This!!!! I remember being in year 5 in uni and wearing Amouage Interlude Man on a daily basis. Thinking back now, that must have been so obnoxious to everyone in my class 😂 😂 People would make comments like they could smell me from the second floor and I’d take that as a compliment but it probably wasn’t 😅
I'm just getting into fragrance and am so scared of over spraying and just gassing people out, I want someone to only get a faint smell of my colonge at like 1 ft distance and I feel like anything projecting more than 3 feet is just obnoxious, but maybe I just need to get more confident with wearing colonge
6 sprays of elixir should be illegal 💀 I sprayed elixir once on my wrist in the store and got a headache the entire day. I washed it off with soap and went to bed. After two days i could still smell elixir on my pillow. That perfume is a weapon
@@user-pp9bl5gr1n I've always had my suspicions to be honest... some testers last longer on my skin and that's a fact, but anyone in the fragrance community seems to not believe this.
I still remember listening to an old video of Ash describing the day he wore some new fragrance and all the old ladies in the office were mad and tried to find the culprit. I think Ash said he ran to the restroom to try to wash it off!!
i was wearing Moschino toy boy and my girl said I smelled like cancer.... she had ovarian cancer when she was young and she said the smell reminded her of the hospital she was treated at,, she almost started crying.
Wife sprayed Mancera Red Tobacco 4 times. She works for the school district. Let's just say they had to get the kids out and air out the room after a kid yelled, "It smells like a barn in here!" She's learned her lesson. 😂
@phantomspaceman like I said, she learned her lesson. I had just purchased it and didn't know how strong it was. You should of smelled the car when she got home. 🤣🤣🤣
I wore Bentley for men intense one time, and someone said I smelled like barbecue chips. Since then, I haven't been able to shake the thought. But I still love the fragrance 😂
I’m still blown away and said this before but I just can’t believe someone with such a vast fragrance collection has put dents in so many different bottles
There's a time and a place for some fragrances. I just sprayed like 8 times of ysl edp to an outdoor bar at night time with around 65°f temperature and i had the most complements i ever had in one day with any other fragrance. And i have like 80+ in my collection
Some people just hate colognes. I had a friend and his wife who hated colognes. They even put restrictions on me when I stayed in their home. I was allowed 4 sprays.
4 sprays? The only frag I spray more than 3 times is nautica voyage when I go work out. You’re a lucky man in my opinion. I put on 2 sprays and everybody in my car will be gasping for air.
I have two examples: - CDG Blackpepper (2 sprays). My girlfriend visited and as I opened the door she caughtt a whiff of it and immediately said 'you can shower now, or I can go home'. - I wear Baccarat Rouge as a high school teacher, and several people have told the popular girl to wear less perfume. Little do they know that the popular girl they're smelling is actually the guy in the oxford shirt talking about history...
This was a great video Ash. It inspires me to think of a video that embraces fragrances that nobody has ever been offended by. First one that comes to my mind is Green Irish Tweed. I almost got assaulted by a random woman while I was wearing that scent.
I bought elixer and my first wear i hit it with 7 plus sprays ,I didn't know it was nuclear and the whole clinic said they smelled me in rooms I wasent even in.The elder lady made a statement to her friend loud enough for me to hear SOMEONE'S COLOGNE IS TO STRONG ,PS IT WAS DURING COVID AND EVERYONE HAD A MASK ON.
The tough thing to come to terms with is how fragrances can be greatly affected by the oils in our skin, body temp, how we naturally smell, etc. I have a couple that really smell unpleasant on dry down for me, even though I love the top notes :(
Gotta remember that the top notes are ONLY for personal use* It's the dry down that matters when wearing a fragrance in public... But then again, I've always thought that one should wear whatever pleases THEM.
I was wearing Armaf CDNIM eu de parfum at work and an older lady I worked with started coughing and saying it was too much. What’s worse is apparently some of it had rubbed off on the main phone so when she picked it up she made a scene about needing to do a deal clean to get rid of the scent.
