Love that you like so much Nicholas Jaar work. I´m an admirer of her father, chilean artist Alfredo Jaar and was great to see almost 20 years after that his son is such a talent. He lived here till he was 11 and comes from time to time to play and connect to the roots, saw her a couple of times on Mutek Chile and another venues. Fun that he was inspired to play electronic music by another countryman, this time from both our lands, Villalobos. Great vid, cheers and take care!

Ry Cooder is not an underestimated artist in my home :-) From this record onwards RC has put out one great record after another. And then one has to consider his work with Buena Vista and Ali Farke Toure and Mambo Sinuedo. This self-titled record is quite old now but any of Ry#s recent release are sure to bring pleasure. Ry Cooder - a true Artist.

I have never been an Eagles fan but I decided to order Desperado and S/T after hearing the Paul Simon one step. The Eagles self titled is one of the most amazing sounding albums I have ever heard. I feel similar to you that it almost elevates the music and makes you hear it in a completely different light. I have played it for people who don’t care about audiophile recordings and they were absolutely floored. Great list.

Hi Michael an interesting list again but I might disagree with you on what is classed as an audiophile release. For me it is only by an audiophile label or mastered by an audiophile engineer- but just my view of course. I have buying audiophile records for 17 years now and for 2021 I have bought the lowest amount (49) than in any year since I started in 2005. The quality I agree is good but the quantity is not- We have more focus on One Steps, Box Sets etc and so less releases in total. Finally I would have the Jeff Beck and both Harry Nilsson MFSL titles in my list and I do agree with you about the Ry Cooder self titled - just stunning.

I am glad you like the Nicholas Jaar so much, Michael. I have a friend who has met him on a few occasions and apparently he is a really nice guy, in addition to being a great musician. Unfortunately my copy of the 45 RPM on clear vinyl has a terrible amount of surface noise - which somehow gets worse during all my favorite songs (funny how it always works out that way...). I think this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me on clear vinyl. I really wish they would retire that color - it almost always sounds noisy and doesn't even look good.

Yes, it happens to me… a great sounding record makes me listen carefully and like. I like it even more when it's a "normal" record at regular price. And I can't see a reason for the regular records to be bad. The last one that blows me away is Neil Young Carnegie Hall 1970… I didn't care about Neil Young… man, what a fantastic record. The other way around it's true… a crappy records turns me off, a shitty recording, a bad pressing turns me crazy with frustration.
@terrywho22
@terrywho22 2 года назад
"I like it even more when it's a 'normal' record at regular price." That's an interesting bit of psychology that I agree with. When it's replaceable, you don't worry as much about playing it all the time. Which is partly why I was so disappointed with the BN Classic Series release of Maiden Voyage (which has lackluster sound and a fair degree of surface noise - at least my copy does.) Such a great album (probably my favorite Hancock record), but come on, did I really need to drop $75 for the Music Matters pressing to get a good copy?
@JardinagemOrg
@JardinagemOrg 2 года назад
@@terrywho22 For me it's not that. I don't care if it's replaceable, all my records will outlive me and I have them to play, I don't care about resale value. I do take care of them thought. What I see is I have some amazing records at what I say it's a fair price. Michael talks highly of the classic series now… that's great value, great music, great records. With the others cost twice and more that? The "audiophile" records some times are as crap as the others and they're completely overpriced. A couple of years ago hu, oh, that's small batch, no scale, uh, oh, we're small… now there's scale, they're pressing in the thousands, and the prices are going up.

Great list Michael! I think VMP has released great sound quality records this year. Only in the Country series: Shotgun Willie and Grievous Angel come to mind. Bill Withers ’+’ justments seemed fantastic to me, also Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest. The AAA edition of My Bloody Valentine's Isn’t Anything is extraordinary. The recent reissue of Elvis Costello’s This Years Model is also excellent (cut by Ryan K Smith). Another very well done reissue is Spiritualized's Lazer Guided Melodies (double 45 rpm). Among the new records, my favorite is Promises by Floating Points with Pharoah Sanders (and the LSO). Wonderful music and my pressing is excellent (it was cut by Chris Bellman). Another new record that I really liked and that I think sounds great - although it certainly isn't "audiophile" - is Snail Mail's Valentine. We are already entering the field of “jazz”, but, for me, one of the albums with the best sound quality this year is Uneasy by Vijay Iyer. This year I was not very interested in One Steps (I mean, I like Eagles, Paul Simon, BS&T, but not enough to buy One Steps)... but the next years interest me a lot!

Auch „Space is only Noise“ 45 RPM ist wirklich demofähig.
