The Olympic Games have always been home to the most popular athletic events in the world, but there are usually a few head-scratchers too. Read more: lifehac.kr/Zldntxr
@@samoptimus4228 in the game they neither use their "foot" nor do they use a "ball", and they call it American Football. Oh wait, American as term contradicts everything just like the American Afghan relations.
You only truly realize how hard it is when you watch a waterpolo force like Serbia or Hungary play a novice nation. Those other guys aren't able to get anywhere near their opponent's goal, let alone launch an attack.
@@SerbAtheist i've been on a trainingcamp to hungary.. those kids are living for waterpolo. They straight up went for a solo training session in between classes. Thinking about this makes me miss waterpolo so much
Yeah I wouldn’t really say it’s that weird either but more just pointless cuz we already have shotput and discus. Why do we need all these other throwing events when they’re all based on strength and some variation of a similar technique
@@diegoadams9652 Well hammer throwing goes back at least 500 years and it's a combination of strength, speed and technique. Why do we need any sports at all? It's a game that some people like to play and other people like to watch.
Here is the official list of weird sports: 5. Pole Vaulting or Steeplechase 4. Any of the shooting events 3. Dressage 2. Race walking 1. Artistic Swimming
yeah, but it's also a chance for us stuff all the most competitive competitions of the year in a 2 week period every 4 year...just barley enough to make people running around a circle and people cyaking competitively.
walking rules are not a foot must have contact with the ground at all times. Its "most look like a foot has contact at all times" without slowing the footage down
The rider gets a medal, the horse a matching ribbon. Even though only the rider fits onto the podium they are seen as one team/unit and get to go around the arena in a winners circuit (I think that's what it's called in english?) as part of the victory ceremony. I hope that answers your question! Unless this was a joke and it flew right past me
I fail to see how steeplechase, trampolining, water polo, slalom, the hammer throw and everything else listed are "weird" sports. Speed walking looks silly and it's absurd that equestrian dressage is an Olympic sport. The entire sport is literally how well you trained a horse. That's impressive, but it's not an athletic competition. But everything else listed is a very common sport. Water polo is one of the most popular sports in the world while the hammer throw and steeplechase are very basic human motions. I guess you had to fill out a full top 10 list.
Whoa have you ever ridden dressage?? It takes so much coordination, timing, balance, and feel. You are right its not a brute strength or cardio based activity but it requires finesse and an obscene amounts of body control.
@@robertbb1683 I think most of them require skill (tough to argue that water polo, for instance, requires no skill, or that *any* of the modern pentathlon events would be considered weird, though calling 19th-century cavalrymen's skills "modern" might be a bit of a stretch at this point).
2:47 probably just me but Handball is one of the major units in pe and everyone knows what it is, we even play it more than more popular sports like Soccer, Baseball, and Lacrosse
FYI Americans aren't bad at water polo. The women just won the gold. (Also I'm American and I don't consider water polo to be weird) I also wouldn't say that the Americans are bad at handball, they (we) literally just don't give two shits about it. That looks like a college sport to us. That's one level above table tennis and badminton, which we view as basement and BBQ backyard games respectively. I think the Americans would win a medal at handball if they cared about it whatsoever.
How is hand ball weird? You know what is wierd? A sport that is called "fOoTbALL" (American) , that requires players to use hands. But also foot occasionally. And also the ball is ¾ inch short of a foot (in dimension). On top of that they use armour like they found "oil" in the "field".
As an equestrian I can say yes, definitely. Although I don't know if it's the same for the other parts, but I guess so. The showjumping portion has been subject to many debates in the horse riding world as the rules of the modern pentathlon completely disregard the horses wellbeing, which should always be the top priority. Furthermore pentathletes apparently start very late with their horseriding practice, which shows in their lackluster horseriding skills overall. Many equestrians consider even the performances shown in Olympic events to be a disgrace to the horseriding world, it's that bad. Though pentathletes are no doubt good athletes and I don't doubt their abilities in the other 4 disciplines, they are no equestrians, not by a long shot. So yeah, if you're watching the modern pentathlon, please remember that it is in no way representative of showjumpers or any other equestrian sport.
They might be weird if you haven't seen them or have no interest in those events But the fact that they're in the Olympics and how many hours those people put into it translates into an everyday thing for many others
Equestrian Dressage takes so much more effort and attention than people think. It is extremely difficult so please don’t trash on sports that you might not even be able to do. This go’s for all of the sports not just dressage.
It's not horseracing, it's showjumping. Which is a pretty popular equestrian sport around the world. From the size of the hurdles it looks like this might be taken from the showjumping portion of eventing (also known as three day events), a category where the horse/rider teams compete in all three main equestrian categories over the course of 3 days. It's by far the most training intensive equestrian sport, though all of them require a lot of skill and training to master. I'm honestly surprised the people that made this list chose dressage riding as the "weirdest" of all the equestrian categories, but I suppose when you call it "Dancing Horses" it does sound rather odd haha
only race walking is weird. but i personally think water polo is silly in spite of its immense difficulty, while handball is lacking in technical & athletic complexity for the olympic level, in spite of its utter chaos, imo.
Most weirdest sport is basketball, baseball, softball, beach volleyball, 3x3 basketball, skateboarding because only a few countries play these sports but they are into Olympics. If USA doesn't play or master in any sport either that sport will be deleted from Olympic schedule or it won't be allowed to enter the games best example is cricket, it's world's second most popular sport only next to football
Handball is very popular in Egypt ,it is the second popular sport after Football (soccer) ,Egypt finished 4th in Tokyo 2020 ,we were very close to a medal and always has a place amongst the big 8 around the world ,also Egyptian synchronised team always has a place among the top 12around the world and in Olympics since the beginnibg if the 90's ,though it has a alot of hardships here , Ahmed elGendy won a silver medal in pentathlon in Tokyo 2020 ,it is our first in this difficult sport ,all if these mentioned sports had their world cups organised in Egypt at some point , many times actually ,they are just not popular in USA but very popular in other parts in the world ,specially handball.
I really want to do pentathalon now. Are there local leagues or is it just mostly rich people that aren't good enough for other sports? I guess you have to be pretty wealthy to have a horse, unless you can rent one?
Did this account get sold to someone else and now they're stretching to think of content? This video actually wasn't bad, I just think that you've got a bunch of people here that are interested in life hacks and technology. If you've spent a bunch of money in hopes of gaining it back in revenue then you should make videos tailored to that audience before everyone unsubscribes or stops clicking
Horse dressage is not horse dancing, horse dancing is a abusive practice and dressage is incredibly hard because we have to work with 100+ pound animals that don’t speak our language while trying to discreetly give difficult signals to the horse to do incredibly difficult movement’s while maintaining our poster as well as the horses and if you think that’s easy or weird there’s something wrong with you.
Haitian Refugee Oh ... Ok Baseball and “Football” fan... 😂 try it and you will see how “stupid” this is. RESPECT! Bet your nation doesn’t learn this word
Actually if you really think about it all Olympic level sport is a bit weird. Think about it a sport that started as fun thing to do in a person's free time taken to such a high level that athletes have to dedicate their life's to be the best. With only a very few achieving glory. ..... but having said that I love the Olympics watching athletes perform at such a high level is truly amazing
The weirdest thing in this video is the youtuber.. And in olympic in my opinion it should be basketball 3*3 , why half court basketball. And curling also.
Really? Now lets take a look at lifehacker offices."Oh look, the olympics are coming!","Oh,lets create a shitty video with a good title!","Sounds great!".....