Mine was probably when wearing Varvatos dark rebel ...I overheard a chick next to me tell her friend "someone's cologne stinks"..lol...couldn't care less tho cuz I love it and I wear frags for me
Growing up, I would always use my granddad's Wood Hue, and my mom HATED it! One day I came home from visiting him and she said "You're too young to smell so old, and I don't see no gray in your hair yet!" Needless to say, I went from Wood Hue to Polo Green and she still wasn't happy 🤣
Polo Green. I used to wear it for quite a few years in the 90’s. Wore it every day.Loved it. It was my signature scent(even though I’m ICU RN). Being nostalgic, I bought a bottle last year. I can’t stand it. It must be reformulated in a very bad way. It smells like a very old man. Even though I’m old (almost 70) I can’t take it. Sad😢😢😢
WOOD HUE! I haven't smelled that in forever... That was my uncle's signature. My grandfather wore L.T. Piver Cuir La Russie. I recently bought a newer formulation of the Piver... Certainly not what it used to be 😢
My kinda vid. 😄 I luv these stories. Even if they're made up. Cognitive dissonance in action. 🤪 Seriously though, acclimation is the key. Some people might not like a fragrance, but they absolutely do find comfort in the familiar. Wear it enough times in moderation and they'll get there. Slowly.
i have the sauvage elixir. 1 full spray and i am a bit worried. 2 sprays and i am ready to say sorry to people. 6 sprays? I would of fainted before i leave my home.
Since I am into fragrances, my biggest takeaway, is that most times it is acquired taste. Most people I show my favourite stuff dislike, or even hate it. One time I showed my buddy TF Black Orchid, which was the frag that really started me getting into collecting. I was all over that smell, while he reluctantly said it smells like a grandma. (He uses 1 million and MB Club Black) I showed my dad Amouage Interlude, and he instantly said that it is way too strong and headache inducing (He uses A&F Fierce). Amouage is basically a hit or miss with most people, I even got negative reactions for Reflection, which is a rather popular scent.
Have you tried Jubilation XXV? It's pretty understated and even after being over sprayed, it seems to be pleasant (or at least acceptable) to just about everyone.
5:29 I have the same experience with Dior Sauvage EDT . Can't shake it smelling like Gillette shaving gel. Only the DS scent is more in your face, even when the Gillette is on your face...
Friend of mine complained I smelt of a walking tree and tobacco farm(oud tobacco-montale) only from 2 sprays, naturally i did 5 next time I met with them
Wish I’d seen the original request. I could’ve shared about the time I wore a cologne that nearly got me a kicking. About 32-33 years ago, my Dad was clearing out some of his stuff and he gave me a bottle of Kouros. Back then, a 15-year-old lad didn’t know too much about scents and how many sprays was too many. A group of us were going out to a local roller disco that night and we were getting picked up by one of my mates’ older brothers. After a probable handful of sprays, I was ready to hit the town. Up pulls the older brother in his Citroen 2CV. With 3 of us in the back and 2 in the front, it wasn’t long before the fumes became pungently overpowering. Not even the ajar sunroof and 4 open windows could filter out the overruling funk and I was forcibly ejected. I never made it to the disco that night. I went home and scrubbed the scent off while cursing my Dad under my breath. A scent I’ll never wear again.
At my working place next to my table there is a woman always gossiping and one day she was complaining about my perfumes (that day i wear Sauvage elixir..i think like 3-4sprays) then after that i always wear that perfumes to the work so i don't need to listen for her Gossiping anymore lol
One of the people I manage at work sits next to me in the office. I carefully pick my scent of the day of a morning, have a great selection of office friendly juices that I’ve carefully collated. He rubs Axe/Lynx on his neck and wrists at the office. He has had more compliments than me. My colleagues are basic.
2:55 I had a coworker that would say my cologne gave him headaches, so the next day I didn't wear any, and he still complained about my cologne (that I wasn't wearing). He asked me how much I spray, I said "Yesterday 2, today 0". He called me a liar, and luckily someone else stepped in "smelled me" and then had my back. That old man continued to call me a liar, and he was miserable due to my "No Wear Cologne" cologne that I was apparently wearing.
I layer Kouros (5 sprays) with Megamare (2-3) just on Fridays at work. People will ovoid you, leave you alone and makes for a nice segue into the weekend 😂
Lol reminds me of the day I wore CDIM pure parfum to work. Had a 3hours physical meeting with my team then after went back to my work station and the lady sharing office space with me asked me if I broke my perfume bottle on my cloths and wore it to work I apologised and was scared to think of what my team went through in the last 3hours during our meeting🤣🤣🤣
MM Ocean Noir is one of my absolute favorites… top 3 no question. Wore it for thanksgiving and hugged my cousin hello and she says “why do you smell like axe body spray?” …Crushed, lol
I wore Lattafa Qaaed over the holidays at my cousin’s place and he complained that the living room smelled like burning incense that traumatized him when he went to church as a kid 😂 He proceeded to open the windows and spray room spray everywhere.
