I don't know if it's widespread etiquette or just my husband and I, but if we see another sloop heading to the same outpost as us one of us usually backs off. If the other sloop backs off we don't chase them later and engage them and they don't usually chase us. We enjoy the PVE aspect most and we can usually get a vibe from other players just wanting to do their own thing.

Solid list My one complaint is that you’ll get hate on your weapon combo no matter what you use. It isn’t just using sword or a sword/blunder combo Doublegunners receive hate often, usually from less experienced crews, which ultimately comes down to less experienced crews stereotyping doublegunners Sword users with any gun combo (especially blunder) will sometimes receive hate from doublegunners. Most doublegunners see the sword (and blunder) as a noob-friendly crutch and take dying to it as an insult ALSO The most important rule is to expect other crews to break all of the unspoken rules

Another rule: don't get mad at the player who runs from a fight. Retreat is a valid battle strategy. Just because you want to pvp doesn't mean that they want to or that they want a direct fight. Sometimes they may even be running just to screw with you because it's more fun to see you get mad that they are escaping the fight. Retreat also goes along with the battle idea of fighting the battle on your terms, not the enemy's. If it's not worth fighting for, just leave the area. If they are too good on basic ship to ship combat, find an alternate way to sink them. Never let your enemy dictate that you fight them on terms favorable to them.

Admittedly for the tall tale one, you won’t know until they tell you or you see their quest table. So the initial attack isn’t toxic. As for the reaper pjs, it’s because they’re always worn by reaper runners, a big ship that attacks small ships then scream when they lose, kraken / ashen ships that scream slurs.

Honestly, spawn killing any crew whether their bigger or smaller is toxic. Especially without the doing any damage to the ship. For instance, if you spawn kill me while fire bombing my ship I won't get mad and might say gg when I sink. But if your the type to sit at the spawn points so you can one buss me then your not really anything besides scum. Also one rule you missed, or that I think should be added is not attacking ships you find docked at a port, I'm not saying make every island a safe zone but I might as well wait. It just feels wrong to attack an anchored ship with no one on it. Another one would be not to attack people just fishing and chilling.

@jedicrafter1767
@jedicrafter1767 3 месяца назад
@@JavaSot I disagree with the load out, since imo you should either use a sniper or a pistol to work on your aim, and a blunderbuss or double barrel should be used for pve. Blunderbuss doubles as a pvp weapon but should not be used to just train aim. Throwing daggerr as far as I've seen hasn't quite hit the meta all that much, but it's still very good against pve. Sword is basically an all-in-one, except for kegs and gold skellies. In that case, you're screwed if you only have that. Overall, you'll be considered toxic for basically any part of the game, or a noob, because if you just try to do pve iin high seas, you'll be stolen from or tucked on, if you tuck you'll be called a coward or not a real pirate, if you fight, they'll run and call you a no-life, if you run you'll be called a coward, and no matter what loadout you use, you'll get hated on for it. The game is a bit toxic, but you get used to it after a whihle and generally it's just people malding, except for the running part. Also if you run with reapers (if you're new, don't use it. It's not worth it), then you deserve to be at the bottom of the ocean and frankly every ship on the server should team up to sink you no mattere whhat youo are because you shouldn't be running as the pvp faction.

They disagreed with every point here and said they go out of their way to make new players experience as miserable as possible, to get other players to quit, because this is their game and they get their kicks out of bullying others. I asked how does it show your skill to sink newly spawned ships with no crew or to spawn trap a solo slooper with multiple galleons? They don't want other players to enjoy their game or even play it. They argued that because they are not interested in Tall Tales then by stopping other players doing them, it will discourage Rare from wasting time on it in the future. Current names at the top of the list are: Minecraft Destroyer Le Phenix Black Pearl Enterprise NotBritish If you see your ship name here you need to be more aware that people like me will 100% swim the length of the map just for a screenshot. I'm not even joking, I was chasing the Black Pearl for 4 hours before I caught it. Never question what a player with max hunters' call decides to spend their time grinding next. I'm not even malevolent, sometimes I literally just steal peoples' ships in order to fill them with loot while the player is distracted. At one point a very confused crew left the coral fortress to find a chest of legends, and a chest of fortune on their ship. Why? I don't know, Felt like it. And that's the spirit of Sea of Thieves!

@@GloboCobra and that's what I call making your own fun. That's the kind of thinking this game is really about. It's not the PVP or the PVE but creating your own adventure and enjoying the player interactions. You never know what you'll find. I've stolen ships for various reasons. I've parked my ships on islands. I've tried to get to some of the highest points in various locations. I've even blown up islands and parked rowboats in taverns. What PVP only players and spawn campers miss is that someone may be doing something inherently stupid or funny. Killing someone who's doing something odd will often ruin the moment for both of you.

