I usually just assume when the creator weighs in, it's game over! They are kind of like the Alpha and the Omega on the topic.

The writer weighed in initially and said you’d have to ask the artist. Cates later said that he did not write it into the script that the Black Winter is to be visually introduced into the story. Then when further pressed for a yes or no answer, he said “no” speaking for himself, not for Tradd. Donny said it is art and not to be taken literally. Perception is different to any viewer of art. If you consider the entirety of the book, Tradd Moore does not senselessly doodle faces anywhere else so logically, it would make sense if someone perceived the face with similar attributes to the Black Winter to be the artist’s interpretation of the character whose name is in the same panel. Donny is not looking at this from a collector’s point of view or in the same terms that we are expecting to get an accurate answer on. If it is not the Black Winter, the next question would be “who is it or what does it represent?” because it’s not meaningless.

@@KeyCollectorComics I thought Tom made that pretty clear and was 100% transparent in the fact that collectors are simply interpreting this how they want. Maybe people are really upset that they have to pay a few more bucks for a book that they didn't buy at cover price?

@@KeyCollectorComics Your argument is not without merit and is very convincing. I would love to hear from Tradd Moore and like you said if that is indeed someone/something else then who is it? As collectors and speculators we can interpret art to represent what we believe we see but that is essentially what it is right now interpretation and speculation. Thank you Nick for your well thought out argument, it gives us all a lot to think about.

How the heck does ssb4 and thor 4 make the "top ten" but thor 5 doesnt? Thor 5 is already selling for $20 out the gate and gone to a 2nd printing. Thor 5 is the HOTTEST book this week.

Because ultimately it's their channel and they can pick whatever books they feel are fun to talk about. They aren't saying that these are the top 10 books in terms of sales, or in terms of some industry standard. They are 10 books that are indeed hot in the market, and they chose to talk about them.

"It's not up to the writer or artist" to determine which characters are in their books or not...?! It's up to the readers to interpret? LMAO!! That is known in the history field as 'historical revisionism'; it's ridiculous nonsensical statements such as that which HURT our industry. People watching this video should understand that.

Can't compare this to Major X. In one the artist acknowledged it was the character and apologized saying he meant no harm while the writer acknowledged it and went on a twitter rant saying he will never sign a copy of it. In this one, the creator is telling us that it is NOT him, but the APP doesn't care and still insists that it is. Ridiculous.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture, it hurts the industry when people make up their own rules to convince collectors to speculate on books the market will "not" recognize. It disincentives collectors and creates an overall untrustworthy industry image. A political analogy is "anarchy". There are rules to any collector industry and market, when you make up your own rules, then the factors that guide market forces disappear, and so does the trust in the market, and the resulting value of the collectable.

Hey Tom im am loving Sir Cates Thor run and the Black Winter in Silver Surfer #4 panel looks very similar to me to the panel in Thor. Have to say .. Just WOW.. This is the first time in almost 30 years that im glad i bought the Batman movie adaptation comic lol. Never would i have thought it would ever end up on the top 10 list! The avengers game is also coming to next gen consoles on launch so I'm looking forward to playing it on PS5. I'm a huge fan of the Tim Burton batman films so to see Keaton coming back I'll have to get that prestige batman book. Great top 10.

All of the awesome Batman Michael Keaton talk reminds me of the hilarious discussion between Zac Efron and Seth Rogan about who they considered the Batman voice was between Michael Keaton and Christian Bale in the movie "Neighbors"! I think the community is going decide what's up, regardless of what Cates states, his Thor run is the bomb, starting from Issue 1, that's why I put on my pull list. I’m going with the Hero and the Kid on this one. It literally has a picture and name of The Black Winter....in bold lettering. Seems similar to the Major X scenario In Spiderman / Deadpool #47 to me. Is Donny Cates the new Rob Liefeld? This isn’t the first time this has happened with this guy.

Loving Tom! Great show this week! And Russ I’m pretty sure Fatman Beyond predicted Keaton returning as the man in black himself Batman! Both in a 2017 episode and an episode last year specing him to be the mentor to Batman Beyond! Wouldn’t that be great! Keep it up guys! Can’t wait till the next bags and boards episode! 5 stars!