The farther away from common scents the more i find it can take time to appreciate (including myself). Most people like familiar so odd or niche can be a turn off until they smell it a few times.
To be fair, I find Sauvage and Sauvage Elixir smell so dissimilar that it's easily possible to like one and hate the other (especially not liking Sauvage and loving elixir, which is the case for me)
I am a chef so being in a hot environment is the norm. Im a big fan of Viktor and Rolfe Spicebomb extreme and similar fragrances but under the wrong situationn or circumstance it can be nauseating for even me to have on.. That being said my regular go to's are ADG profundo, Chanel Platinum, and Prada homme'
The only cologne I can over apply and people love it is Fierce by Abercrombie. A lot of people don’t want to admit that musky, super sweet or 80’s smelling (Savauge Elixir) fragrances are loved by a VERY small amount of people.
Savauge smells so common, I had smell perfumes similar to it so many times in the past, I don't get the hype with the popularity and when it was released, must be because of Jeremy Fragrance overhyping it.
I actually went to the hospital to visit a friend. It was my first time wearing Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense outside in the heat. While there were a few people in front of me asking information regarding room numbers, as soon as I got close the person at the information desk, she exclaimed in utter disgust, "What is that smell?!!!" As I got closer, she asked it again as though she was about to puke. Consequently, I have a nearly full bottle of D&G Light Blue Eau Intense just collecting dust in my bedroom now.
Either your body chemistry didn’t work well with that scent on that day, or the receptionist was rather an odious person, and I suspect it’s a bit of both. I’ve worn light blue intense, and it’s been a well liked scent, but those compliments were on warm nights. So try again, and maybe try wearing it on summer nights when the sun is down, and not in a healthcare setting lol.
😂 Yup... I can feel that. That's the consequences of wearing D&G Light Blue intense for men inside the building or in the room. You may got complain which sounds like you bring a lot of fishy seweed with you... I have 2 bottles of D&G Light Blue intense and 1 D&G swimming in Lipari and I don't know if i can finished it. 😑
You people dropping frags because some random people didn't like it are weird. If I like a frag even my wife won't make me drop it. If she doesn't like it I'll not wear it when we are together. That's it.
This is timely as just today I was flying from the UK to Spain on holiday and the stewardess warned all us passengers that someone on board has an allergy to fragrances!
About 4 years ago my cousin brought over his bottle of Lagerfeld the OG and I used to wear it in my late teens and early twenties but I smelled it and had to puke because it was so sickingly sweet and said nope never again.
Brings back memories of earlier this year, I was wearing Libre EDP went to my local shop was browsing and one of the cashiers walked near where I was and said something smelt like toilet water. Probably the only bad reaction I've had while wearing it.
I read a bunch of these comments the last time you posted about worst reactions. So many of them seem to be motivated by jealousy. It's legit if somebody criticizes a note, but when they put down the wearer, or make up a note that's nowhere close to the original, it's just hate. Like, "how dare you put in the effort. I'm going to humiliate you for trying to set yourself apart."
1:40 lol the video kind resonate to me when I rock Amouage Interlude in office when the outdoor temperature hits 98 degree Fahrenheit 😂 Smells fabulous and project like monster 😆
My coworker at the office got a bad allergic reaction, said that her throat was swelling up. Keep in mind I wasn’t wearing perfume on me but wearing a jacket where I had sprayed 4 times of CDNIM EDT…3 days ago…
I recently got told by a pregnant woman at work that she could smell my fragrance from outside on the car park while i was inside in the factory fairly big factory too 🤣 it was savauge parfum which i thought sits fairly close and don't push out like the edt yet apparently it's pushing out more than i thought,
I love me some scents. But I blind bought Bentley for men intense after watching many reviews and I took an L. I have “sophisticated” frags but BFMI smells like a Cuban from the 50’s. I don’t even know what that smells like but i would imagine it’s this.
I totally agree with Interlude Man and also it's clone Shaghaf Oud Abyadd. That oregano, oud & smoke( incense) combo does not work for me at all. I sold mine the second day I got it. I know some fragrances take time to understand and enjoy but I have big doubts that Interlude Man would have gotten that much better for my nose.