@jedicrafter1767 3 месяца назад
A few things that I disagree with, but starting out, my guess is that Reaper's pajamas came up along with running reapers since running reapers tend to have at least one player wearing the costume. Now, I'm going to disagree with fresh spawns killing because unless it's a larger ship, I see no issue with it. Sometimes you just need some supplies and there's no point making a crew get started with no supplies, and 9/10 times they've been on the island for 15 minutes by the time you get to them, meaning they should've had plenty of time to buy supplies And go around the island. With larger crews, I'd say it depends, but generally same thing. It's a bit more annoying because sometimes you're waiting for friends to join and this happens, in which case, tough luck, but otherwise people are going to do it. While pre season 11 I would fully agree that you shouldn't sink someone doing a tall tale, after it, I believe it's on the person doing it for getting sunk seeing as they should be able to do it in safer seas, now I haven't tried doing it myself because I can't be bothered to try and spend an hour while constantly switching to a guide for a small sum of 8,000 and no new commendations because I've already done them once, so maybe it is better on high seas or perhaps you can't get those commendations on safer seas. Unless that is the case, I see no problem with it. Spawn camping depends entirely on what you're doing, now if you're trying to sink them with said larger crew and you have people on your boat shooting holes in them, with the intention of letting them sink, that's fine. If you're simply spawn camping without any intention to sink, then yeah, you're in the wrong. This of course changes if the person is getting really mad in voice chat or something and they're screaming at you and swearing or slurring or whatever, because no matter how bad it makes you look, 9/10 people are solely going to spawn-camp them until they scuttle, even bucketing for them. It may not be right, but that's what we'll do and you're lying if it's happened to you and you didn't spawn camp them. Noob killing is fine imo and depends solely on what you feel like doing, just like above. It may not be fun because they're bad, but if they have voice chat, then the situation as stated above is most likely going to happen. No matter what, I do agree you should at least give some advice no matter what you choose to do, and even if you sink them give them advice. For new players, I will tell them to go to safer seas. While that's more of an insult when said to older players, for a new player it is genuine advice. You can both experience what the game has to offer without having to deal with the toxic side of the player-base, and on top of that safer seas still offers anything you could possibly need to train. While sure you may suck at hand to hand pvp, you should be perfectly capable to train your naval with things like ghost fleets to train yourself to act better under pressure and when you're getting hit a lot, as well as skelly fleets which can help you train your aim and get used to where to aim to sink a boat or where is most effective. Cursed cannonballs are more likely not used out of ettiquite but because when people do hourglass it's either as the last thing they do in a session and will have a decent number, or it's their first intention, meaning they'll have very few cursed cannonballs because they didn't go out looking for them. Either way, we'll use them sparingly just for any harder fights, rather than because we want to be nice. Sword only has a name: Sword lording, it's also used when someone swords you and you can't get away or they're just excessively good at using it Rolls on deck laughing is used by people who deserve to be at the bottom of the sea with their xbox gamepass subscription or playstation plus subscriptioon cancelled, their console perma-banned, or their steam account closed. They tend to be sweat lords who you were likely never going to win against, but if you can win against them, it's the best thing. People like that are one of the leading reasons that people think the game is toxic. Breaking alliances, Squiddy said it perfectly, it's going to happen. Sometimes people are going to betray it, and try to sink everyone. Often times when I go into alliances (and I have a crew) I will plan to sink them depending on what we're doing while also expecting them to try the same. When in an alliance never put you or your ship in a less than advantageous position when it can be stopped. Of course when the person is really chill or you take pity on them (maybe they're noobs or they're doing something similar to you) then we will stay in the alliance and not do anything to them. Stealing loot, again it's going to happen, and it's a core mechanic of the game. You should expect it to happen and prepare to either defend it or die trying, even if you don't want to fight. Some additional rules: * If you're not solo and you have loot, don't expect people to be happy if you run for hours. * If you're capable of fighting and have a good crew, don't be afraid to fight people, it's a core part of the game and is one of the best things when you sink someone * Do not go into high seas as an open crew galleon if you're just going to do tall tales. (Personal experience while I didn't have anyone to play with, I was disappointed because safer seas was out and there were only two of them. They could've just gone to a sloop at the very least.) * If people get Shrouded ghost, even though it's fake, Don't kill them, help kill the shark, I'm not sure how it gives the achievement, but if it can be shared, share it because it likely won't happen again for any of you for a long time * If it's a solo, do not spawn-camp. It's against the rules now, and by don't spawncamp, I mean don't bucket. if you're doing it to secure a sink, that's normal and by all means go ahead, but if you can help it, don't do it. * Don't make your own sloop open crew if you intend to do anything. People are going to mess you up whether it be by not voting for a voyage, putting youu in brig, firebombing the ship, wasting resources, etc. It's just not worth it * If you join open crew, at least try to help and if you don't want to, leave. Don't fully screw up someone else's voyage for no reason. * Leave fisherman alone, they are almost always the most chill players on the server, and don't have anything of value, only there to get their commendations, and unlike tall tales, will have to be done on high seas. * Not as much a guideline as it is a suggestion, if you have a mic, use it. Mics save lives but they also condemn them. No matter what happens, they'll lead to the most interesting interactions between players. If you give someone a certain amount of energy, the other person will likely reciprocate, whether they try to sink you or not. (I.e. if you're toxic to someone, they'll likely be toxic back, and if you're energetic and enthusiastic, they'll do the same) * Contrary to the last one, some people (namely the people in my guild) Seem to hate roleplayers, I'm not sure why, but they do. I've only found one crew within the last 2 years that was open mic roleplaying and while it may not have been the most interesting stuff, it was just a different experience. in that case, you may want to do roleplay more in a call, and not in the voice chat, but it's still up to you and I wouldn't mind finding more of them. * You WILL lose your stuff that you spent a bunch of time on. It doesn't mean that the game is bad, or that the person that sank you is bad, or that the game is dying, or that the person that sank you is the reason that the game is dying. It happens to everyone, whether they're new or old. It happens to noobs and it happens to pros, it happens to me and it will happen to you. If you see yourself getting excessively mad at the game for getting spawn-camped or killed, just leave. It's not as fun for the people attacking you, but at some point, if they're that much better than you and you can't kill them, there's no point giving them the satisfaction of continuing you kill you. Come back another day when you've calmed down and stop throwing your controller into a wall.

