Another thing to note; in that final area filled with corpses you can find the Nomadic Merchant's Set. The description states: "These merchants once thrived as the Great Caravan, but after being accused of heretical beliefs, their entire clan was rounded up and buried alive far underground. Then, they chanted a curse of despair, and summoned the flame of frenzy". All those corpses *are* merchants and the ones above ground are just the remnants of their tribe.

Sentry's Torch will reveal invisible enemies even when you have it on your back (2handing your main weapon), even though it doesn't give off any light when doing so.

Same. I pointedly did not watch any of his Elden Ring content, or indeed watch *anything* related to the game before playing it for myself. After getting my first ending, I am now learning how much I missed while playing through with a second character. (First time playing a FromSoft game as a sorcerer.)

You probably knew that rolling in poison or scarlet rot swamps can cover your character in filth and build up those status effects, but what you may not know is that rolling in water or standing out in the rain will actually clean it off you just like soap does.

You can also unequip and reequip weapons and armour to clean off blood, but (it worked like this in DS3, but I haven't really tested to see if it's the same in ER, although I'm pretty sure that it's safe to assume that it hasn't changed) only rain, puddles, lakes and soap will clean blood off of the body.

For the assassin boss that's completely invisible pay attention to the water because once he starts running at you it'll start splashing and that's how I was able to defeat him

No doubt he has that in store for us. The current issue is there's still a lot of the lore to unravel since the game was released so recently. There's still a lot of wiki pages that haven't been filled out because we've only barely scratched the surface. So far the only thing we know about the three fingers are what their motivations are.

The Sentry Torch is "bestowed with a special incantation that allows the bearer to see assassins *cloaked in veils."* Interestingly enough, the Black Knife armor set provides stealth buffs that make your footsteps completely silent, but only the chest piece... and if you alter that piece (which removes the veil), you also remove the stealth buff. So it's literally the JUST veil that provides their invisibility and stealth.

There is also a talisman, though I dont remember where I got it, that is a veil of which the effect is to increase your stealth.

@@DarkSerapheim Yeah, Concealing Veil, which has lore that corresponds with the Black Knife armor and has a different stealth effect (makes you effectively invisible when crouching at a distance). They make for a great combo.

i never would have thought to use "gravity" against flying enemies, but it makes such perfect logical sense. although, those fire barrel stormhawks can be killed easily, by a single fire arrow at the barrel they are sitting on. poisoning those nutsacks though, seems unintuitive, but the way you explain it makes sense. i myself never would have tried it because poison DoT is so slow and those things are pretty easy to kill already.

Little useful side note about Sentry and Beast-Repellent torches. You dont have to have it out in your off-hand. You can actually 2H your main weapon and still get the effect of the torch while its hanging on your back.

After i got the beast repellent torch, i went over to the nearest trex dog with it equipped and kept rolling around it and taunting it. It eventually stopped caring about my torch and started attacking me

Companion piece to the rosus' statues: You can find some spirit candlesticks sticking out interacting with them will spawn some sort of spirit you can follow that leads you to secrets and dungeons sometimes.

A tip you missed! You know those crystal darts that you have building up in your inventory? Throw them at any kind of stone machination, such as the cat statues (or even the little flying imps) and they’ll start attacking each other!

The last secret is by far the most sinister and involved lore. I walked through those doors without any research and found myself in a state and with an ending I was not for. It’s like Miyazaki knows how the human brain works and introduced an out just in case folks don’t like being tricked into an unresolvable ending. Excellent way to make players journey a very unique quest to get rid of the “infliction”.

When I did Stormveil I purposefully did it really slow to find as much as possible. Then I checked a 100% guide and realized, that I did not only miss the occiasional item but whole sections of the castle, including several graces. This game is so amazing.

equipped or learned (aka dragon hearts eaten)? because eyes go back to normal on additional playthroughs even if you're fully equipped with dragon communion skills so unless it was a bug for me you need to learn the skills again to get the eyes again

@@unclevivid9028 Exactly what makes this whole thing confusing. Land octopi are stupidly weak to poison, and as a brand new character only poison is likely to touch them. So when coupled with the land-squirt note, the instant connection becomes "this thing is weak to poison, land-squirts are weak to poison, this is therefore a landsquirt".

If you follow Hyetta's questline to the end, she will be in that room before the mysterious door. There she will give you a hint on how to open the door, which was how I was able to figure out how to open it. She says something along the lines of: "Go to the door ahead, after divesting yourself of your possessions. It will surely open..."

For the unseen assassin, I used Greyoll's Roar to debuff him, and even when he was invisible I could see the debuff aura floating around, and let's not forget the fact you can somewhat guess where it is when you're in water thanks to the splashing.

Similar to the land squirts, the silver tears with lightning are still weak to lightning so killing 1 in a large group causes a chain explosion too.