I was a polo wear in high school. When i was 18 my first date took me to a Nashville nightclub for my first time he had on joop i fell in love with it was only use to polo and old people old spice. I still love joop and polo green. The scent of both brings back memories like i was there again
for me, I could easily tell I was chocking my coworkers out wearing sauvage. Even with like 2 sprays, it was way too much in my office environment where we all sit like 4 ft from each other and often times working side by side on something. That's why I switched to Luna Rossa Carbon.
I wore one of my favorite niche colognes of all time: Followed by Kerosene to work but I made 2 mistakes 1: I sprayed 3 SPRAYS:wrists, neck, chest 2: I wore it on a hot day in the backroom where fans were blowing (this is a sweet frag) When I came in people said “You smell pancakes?😋 But when I started getting warmer it changed to “WHY DOES IT SMELL LIKE MAPLE SYRUP😡😷” which wouldn’t be bad except I sprayed 3 sprays of a sweet fragrance on a 90 degree day😭 People figured out it was me and admitted to being the “Maple Guy🍁”😄 Followed REALLY REALLY follows cause I left and the backroom smelled like intense breakfast for 5 hours, please don’t make my mistake guys😂
My worst experiences: 1. Perry Ellis by Perry Ellis For Men - smells like blood and bandages 2. Rakaan Swiss Arabian - smells like horrible bathroom cleaner 3. Narciso Rodriguez for Him - smells like funeral
Man Starry Night...I'm with that guy except I assaulted my own senses. I tried from a sample vial before bed and ended up having to take a shower cause it was keeping me up with its beastly push.
Y'all gotta remember the goofy way a lot of people are wired... Most folks will pass a pig farm on a drive through the country and roll the windows up as fast as possible... Yet the very same people could have two tons of colored mulch dumped in their flower beds and think it smells "fresh". See what I mean?
One day I wore Armaf club de suit Silage to work and my co worker said I smelt like for formaldehyde and embalming fluid that they use for dead people….. hey idc I love that stuff lol.
Azzaro Aqua Verde. I though it was a nice ozonic green fragrance that was safe for work. The last time I wore it several people said "What is that!? I don't know it smells like hairspray or something." 😢 That bottle is retired for the time being.
Bentley for men was such a disappointment, after hearing so many positive reviews, I bought it,went to a party sprayed it four times, it smelled weird incense mixed bug spray kinda smell. My friends at the party said I smell like a mosquito repellent 😂😂. Don’t ever buy bentley for men intense. Big fail👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
I think people in Poland have much bigger fragrance tolerance than in other countries, that being said there is one particular fragrance that apparently is so loud, it always gets attention. I took 2 or 3 sprays of 212 VIP Black Product (Red) edition and went to the city by walk. My brother was driving in the same direction so he stopped and took me. The moment I sit in the car he immediately opened the windows because apparently he couldn't breathe. And it was winter might I tell You. He said that if I'll overspray like that he won't give me a ride. Before that when I was studying I've entered the university building wearing 212. My colegues that were hanging around in the room located far away from the entrance said that they knew immediately that I've entered the school, cause they smelled me.
Remember when I was excited to get a bottle of D&G light blue forever. My wife got a close up whiff and said, Ew, “that stuff smells like B.O. get rid of that “!😢
One of my friends hated Charuto tobacco vanille (clone of tf tobacco vanille) and so my one other friend. This happened before I smell it for the first time. And they said it smells like 💩. I was so curious to get my nose on that clone. When the moment came, I really loved and was blown away by the smell. They hated me cuz they were thinking that I’d be on their side and carp on it lol.
I've never heard any complaints, but I prefer "boring" or safe fragrances. Once I grew out my beard, I wore a fragrance much less often, preferring instead to just have the scent of whatever beard oil and balm/butter I was using. The closest thing I'd ever had to a complaint was after using a tobacco scented product (Gun slinger from Live Bearded) and a state trooper asking me, "What am I smelling? I'm smelling something." So, not a complaint, but certainly could've been annoying if he didn't believe me and decided to try and go through my stuff or call a dog.
To be fair to the second guy, I've had a similar experience where after putting on a single, solitary spray, I climbed into bed next to my wife and she proceed to complain about the smell so much that I eventually had to literally head to sink and scrub it off (she also just hates the scent in general)... Only time I've ever had to this 😄