Have to disagree on the fisherman thing. I fish a lot (it can be done in safer seas 100%, although i use high seas) and for me there is nothing more valuable in the game than a crate full of fish. I always look out for the horizon, and if somebody attacks me i defend myself. Everybody should be able to defend themselfs, so i'm not giving you a pass just because you're fishing. On the other hand, i would not sink tall talers ( i believe you're absolutely allowed to ) because they truly don't have anything onboard, while fisherman has the fish. Agreed on most of the other parts of your comment btw.

For the fisherman thing I just wasn't sure if you could get done in safer seas and even still for most people, we aren't going to bother spending time sailing to a seapost just to get the most money out of it, and even then we aren't oging to waste time taking things out of a full crate, so I'll just leave the fisherman alone to do their thing. besides, fishing is in my opinion far more tedious if you're trying to get the commendations

Long story short, someone boarded Jack's ship and killed me before I could read all the books and get the final commendation I needed to unlock everything, and because of where it happened in the story, me dying and my ship sinking caused the game to think I left his ship and triggered the end scene so I couldn't go back with a checkpoint. One very devisive topic is the use of exploits to gain PvP advantages. And what is okay vs what is toxic and what some players consider cheating. Some players say all exploits are fair game no matter what, and that exploits are the devs fault, some players are picky about what exploits are toxic and are frowned upon, and some players label certain exploits as straight cheating that should get people banned for abusing. I'd definitely say the SoT exploit scene is a massive can of worms of unspoken rules in the community that I'm surprised wasn't touched on here. Even without explicitly mentioning any of the exploits or what they do, I think it's worth talking about.

@jedicrafter1767 3 месяца назад
Not quite sure what you're talking about, but if you're referring to resetting your ship in hourglass, that's not going to get you called a running reaper, because that's a common thing in pvp, if you're running around the map because you have loot and trying to not fight and wait for them to leave, then you're in the wrong because these people got supplies to fight and are just trying to work their way up, which you are now deterring them, depending on how long they sit there trying to chase you. If yoyu have hourglass up, you should be fighting. (apologies if I am misinterpreting what you're saying) If the person is stopping people from diving up on you/ you diving, then that's also not running reaper unless they are clearly intending to fight, whether they have emissary up or not. For the second one it's still not running reaper because you still intend to fight and I will commend you for actually using kegs, considering how dangerous and inconvienient they are to have on your ship, and even still to get on someone else's if they are too far from you.

