This is both a beautiful and heartsickening story. Thanks for my second listen. Was working in the hospital business office that fateful morning, in recovery from a first knee surgery. There was an empty waiting room with TV, an open doorway across the hall. I watched all of it as it happened, not ever forgotten, with commentary dependent on me for the regulars working there. The last thing we did before we left for the day was pray, the only fitting thing we could do. I witnessed for a reason.
A guy I used to work with, his wife worked on the 80 something floor of one of the towers. That day she she was going to a dentist appointment nearby before going into work. She rarely ever missed work. Everyone she worked with died that day except her.
Wow that took a turn. Yes all you can do is watch 😢. From Michigan I was yelling at the tv like it was a baseball game they’re going to fall ! Get out get out!! My heart still breaks when this comes up in a conversation. You gave me chills again Mike and thank you for telling Mikes story , I needed that.
This is probably the fourth or fifth time I’ve heard this story. It is amazing...that was no coincidence that his second grade buddy was there that day. I sure hope he’s learning/doing exactly what he was kept here to do ❤️. Thank you for sharing ♥️
Mike; May I just call you Mike? About 2/3rds through this story, it hit me where you were leading us. The eyes began to swell with tears, that lump in my throat came, and I was once again taken back to that day. I was in the South Eastern USA, working. My arms heavy with product to take to our packing room and cries of terror filled the air from all the corners of that small nursery. By the time I arrived in the packing room my fellow employees were gathered around an old, Sylvania B&W TV. Reception is bad but, there, through the heads gathered in front of the tube I could see the repeat of the event that rocked our world that morning. I seldom leave comment on You Tube features. This was worth a word of thanks to you. Some, I understand compare you to Paul Harvey but who better than Mike Rowe can convey a moment in time better, a person, at the time, achieving his own popularity. Thank You Mike.

Your soothing voice, your intentional inflections, and the glisten in your eye telling stories like no other. No matter if it's one you wrote, one who someone else wrote, or a letter from Mom. we all are on the same path to the same place being here in America. the coming storm is all of our emotions and thoughts on our countries needs. it's fun and scary for all of us everyone having they're own opinions. people can be hurt or safe in this day and age. watching and waiting is not protecting nor is hating and hurting. we can all come together and actually talk and share thoughts and experiences and I say again talk and share experiences. not imposing ideals on one another, but find a way to discuss the plans for our future country.
I know everyone knows where they were on the fateful morning. I was living my last day as a member of Royal Canadian Mounted Police and handing in my badge as a uniformed police officer of 24 years 3 months and 13 days in the province of British Columbia. I had actually put my papers in prior on July 5th and retired my uniform for the last time on July 31st. I had some accumulated leave of 6 weeks to use up before I officially hung up the gun belt for the last call of duty. So let's say I have a positive note to mark that sad day by pulling the pin from law enforcement that I was no longer having to answer to anymore police calls or hand out roadside coupons to folks that violated traffic statutes. I became a civilian just short of a quarter century of policing in five different jurisdictions throughout the whole province. September 11th 2001 was a good day to retire to pension. I love watching the facial expressions on the folks I meet when I tell them my last day as a Mountie or as some coin the old label of a Queens Cowboy.

How did You get through that sad story? 36 yrs ago when i turned 30 my dad said i was over the hill going down the other side. So what does it mean to be past senior prime. I think you are only as old as you feel. Some days better than others. Am glad your Friends are safe but at same time sorry for loss of his friends/coworkers