They explode in lightning when they die, regardless of how you kill them, so I had a chain reaction going on today that killed some ants chasing me as I tried to reach a doorway! I'm 62, just bought a Ps5 and Elden Ring. 2 weeks into the game im level 21.. I have never played before, never used a game controller...still learning, Elden Ring is infuriating, I hate losing my runes! I make my dude, roll when i want him to run! I love Torrent, could of wept when we both DIED..again, again and again! I'm loving it, yet hating it at the same time. These tips and pointers made on you tube are really helpful. @@chaotickreg7024 I'm already 60 hours In so I figured that's gotta be it.. from software really put their all into this game and it shows. The quality of locations is also tripping me out I expected most dungeons and caves to look the same. I haven't ran into a single copy paste cave. So far every small crack has ended being a badass trek into the darkness. The Flame effects of actually having to use a torch was quite the small touch that makes a small mechanic stand out so much.

@@guillermolopez1377 I've noticed like 6 walls that looked like auto generated dead ends, but that's nothing compared to the hundreds of secrets I've found poking around in every corner. The game rewards you for checking thoroughly and sometimes it feels deliberate. Like you stumble past a prison and the game says "Hey we know you've checked every single cell you've walked past since you left Undead Asylum so we hid some cool little lore stuff in a few of them for you. Can you find the shank and journal that one of them was hiding?"

@@chrisparker9672 illusory wall and floor yes. The volcano wall is not illusory (and therefore is not dissipated), it’s just a bug/non intended wall you can crumble. It doesn’t bring you to any new place, nor open any new path (unlike illusory walls/floors)

I got the frenzied flame ending my 2nd play through by accident, I thought that picking the other choice at the end of Millicent quest line would still get you the needle. It didn't and I was stuck throwing the world into chaos, this time I was able to quell the frenzied flame. The ending cinematic was really cool tho.

Vyke seems to have had a similar situation as us but he refused to allow his Maiden to burn, so he followed Shabriris adviced and tried to claim the Flame of Frenzy, I'm guessing he failed though since they do say that he wasn't their lord after all.

As for your story however, it's your attempt as one of the many tarnished trying to get to the Elden Ring. The details are yours to write, it's your adventure afterall.

There is actually an even easier way to deal with the keg hawk: fire arrows. If you explode the kegs below them, they just die instantly. This can then be used to farm their feathers.

@@tylersagendorf1453 If you don't mind using a shield, you can run up to them while blocking, block their first attack then guard counter, then you can just spam fast attack to finish them. Trick with this is not to back off, if you don't have enough reach to land the guard counter you won't be able to stagger lock them.

@@briskzilla9439 Spoiler, obviously: Behind the door are the 3 fingers, aka Lord of Frenzy. A cutscene will play during which they embrace you and scorch your body, giving you permanent scars and dark yellow madness eyes (can be toggled off at cosmetic mirror in Lia's room at Roundtable Hold). This will prompt Melina to leave the player permanently. Upon beating the final boss and not using Miquella's needle to remove the frenzy curse, you are locked out of choosing an ending. Instead, where you'd get to choose the endings it only says "become Lord of Frenzy", arguably the darkest and most desolate ending in the game.

Fun fact. I remember when I was scouring through Stormveil that I had hit one of the hawks with a Radahn Spear Greatarrow, and because the arrows emit gravity magic when they're fired they have the same effect as gravity spells. Kinda neat how FromSoft thinks of all of these little details.

@@AMBATUKAM11111 You accept the frenzy before setting the tree on fire,Melina will tell you she is disappointed and goes to sesrch for another tarnished. You beat the giant,set the tree on fire thus she gets to live. Now since you accepted the frenzy you are stuck with that ending unless you reverse it in Farum Azula's secret dragon boss room. In order tk reverse the flame youd need Miquella's needle which you get after finishing Milicents quest and beating Malenia. You use the needle as soon as the boss fight in Azula starts and the flame is reversed thus giving you the option to use any other ending. Unfortunately you dont see Melina again

I was so disappointed when I tried a gravity attack against Malenia’s flying wombo combo and it didn’t work. I thought it would have been an awesome lore based solution for the worst attack in the game to be stopped by Radahn’s magic.

I found that I pretty well had the Beast Repellent Torch equipped in my offhand slot a lot of the time so I could stroll by all the beast type enemies and they would just leave me be. It was very helpful at lower levels and even further on in the game

The same applies to all the magic constructs with bodies of stone. The imps as well will frenzy on each other after a few dart hits. The shattershard arrows do not seem to have the same effect.

I accidentally found the three fingers on my first play through and was so disappointed by being locked out of the other endings. At first I was distraught but it ended in me going on a quest to cure the condition which ended up being so rewarding I’m glad it happened. It almost becomes a secondary main plot

Glad that you take ir so well, i found the three fingers as literally the last thing that i was wanting to do before using the forge of Giants, bc i thought that the forge Will start the final sequence of the game, then, went to see the three fingers knowing that It will change the ending, but when Melina abandoned me and i had to use the forge without her, i completely freaked out thinking that i Will die and not see the final sequence/Bosses, like an equivalent to choose die from gherman lol

Literally same thing happened to me, it made me feel better by telling myself it was part of my story. That I was too adventurous and didn’t listen to the warnings and went on a whole journey to redeem and “cure” myself of my mistake. Kinda corny, but it was so damn rewarding using that needle.

