Thank you Mike!! My first adult gift was to my mom. I was very gifted in taking stuff apart and fixing it. I fixed my first lamp when I was about 8, first toaster soon after. I love working on stuff. My mom had an old Singer machine that always had problems, and I got very good at keeping it going. After I left home, mom would often have to wait for me to visit, to get her machine running again. So one day I put a bright new, New Home machine on law-a-way at Meeks Sewing Center, in Corinth Mississippi. When I paid it off, I picked it up, and went to mom's. As hoped she wasn't home. I unloaded the new machine, and carried it in. I moved mom's old one into the spare bedroom, and into the closet. Then set the new one up, just like she had the old on, along with the thread, and the new dress she was making for my sister. Then I left. I waited down the road at a little store, and watched until she went by. I waited about a half hour, before going back. As I walked in mom had just made coffee, and she poured me a cup. We chatted a bit, then she said, she needed to finish hemming my sisters dress. She uncovered the machine, and set down, and got ready to sew. When she went to push the foot pedal, it wasn't there, she looked underneath, and couldn't find it, as she sit back up, she noticed, the new machine, she squealed, with delight, and said, Where did this come from. I tried to play dumb, but she knew!! That's still one of my most favorite memories in time!! I wish I could see that look on her face again!!! I miss you MOM!!!
Mike is tremendous at all times. But, Freddie on cam ain't bad either. Always glad to see the two of you together and see the unbreakable bond you two share. Great story as usual. Thanks for the video.
You are the modern day Paul Harvey (with a little Andy Rooney mixed in). My mom still has her 1980(?) microwave with the twist dial and push down open door button. You could fit a turkey in it. Works great. Merry Christmas!
Also, If I may.. thank you,for your previous answers to my many questions regarding how you and your team broadcast your shows… I learned a great deal!
The first gift I bought in my first real job was also a microwave oven for my mom for Christmas back in the 1980's. I think I paid over $400 dollars for it. Merry Christmas Mike!
my uncle worked for raytheon, I went to his cabin on seymour lake with cousin mark and aunt and uncle I told them passing the old man of the mountain on the vermont border that the year it is depicted on the quarter will fall that was 1970
I thought I detected a change in Freddy's expression when you said "without the dog". He looked rather pained. Great story, as usual. I'm looking forward to the new stories to come in January.
If you ever have a free moment, which I am sure is far and few btw, would be interested in learning more about your team. I am very impressed by how. Well produced these podcasts are aired… thank you in advance
Our mothers must be cut from the same cloth. She got her Amana Radar-range when I was young. Now in my 50's, she was forced to replace it only after smoke damage to the house from a grease fire in the kitchen (Radar-range not the cause). The restoration company was not allowed to return it due to potential damage. If not for the fire, I am positive that 93 year old lady would be turning it's only 2 dials and cooking away with it today! Thanks for the memory.
June 28, 2021 = since Facebook has cut "Return the Favor" - you should air "That's the way I heard it" here on RU-vid, and just advertise it on Facebook. I totally enjoy your presentations.
I took Home Economics in high school, a lady from the county brought in a microwave for us to try out, she brought hot dogs and buns too. It was brand new gadget. We blew up most of the hot dogs and burned the buns to smoking cinders. Good times . Extra scritches and licks to and from Freddy today, he was a good boy. Had missed him being around. Am I spelling his name right, with a Y instead of an IE? Hope so!
Mike I love your post but (you knew that was coming) could you please post them in HD instead of 240P. Hard to tell the difference between who's reading the story you or the dog. Haha.
Yay! Merry Christmas = ) (hiiii freddy) What a great story, nvm the miracles of invention, although surely can be a double edged sword sometimes, quite some time ago it had occurred to me, albeit not welcomely or happily, that all those old old horrible stories and mysteries of spontaneous combustion, yet everything is melted or burnt, but paper products are left untouched and undisturbed? Microwave @_@...there but for the Grace of God go I, love what you do for many years Mike = )
I thought it was going to be about the invention of the Peanut Butter Go--Goo Cluster ... I love those things! Haven't had one in years though, as owner Christmas my wife bought me a whole box and I gained 10lbs.
Btw. I sat on my hair brush driving home from Logan today….too funny. In such a rush to get HOME to RI I had tossed my bag on Driver’s seat ans of the SCOTS, MISTAKENLY…..
My dad gave my mom one of the original Amana RadarRanges back in the early '70s. He had to rewire the entire house because of it because we only had two 15 amp fuses. LOL
I like the dog! We have one that looks like yours that strayed in four years ago. He will not let us touch him, though we did trap him this year and we had him vaccinated. He has his own heated doghouse, and he comes running for meals, but he is a wild little dog. His photo is on this link: truebluesam.blogspot.com/2015/11/brave-dog.html
I usually listen to this via the podcast. Please, when you make decisions with scheduling, let us know. A short episode is fine, "hey, off until X, back on Y". That would be great.
Man, quit letting that dog like your mouth. You know where he licks himself? Hey, what the hell. He's your dog. Love your stuff Mike. And Merry Christmas.
What? Why no dog? Freddy is upstaging you that much and while I personally don't care for puppy kisses your face, I say to each their own. I would like the dog to stay, please.
