurer Skyloop we have. “Buzzsaw” I found it fit really snug but also very free feeling.
One of the most painful over the shoulder restraints I've ridden is X Flight at six flags great america 😭 the ride itself was AMAZING, but once we pulled into the station, the hip portion of it was so tight that my hips were being crushed 💀 it's happened both times I've ridden
I hate the restraints on the Superman roller coaster in Darien Lake, New York, They’re too giving and they don’t secure properly. I’m a big Guy, but not fat, and I was holding the restraint down with my arms. I,very been riding Roller Coaster’s for 55 years and never had an issue or problem. But with the Superman ride, it’s only a matter of time before something awful happens, it a ride waiting for the right moment and bam, it’s going to hit the fan. I really enjoyed Your Video, Thanks
There's nothing wrong with the Intamin T-Bars but they definitely feel open and leave you exposed. It's only dangerous if you're bigger than the train was designed to handle, or if you are missing limbs. The coaster you mention actually did have an amputee fall out of it once, which is why parks have a rule about that
You should show this video to all the GP workers at PTC. They believe retrofitting coaster trains with ratcheting lap bar restraints will make the ride safer, but buzz bars are not even close to being dangerous! If only everybody was a coaster enthusiast...
I havent done any really bad restraints so far but my Favorites are: 1. New Intamin Blitz Restraint. These are Just insanely comfy. They don't come down that much during the ride unlike the very similar Mack restraints but the Ride op can easily staple you. But even if you're stapled they don't Hurt at all. 2. B&M Clamshells. From my experience its Impossible to get stapled with these. They are very comfy and provide great Airtime. Its also very easy to get some room 3. Mack Lapbars. Yes these come down easily but dont hurt at all. I Very much enjoyed them and If you hold them away they wont come down. 4. Intamin T-Bars. I think the T-Bars are a bit overrated. They feel Very free and are very small. But maybe thats their Problem. They start to hurt your knees because they apply all the pressure from the airtime on a small area on the knees unlike the Mack or Blitz Lapbars. I have only done them on Expedition GeForce and maybe they don't hurt as much on rides with less crazy Airtime 5. Millenium Flyer restraints. Just very comfy. They don't staple and its easy to get some room.
Comet at HersheyPark also has a seat belt along with the buzz bar. Not sure when they added the seatbelt, but it's been there as long as I can remember
One of my favorite restraints are Jack Rabbit's at Kennywood. A loose fitting seat belt with a fixed position bar in front that's more of a handle if anything.
My favorite is the single position lap belts on lakeside’s cyclone. Most are quite large and allow for a feeling of being completely unrestrained. No big airtime moments but still a solid ride.
I had a new ride op who tried real hard to staple me on Twisted Timbers. But I asked him and the more experienced one for room so it worked out and they didn’t try the second time I rode. But I’m totally gonna use your shin guard trick if I ever get on another RMC.