Look, the way I see it, they have every right to sink you, if they think they can. If you sink them, then good for you, that's on them for going after you, not on you for sinking them. The thing is, is that it *is* still a pvp faction, whether you are doing hourglass or not, and people will always treat it as such. While many will try to leave you alone and keep their distance, other people who *do* want to fight, will come for you, and it is your fault if you sink or don't want to fight because it's the emissary you chose to use. Additionally, if you run, then people have every right to be annoyed at you for raising the pvp faction's emissary and not engaging in pvp. Yes, there's hourglass, but there's also safer seas. If you don't want to fight people and get mad at it when they do, whether you'rer minding your business or not, it's your fault if you're a reaper. Now, what you do as a reaper is up to you, but people should expect you to try and attack them, and be prepared, even if you don't. I'm not saying you *are* a coward or get mad at these things, i'm just saying how the majority of other people playingn the game will. At this point, if you don't want people to fight you then you should be using guild. Also, why would you be goingn to an outpost if you're reaper? Unless you're trying to get supplies or smth. Otherwise there was no point raising the flag

I got several opinions of these instances, if you're fishing, you should not kill them, but if they can't tell you're fishing for whatever reason, that's on you to make sure they know, and generally just talk to them calmly. If you're doing tall tales, go over rto safer seas, it'll just generally go smoother. If you were afk, they have no reason to know that and it's not their obligation to wait for you to come back beforre they sink you. As for their lack of communication it's likely because they're in a discord call and don't have a need to talk to you if they don't intend to talk, or if they aren't trolling. I personally only talk to people when I'm trolling or if I've joined an alliance, but generally it's only when I'm trying to sink people. On other hands there's also a decent chance it was people on xbox, who either A don't have a headset to talk with, or B are in a party which if you've never been in one, in order to talk in game while in a party, you have to hit the home button, go into the party and the tab button then switch back into the game, which is a waste of time when you're in pvp, as well as for whateever reason theh game will not let you hear your party when you're in game chat, and when you're in party you can't hear game chat.

Let me put it this way: A day 0 crew usually gets spared. A day 1 crew sometimes, but by far not always. I show them what is possible and whatnot by attacking them. I will make it quick and i wont be toxic to them. I am also not toxic regular players who are good sports. That being said, if you are toxic and i am far better than you, your boat will not sink for 30 minutes while ive taken all your supplies.

Even as reaper I sort of avoid fighting if I can But the moment I catch wind someone wants me dead, I'll turn around and fight them

Now, if you have friends in your crew who are arround the same level as you, shame on you. If you're solo slooping I do not believe you should be running reapers so I do not condone that, but at least you *might* fight, which is more than some people will do. As for catching wind, not sure what the relevance is because I personally hate catching wind while I'm trying to fight someone on a turn, because the shots go a bit crazy, but to each their ownn

I’m pretty good at playing SoT, but terrible at PvP! I’m deaf and wear bilateral cochlear implants, I also play with a controller because I’m all thumbs on a keyboard. You can bet your ass I’m gonna use whatever means necessary to take you down if you attack me first. Most of time I try to offer alliance’s, but it’s rare that anyone accepts. Thanks for the sword/blunder idea. 😎👍🏻

0:43 I remember spawning in and trying to put up my emissary but it said my boat was far away. My boat was gone and when I took a mermaid they were in a pvp fight on my ship

My only complaint with the community is reapers trying to sink you then going nuclear with the slurs when they rest with Davy Jones and i sail away with their stolen loot.

If you want to do tall tales do them in safer seas If you don't want to be spawncamped then just scuttle your ship If people don't like my weapon loadout that's their problem, not mine. I'm here to be a pirate, not a people pleaser. Apart from those 3 things I agree with these guidelines

What about launching fireworks to show youre friendly/dont want to fight? As a solo (who absolutely SUCKS at pvp) i usually use fireworks to show people that im either not interested in fighting or if im sailing by them that i mean no harm. I prefer simply trolling people over fighting/sinking them because at the end of the day both of us will get a good laugh out of it.

Frankly I agree with the trolling, but fireworks are similar to the white flare. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I know that when I'm trying to fight someone I'm chasing, I'll fire up the flarer so that they slow down and form an alliance, getting us close enough to go over. Though, I never go solo nowadays, it's just not worth fighting while solo to me.

I have always worn the reaper set and never been treated bad I think it's a small instance you have experienced and doesn't apply to everyone
@jedicrafter1767
@jedicrafter1767 3 месяца назад
It's not really like you get treated worse, it's just people call it that because it goes along with "running reapers" where running reapers tend to have people wearing the costume. It looks cool, but it's also the most overused costume in the game, which also leads to people not taking it seriously

At least you can recognize where they should be done. As long as you can get the commendations, you should do it on safer seas because people either won't know, or most likely won't care, so it's not worth wasting time

@@jedicrafter1767 Yeah I’m still new to the game so I’m trying to find out the best ways to do things and safer seas is 100% the move for tall tales since you don’t really get a lot of money from doing them either way.

Ah yes, a lot of these have already happened to me and my mate. Especially the "attacked during tall tales" and the "spawncamped by bigger ship" one. Worst experience was being called a "Na*i" because I spoke german with my mate on the open chat and being made monkey noises towards when the others killed us.
