I think hand checking should be allowed, theres a difference between having your hand resting lightly on the other plays back and say pushing or holding the other player. It's getting to the point where if a defender even makes any slight contact it's a foul. It's so soft and much harder for defense to stop the offense. They're basically relying on them to mist shots now lol.

@Somm_RJ
@Somm_RJ 4 года назад
@@blinblinthing well, he kinda do. Guards thrive these days and MJ is a guard. Wider lanes without illegal defense and no more hand-checking. The game in the old times rely heavily on bigs, so that's not a surprise. If you have a dominating center back then, then he will get the ball almost everytime. In the earliest times, just like today, they also play without hand checking. Remember, hand-checking was introduced in the 70s and removed in the 2000s.

@Somm_RJ
@Somm_RJ 4 года назад
@@12savage68 I love how you conveniently ignored the other parts of my comments. The only post-player to win the MVP since the change is Nowitzki, which is only part-time post-player. It was an even spread of bigs and perimeter players in the scoring leaders before the change. Tony Parker led the league in points in the paint. Guard's scoring went up after the change. Unassisted field goals went up. Iso ball era. Team-scoring league-wide increased by 4 points. Detroit Pistons (2003-2004 Champion) went from legendary defensive team to elite defensive team after the rule changed. The reason why the 2 players you mentioned did not improve significantly is that they chose not to shoot more.

It would be a very bad rule change to make 3 pt attempts only earn 2 free throws on fouls. The reason it was created in the first place was because at the end of games if a team is down three, it prevents the team in the lead from gaining an advantage by intentionally fouling a shooter.

kobe and t mac got lucky cause the nba got rid of hand checking right after they allowed zone defense for real....kobe and t mac in 2004-2008 had great seasons cause of this when healthy....they looked like superstars even after the got older cause the league allowed them to shoot freely after they played in their primes against it...total b.s....it also opened a shorter player like d wade or curry or ai to still be able to dominate so ai did not age fast like he would of if hand checking was still allowed..his prime like many perimeter player's primes was extended due to this rule...which makes mj even more impressive .....if only zone defense was allowed when he played..thats really the only rule he exploited a little...everything else went against him in his era

@@TheIcemanthomas The former NBA Commissioner David Stern wants his league to have clean & fair games after that incident (i.e., he doesn't want Hooliganism in the NBA) so that hand checking should be forbid to use & he'd also increased the penalties on technical foul & even introduced the flagrant foul calls (in the case of FIBA, its called unsportsmanship foul). The Bad Boys Pistons in the 80s had introduced the hand checking method & it was a dirty move for some of the NBA Players like Larry Bird & Micheal Jordan.

its fluff man. NBA exploded because of social media and not because of rule changes. The social media gives fluff and excites people from a shallow standpoint. Nobody is playing D when the score is above 110. DPOY is still worth even? How are you an athlete when a grade 8 basketball player can do what you are best at in an NBA court (3 pointers). How is that more impressive than somebody dunking on your center and your power forward while being hacked by your shooting guard on his way up? how is a step back to create space more impressive than a lean back fadeway jumper. its the fluff of social media that helped the explosion of the NBA. @xStokelyx
@xStokelyx 4 года назад
They can have their arm on you (bent elbow, not stiff-arm) if you're posting up below the free throw circle (I think). However, they shouldn't be shoving you, but should be holding their position. I might as well add that this applies to rebounding as well. I see a lot of lazy players 'boxing out' by stiff-arming and shoving rather than getting in proper position with their feet and blocking with their bodies. One way to combat aggressive post defense like that is initiating contact once to get a feel for their positioning (unless they're already right up on you when receiving the ball), then spinning off them on the next initiation in anticipation of their 'push.'

@@xStokelyx Thanks Steven, Andy pointed out such a good point, let us watch new season of NBA to see if any one actually use elbow against post-up guys. I mean it is obviously that the NBA has become more guard/shooting centric, which is not a bad thing IMO. I am not tall but relatively strong as a guard, so I post up on almost every first possesion of a pick-up game or last possesion, totally catch them off guard. ;p

2:12 Since the basketball court was widened from 12 ft to 16 ft in 1964, it is now impossible to get a 100 points or more record in a single game for a player. Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points record had done that record just two years before it was widened its court & the only NBA superstar had almost beaten that record was Kobe Bryant on an 81 points record in 2006. If the basketball court is still 12 ft wide today, surely the Black Mamba would beat Wilt's record by probably 101 or 105 points, but due to the change of the width of basketball court in 1964, it won't happened anytime soon.

Eliminating illegal defense pertaining to zone defense was huge in probably the rule change the NBA want's you to forget about. When they changed this scoring fell off the the face of the earth and it definitely effected how the All-Time Scoring list could possibly look. You can even attribute this rule change to how the modern move offenses and three ball came into play in today's NBA. Eliminating hand checking and implementing the new 3 seconds illegal defense rules fail in comparison.

Reduced? Once possession didn't change, the shot clock kept counting down .

3 point line means less physical NBA and easier on Small Forwards and Guards to score. More easy layups as result of spacing out farther.

That’s because of Defensive 3 second, your not allowed to play in the paint unless your guarding a player I think it it dumb

Removing hand checking didn't improve popularity of nba, but rise of social networks and access to Internet did. Not in every country you can watch nba on tv, however once everyone got computers and Internet naturally popularity rose.

The only reason why the NBA change the rule of having 3 free throws when a player draws a foul while attempting a 3-point shot is because of what happen in the 1994 NBA Finals. In Game 3 of the 1994 Finals between New York and Houston, John Starks draws a foul while attempting a 3-pointer and was only rewarded just 2 free throws which led to the Rockets winning the game by just 4 points.
