NHL 14 is often mentioned besides some of the top hockey video games of all-time...but does it deserve to be? DZ & Corwin revisit the EA Sports classic in the latest edition of Game Capsule.
@@Savies NHL 20 isn't bad. But the majority of nhl games on the ps4 console generation were garbage. So people look back at 14 which had all the features and game modes people are still asking for today.
The servers are still up? If so, then I'm going back to playing EASHL on 14! Even the drop ins were infinitely more fun than this pond hockey CHEL crap they have now.
You got that right, loved the three star players came out on the ice. Loved the skill tree, by manually adding points where you wanted. But, in 14 as AI stick poking was insane which is not fixed even in 20.
Literally a masterpiece. Drop ins are such cancer now that you dont need to keep your grades up to unlock attributes. Im done supporting EA until GM connected and custom attributes come back.
One thing I wish they added was 1 maybe 2 outdoor stadiums. That was by far my favorite game mode on this game. EA Sports you can make nhl ones outdoor but not an nhl game outside wtf???
Pretty sure they had a winter classic mode in the game, bc that was the year the leafs and wings played in The Big House, and although I don’t think they had the rights to that arena, personally I don’t think it was a bad effort. But outdoor arenas wouldn’t have been a bad inclusion either tbh
This brought back some good memories. Honestly the biggest thing I miss from 14 (and 15 too) are some unreal intros revealing the logo. The lights coming on inside the arena really felt cool and I can’t think of anything similar in the recent chels.
This franchise is what goes wrong when you release a game every year that is expected to feel different enough to be worth a $60 price tag, I play a lot of chel for better or worse but I could write a book about how this game has turned into a perennial letdown for me, what if they charged a bit more for a game like 21-22 and only release a title every other year, give that skeleton crew of developers enough time to actually make something worthwhile and patch in updates to continue to improve on it during the life cycle of each game, idk something needs to be done though, this series would be dead if they had any legit competition
I would love to see you guys do an NHL 98 video - I feel that for my generation, the EA '98 line-up was such a classic set, particularly NHL '98 and FIFA Road to the World Cup '98. Definitely a key part of getting me into hockey video games was endless hours spent on NHL '98, and would love to see how you guys feel it does (or doesn't) hold up.
I used to play nhl 14 a lot it was a great game and amazing music in nhl 14 and your channel is amazing and I hope that you have a good time playing this good game hope that you guys are safe from COVID you have a great day and I hope that you have a good time playing nhl
We had two seasons of 11 people/teams for gm connected. It was awesome. Just had to make a timeframe for when the games needed to by played by and if they couldn’t then the guy who wasn’t able to just allowed his team to be played by the computer. Another thing the games started missing after ‘14 was you could bring your outside winger to set up below the inside winger for a face-off simply by holding L2 and then up on the stick or d pad before the faceoff was setup.
Great video series you fellas got going on. There was so much more to this game that didn’t get covered.. the lobbies in EASHL were superior to what they are now. It was also the first year that you could could take a squad in EASHL to practice mode, and .. create a play. That was the coolest, why did they not develop create a play going forward. I just hung up the virtual skates. Been playing EA from the beginning (minus 15😂). Keep up the good work
for me the ones i REALLY loved were 01 cause it was my first nhl game , then 07 i had on psp n ps2.. but 2010 with kaner on the cover still has a big place in my heart loved that one cause it was so much better then 08 which was the last one i had before that
Oh my god this was the game that got me into the series. Every game since then has been changing, and I’ve been changing with it, so I can’t necessarily say it’s bad, except for 16 and 18, but 14 is just so nostalgic.
i remember when i was 7 and got nhl 14 as my first hockey video game and the several years later, when i hooked back up my old ps3 and played it and seeing all of the old (and horrific) custom teams and players i made in the game when i was little.
I remember playing GM connected with a full league, but then again there was an entry fee and i took first :) well technically tied for first, the series was the final playoff series, it was tied 3-3 and both of us decided to split the pool Prize
NHL 14 had by far the best customization of any NHL game to date. I probably spent more time making goalie gear than I spent playing the game aha! I was playing peewee hockey when I had the game and I remember I spent a whole day creating my hockey team in the game. This game will forever be one of my favourites
@@KrisVic91 sorry for late response... but if you have a console to play it, i think 14 is monumental. i grind tf out of GM mode every now and then still.
I only started playing hockey bc my friend bought NHL 14 for his birthday and i played with him and fell in love with it. so to me its always gonna be up there
Goalie position in NHL 14 was actually playable and enjoyable. Human G brought a full 6 on 6 game, could thwart glitch goals and give goose eggs in eashl to clubs who relied on exploiting glitches.
06, 2004, 10, 11 and 14 will always be my top 5 hockey games. I always really liked 14 for the new additions like the enforcer (fuck 1st person fighting lmao), Live the Life, servers for it still being up and etc
NHL 11 and 12 were my favorites. That’s when all the good ol boys at school played. few of them brought little TVs into their lockers played during lunch/open hour hahahah good times
For me nhl14 will always be considered the best all time purely because it was my first nhl game and that same year was when I first started watching ice hockey!
Ah yes, the first NHL game I've played in my life. It's unfortunate the series can't achieve new highs. At least when NHL15 came out. I haven't played another since, although I'm trying to play some of the other older games. Also, it seems that EA's developers are trying to slowly climb up starting with NHL 16. I mean, really damn slow. I honestly want to play those games. I don't care what the people say about current NHL games. It's like one of those games where you only buy it once every few years. EA can benefit the franchise well by making a season update much like how Konami does with PES 2020 when it's updated to PES 2021.
I've been playing '14 since I realized I can get 60fps on emulator and could finally upgrade from '09 with roster mods (only other ones I've played are '02 back in the day and '17/'19 on the ps4 tbf), and I can say: yeah, it actually is that good!
why yes Z that is head of player safety George Parros fighting former blue jacket and current Assistant Development Coach & Team Ambassador for the blue jackets Jared Boll! 5:21
