I like how in ea sports nhl games no one has ever been a 99, including wayne gretzky, but then in the madden games, there are several guys every year ranked as 99.
Barzal's is only off by a couple points. Should be an 87 or 88. 86 is fine imo. Pelech is a great shutdown defenseman I heard, but he should only be in the low 80s because he doesn't have any offensive skill.
Officer Doofie Absolutely... especially based on last year- he goes into possibly worse than Jimmy Howard territory. He played for a much better team last season and barely did better. That’s only talking current stats, but that’s what this game should be. Dubnyk should probably have started this year as an 80 at best. I could see giving Jarry an 84-85 instead.
Brayden Point is criminally underrated at 88. Specifically because in EVERY skating category he’s behind Stamkos and Kucherov, despite being one of the fastest/best skaters in the league. He had an amazing season and was nothing short of incredible in the playoffs (even considered for the Conn Smythe)
@@i_am_blaziken1918 I’m a flyers fan, if you’ve watched the play, this dude literally has better edge work than McDavid, he’s actually insane and even beat McDavid at the skills como for speed
@@liammooney8780 I saw that. I don’t watch the Islanders though. I have seen Barzal in some games where Edmonton played them. I just don’t care enough about the Islanders to pay attention to that. Have a good day.
Pelech at a 78. Was such a big impact on the Isles defense, and when he was hurt, they struggled to produce the same fire that they have with Pelech in the lineup.
Some really bad ratings from my favorite team, the Islanders. Barzal 86: He is a star number for center. Noah Dobson 80: I really like Dobson I think he will be a star but he has not established himself in the nhl yet. Finally Adam Pelech 78: He is a top paring guy. Not a scorer but elite defensively.
In my opinion Quinn and Cale are two very similar and close players in skill, I think they both should be the same overall. Quinn could’ve easily taken the Calder this year too
@@ThasisKidSamurie What does that have to do with Makar though? Because Hughes plays on a worse team it means he should have won the Calder? Thats not how it works lol.
@@cloversurvival2003 It matters a little bit because they're already both pretty similar in production and the fact that Quinn did it with a worse team makes it more impressive
Speaking 100% facts. Especially about cramming ratings and players in the mid 80s. Most players are probably mid to upper 70s with top 6 forwards and top 4 defenseman being in the 80s, and then a few elite players being in the 90s. That would leave the mid to high 90s to players that are transcendent and on a franchise-changing level. Only a couple of those exist, per era.
That’s objectively false. Zib doesn’t create a lot of his own chances, and his g/gp was overinflated by that one 5 goal game, it’s not reflective of how he played throughout the rest of the season. 87 is fine for him. He’s good, he’s not THAT good. I’m just stating the facts here, not in any way an opinionated take
@@blap5630 you have no idea what you’re talking about hahaha 5 goals out of his 41 goals elevated lolol 75 points in 57 games speaking volume, plus he plays on the PK. Don’t see how he can not be a 90
@@terrencebobshea2300 because his isolated stats don’t justify it. Like I said before, he doesn’t create most of his chances. He’s a product of his linemates. Apparently YOU are the one who doesn’t know what he’s talking about
@@terrencebobshea2300 Because for most of his career he's been a solid 2nd liner at best. One great season that wasn't even a full season shouldn't lead to overreacting and assuming he's now going to have a career-high every season. That's exactly the kind of thinking that leads to looking back on previous games and wondering why guys are rated so ridiculously high: because they had a career year and became overrated for the next 2-3 seasons. They *should* be conservative, ESPECIALLY for a guy having a career year at 27.
The problem with a 99 overall is that it would mean he is the best in every single aspect of the game. For example, McDavid is sub 50% on faceoffs, so he does not deserve a 99 overall faceoff rating. This is why a 99 overall player makes no sense. If the rating system was like NBA 2k then maybe, but not in the way that EA does player ratings.
That’s not how it works though. You don’t need a 99 in everything to get a 99 overall rating. Illogical, but that’s how it works. Certain attributes are more heavily weighted than others towards the overall. I will say, that is unless they completely changed it this year since I don’t have the new game... but they haven’t changed how they do their rating system for like 25 years.
He has 176 goals and 384 points in 548 career games. He's 27 years old. I don't understand this belief that every player who has a career year is now an elite superstar who is among the top-10 players in the league. You're a Rangers fan, I get that you want him to be overrated, but like... just edit his ratings to make them the best case scenario. Realize that that's not how EA should approach ratings though. Look up Ray Ferraro's career; look up Jason Blake. Look up Todd Bertuzzi's career, or Simon Gagne. Brian Gionta. At the age of 26, Gionta scored 48 goals, 89 points. He never again got more than 29 goals or 60 points. 87 for Zibanejad is absolutely fair.
@@lmtman6199 Dude, I play franchise mode; it's nice to have ratings be accurate for that mode. If all you do is "play now", then sure, overrating players isn't nearly as big of a deal, I guess.
Damn Luca, research your hot takes next time cause Makar has played fewer games. Hughes has played 73 regular season games, Makar has played 57. Even if we include playoffs, Hughes has played 90 games, Makar has played 82
I remember taking the scores and adding them up and dividing them by how many and didn't get the right overall. I want to check the new one now to see if it's still like that. I started to notice it with lower rated players would be like in the 70s when they lit only had like two states at maybe 78 or something. So seemed impossible.
@@leafsfanforever2896 a) They benched him for the play-ins though. b) The reason doesn't matter imo. It's about the fact that there is not a big sample size of games played on an NHL level, that could warrant a very high rating. 86 is also still well above avg.