@@AidsTiger Yeah I don't get why she's viewed as the one good ending. She literally caused this insanity in the first place by getting Merika's favorite child "killed." Fair enough. The Golden Order isn't necessarily moral. Order without any chaos stifles growth. But it's heavily implied she gets her loyal followers killed once she no longer needs them. And forgoing responsibility isn't a moral outcome. I think the standard ending is ironically the best ending for the regular people and species. You could rule as benign. Perfect order and definitely Perfect chaos would be worse.

As for the note to miquella's needle, there is an easier cheese to break the shack: stand next to it, quit out of the game and load back in. the spawning animation of the player deals a lot of environmental damage and breaks most breakable environmental objects, so that the player doesnt get stuck in them. sadly doesnt work for the statues that requires trolls/bears to break :(

I spent over 100 hours on my first playthrough which is nuts for a game like this. I spent no time farming anything, it was all exploration and fighting strong enemies. Im also kind of proud to have found out about everything from this video, except the poison and the torch for the assassins by myself. This game is awesome and I want more games like it.

In regards to the Sentry Torch, if you use it to reveal the hidden assassins in the Ordina Liturgical Town evergael, you can put it away afterwards and you'll still be able to see the assassins. So if you want to use a shield or a second weapon against them, that's possible. This might work with the other hidden assassins, but the assassins in Ordina are the only ones I have tested it on.

This part was so frustrating for me even with the torch, because in this area specifically, taking out the torch causes these massive lag/stuttering waves on a short cycle (on base ps4). I suspect it must have something to do with its particles or animation in tandem with the heavy snowfall in the area

I love how this game is just... logical. Fighting an enemy made of crystal, and your sword isn't doing much damage? Just hit it with a club or hammer - logically it's easier to shatter a crystal with a hammer than a knife. Monster with a backpack of bombs? Light it on fire and watch them explode. Undead enemies? Heal them. Big, armoured enemies? Knock them over and hit the soft spot. I'm so used to games where it's just "hit until it dies" that this kinda stuff blows my mind. This is the first time I've really played a Souls game, and it's amazing. Thanks for the video, Vaati!

if you're an Alchemist like me, and need your ovaries from land octopi. You can kill them quickly and nerf their damage and range by slicing off their long front tentacles. You can cut both of their arms off allowing for an easy kill. It also does massive damage allowing for quick farming. so cool

You are in for a ride, with time your amazement will only continue to grow as you notice that every little detail is purposefull, every mechanic is connected to the lore. Nothing is random and the ammount of details no matter how small all come together in harmony to form the bulk of the story. This games are a work of art and I'm happy more people are putting in the efford to discover just how magnificent they are. It's quite a bit more straight-forward than the standard Souls lore, but it's not a clear-cut story. There are things that happen and you know who did it, but then you don't know HOW exactly they did WHAT, how far back it was, what the implications are for the future etc. It's still very much a "community-driven" lore, in the sense that a lot of the things can be interpreted in different ways and it's up to the people to decide what something might mean.

@@Hekk. there's literally a ton of lore here linking the merchants together as an actual tribe who collectively use and are related to frenzy magics and who collectively suffered some great tragedy wherein most of their tribe ended up as unburied corpses in an underground cavern. No, this isn't that 30 minute in-depth explanation video he referenced, but it is akin to a box of puzzle pieces with many of the parts already put together in advance. The fact you personally can't be arsed to put any of this together yourself in no way means there isn't enough here to do so.

Hey Vaati. Great video as usual. You might have missed that there is an item (actually a set of armor) that you can get in the large "tower" leading from the Catherdral of the Forsaken to the Frenzied Flame Proscription. It's hidden under a tent like structure that I couldn't break myself, but if you bait the enemy to use one of their spells on it it will break to reveal the Nomadic Merchant's armor set. Just like the note about the needle except on a higher floor, and the light from the item is harder to see. They have some *very* interesting lore tied to them, that deepens (completely confirms) the connection between the merchants and the Flame of Frenzy.

There are several helmets ("Nox Mirrorhelmet", "Iji's Mirrorhelmet") said to "ward off the intervention of the Greater Will and its vassal Fingers". This makes them kinda related to "Miquella's Needle". Maybe wearing one of these can influence ingame events or one of the endings aswell?

I don't think wearing one can prevent you getting the hidden bad ending, as you have to get naked to open that door shown in this video. And once you have the Frenzy Flame's marking, only Miquella's Needle can remove the mark. The mirror helmets likely add some sort of status resistance. To tie an ending to an obscure piece of armour, would be unheard of in a FromSoft game.