When they smoothed the curve of overalls was a terrible decision. Now the difference between 2nd line player and your 13th forward is like 3 overall when it should 5+
@@Canada24 I'm saying Olofsson is overrated. I'd probably want Kubalik at 82, although I wouldn't argue against 83. But Olofsson I'd have probably 81 or 82. Honestly, I wonder why you point out that Olofsson had less points without acknowledging that he had a better PPG. I get the argument that goals are a bit more indicative than assists because secondary assists can skew a point total, particularly in a small sample size... but... I'd probably have both guys as around 82 with top 9 - med potential. Maybe top 6 - low, because at their age it's not likely that they'll make any great strides. But it seems like it's better to have med than to "upgrade" to a higher ceiling but with low potential. I'd hate to add yet another variable to NHL because EA can barely handle all the shit they already have on their plate (let's be honest, "barely handle" is generous; they're dropping the ball left and right, especially in Be A GM mode), but I think it'd be interesting to have 2 potentials, ceiling and floor, so that a player could have an elite - low ceiling with a top 6 - med floor, but another guy could have elite - low ceiling but bottom 6 - low floor. As it stands, I have no idea how to value prospects. Does getting a guy with elite - low in the 7th really matter? Am I better off getting bottom 6 - med? Does elite - low mean he has something like a 5-10% chance of being elite, but over 50% chance of not even making the NHL? What does potential even mean? (Also, speaking of prospects and potential, and EA dropping the ball on Franchise mode... god, I hate not being able to edit in Franchise mode. EA moved Ovie to RW because he played ONE FUCKING SEASON at RW, yet we can't play a guy at RW for 10+ seasons and change it; he's still stuck listed as a C because he played C for 2 seasons back in juniors over a decade ago. And of course, Marvin Jones... from Poland. I get the argument for why we can only edit some things, but it's a dumb argument. Those American names from Hungary and Poland and Austria are really annoying, and ruins the game's immersion. And returning to the original point, I think being able to edit ratings *in franchise mode* would alleviate a lot of frustration when it comes to real player ratings. We'd be a lot more okay with wonky ratings/potentials if we could just start the game and tweak it as we go along, instead of having to spend fucking weeks fixing it before we can start our damn franchise.)
YAS!!!! Players need to be between 70-99 to be feasible players in a roster. MLB The Show is great with this. Too many players in EA NHL are floating around an 80-85 overall when really that just isn't the case.
If he played for a good team, I’d rate him about the same as I would now- 88 at best. The highest he’s ever been rated was like 91, and he’s definitely lost a step. He’s good still, but not tied for the best D in the league- it’s not even debate-able.
@@i_am_blaziken1918 I don’t think he needs either. I think Crosby should be a bit higher tho. And I know people say that McDavid is better than Crosby but how can a player that was drafted in 2015 and not even have any Stanley Cups be better than a veteran player that has been in the league for 15 years and has 3 Stanley Cups and is still a top 5 player in the NHL. So I think Crosby should be like a 97 and McDavid a 96
@@jacksubasic8260 bro Crosby is not nearly as good as he use to be, he doesn’t deserve to even be in the conversation with people like McDavid for best current player. You can’t look at Stanley Cup victories as a measure for individuals. Not everyone gets to play on a stacked penguins team, the Oilers kinda suck besides like 3 players.
For #7. To answer your question, Chara's Slapshot Power overall is a 91 which is the same as Martin Frk (who should've been #1 on that list. I'd give his Slapshot Power a 97 as there's 2 skaters in the KHL who have a harder recorded slapshot than him).
Matthews doesn't even have a top 10 wrist shot in the game, and if you compare his stats to Marner he barely has a better shot than Marner in the game. Anyone that watches the Leafs knows Marner's shooting stats should be maxed out at about 85 or less, but yet somehow he's on par with Matthews and has a better shot than Nylander.
@@KaleFGB definitely not, they literally have guys like Kane and Ovi higher. Also pasta and Eichel are both 91. Point is 89 petey is 89 Drai is 92. Their ratings are horrible. For centers the top 10 should be McDavid 95 Mackinnon 94 Crosby 93 Matthews 92 Point 91 Petey 91 Drai 91 Eichel 91 Malkin 90 ROR 90
@@justingray3101 Now look at it from a skill perspective and NOT a bias perspective. A 90 is a solid rating. I don’t think Matthews is as good as people make him seem
He’s had 2 major injuries. Every other time he gets hit hard he gets right back up. At least from the games I’ve seen. I watched a good portion of Edmonton’s games this season. I couldn’t watch much Pittsburgh or Vegas because TSN doesn’t let me watch them
I'm getting this in my feed 3 months later, but Phil Kessel has had 99.5mph slap shot in a skills competition. No idea what he's doing out in Arizona in their competitions, but at least with the Leafs he's lighting it up.
3 of the 10 have played for my beloved Boston Bruins : Charlie McAvoy (still here) Phil Kessel (rumored to be returning) Dougie Hamilton Zdeno Chara (not on the list but mentioned)
@@98littlemac Zibanejad was overrated every year of his career until now. This season is finally the first season his actual play is good enough to warrant the high rating he has.
Yeah I'm fine with McDavid staying 95 since they always have the legend cards and stuff with Mario at 97 etc. I think the real issue is they need to give bad players worse ratings. Make the worst players in the NHL like a 60. Make bad junior players like a 20.
Eichel is severely underrated, the fact he isn't even all that much slower than mcdavid and finishes right behind him in the speed challenge and he isn't even in the top 10 for speed. A lot of his other traits are underrated too
